  1. No.My point is that the budget was no surprise to him.He knew he had to cut wages,he knew there was little money to spend. He knew everything....yet he still took the job.Meaning that he thought that he was good enough.

He wasnt ( as we all know ) we needed someone like Moyes who ran Everton on a shoestring.

So, the bottom line is Lambert is not good enough for the Villa job,we needed someone like Martinez, Moyes.Lambert should realise this and walk away and give us a chance to find a manager that CAN work under those condidions.

A manager like Moyes would never have come though???

    Martinez turned us down????

As for the myth he ran Everton on a shoestring :D

...as for the backing himself part, every manager, infact every man should have the courage and belief to back himself in whatever job he does. Yet, you use it as a stick to beat him with.

I wasn't putting words into anybody's mouth or generalising.

What a lot of people seem to miss is that there simply isn't any significant money to spend right now. As somebody said earlier, it's a case of gambling on very cheap young players again (and Lambert has received a lot of flak for those kind of signings in the past) or signing older experienced players on free transfers.

What is Lambert supposed to do with so little to spend? If anyone's to blame it's Lerner for seemingly not even allowing moderate investment.

This is the problem, people are now acting like the 'young and hungry' strategy itself was intrinsically flawed rather than Lambert's botched execution of it. Also I don't need to keep being reminded how little money we have. I know this. All the more reason not to spend the modest resources we have on poor players only being signed because of how old they are. I still fail to see what will be achieved by this.

The problem is that while the spending restrictions seem to have taken a turn for the worse, Lambert was always hamstrung by how much he could spend on wages. Given the restrictions he's been under I don't think he's "botched" anything.

Hang on a minute. When you apply for a job, dont you ask what the wages are ? dont you find out what the conditions of employment is ? or do you just sign up anyway ? My point is that Lambert must have known what the conditions were before he took the job.So dont say he was hamstrung by $$ conditions ...He knew that AND STILL took the job,so he is either very ignorant or thought he was better than he really is>

Whether you know about the conditions or not prior to taking the job it wouldn't stop you being hamstrung by them regardless. You should be thankful he did take the job, another manager would have took us down the way this club has been run from above the past 5 years

cambiasso on his way to west ham so rule him out

Lol think we saw that coming, teams around us have done some real good business so far this summer. smh

...but even if we did sign him, there would be outcry for signing a has been, if we had signed a up and coming youngster, there would be outcry for not signing experience, proven players.

As for the clubs around doing great business, care to share them?

Who have Stoke, Sunderland, Leicester, Burnley, Palace, QPR, Swansea and WBA signed that we are gutted about? Even Hull.

    Bardsley,Jutkiewicz, Snodgrass and Pantilmon.

    Yeah, no thanks.

  4. I thought Lambert had infered that the club had 'moved on' and that Bent was unlikely to ever play for Villa again. If he does then a dose of 'egg on face' for Lambert.

    Would you rather the alternative?

A pig headed egotistical manager, who would never admit to being wrong and would stick by his decisions no matter what?

I think Bent is finished tbh, but if Lambert can swallow his pride, get him motivated and get him playing again then that is good management

  5. He was a punt, he performed well towards the end of that season and was a boost when we desperately needed it. Stoke away and Sunderland at home, he was excellent, providing cover for our fullbacks and really letting them hurt teams. He played as big a part as anybody in that 6-1.

Why the hate, you all sound so bitter.

I wish him well, I am sure he is just as dissapointed as everybody in how last season went.

  6. People only come up with the 'he made some good buys' argument to justify Lambo's continued reign as our manager so it seems? A good scout could also do this. When we get a new owner I would be amazed\disappointed if they did not replace Lambert who is quite obviously in over his head.

    What a ridiculous arguement.

Nobody is trying to justify his reign, they are pointing out that when he has spent over a derisory £3m he has bought well.

Also, in what world would you trust a scout to buy a player?

  7.

Khedira to Arsenal . 2 quality signings from Wenger. Got to be serious title challengers this season. Their midfield options have to be the best in the world. Quantity of Quality.

    I don't agree, personally.

They're still reliant upon Giroud as their number 9, which will be their downfall this year. To win the league, you need to be able to rotate a number of top quality goalscorers, which they cannot do at the moment. They'll need atleast 2 more £20/£30m signings to trouble the top of the table in my opinion (CB and CF).

Are you saying Sanogo isn't top quality?

He makes Pele look lime Heskey man!

  8. Managers don't run the academy, managers come and go but the philsophy and practices at the academt must always remain.

...and why close an academy that is paying for itself, in players produced and sold to clubs up and down the country?

..and how is it Lambert's fault the academy isn't producing players, he has been here two years, so he is supposed to take 17 years old in two years and turn them into wonderkids?

What are you even moaning about?

    Do you even know yourself?

...and if it was so simple to produce such talented kids everyone would be doing it.

When was the last time Birmingham, WBA, Wolves brought through top players?

When was the last time the biggest club in the country brought through a top player from their academy?

  9. ...and then when they don't perform slate Lambert for chucking the kids in at the deep end, and when we buy experienced players to play along side them and help moaning about abandoning his philsophy.Any stick to beat him with.

Lambert hasn't performed badly, he has rebuilt an entire side, while drastically cutting costs, and kept us in the division, It is a thankless task, but I and I hope many fans can see the restraints he has worked under.

He has been well worth the money, there are plenty of other managers who would have took us down under these circumstances.

  10. I wouldn't be playing Westwood.

If there is one player who needs upgrading it is him, the crab.

KI is ten times the player, doesn't hide and passes with intent and purpose.

  11.

Southampton IMO have gone from being a good example to a poor one of how to run a club. This summer they have lost so far their manager, their main striker, their captain and creative force, their best young player and look set to lose their best defender in Lovren and their main holding midfielder in Schederlein. They have replaced them so far with an inferior manager and a couple of risky unknowns from the Dutch league. I doubt whether they will be top ten next year.

Personally I don't want a manager who makes obvious mistakes realises 1 or 2 years later and then makes a 180 degree turn around to the complete polar opposite. I understand that everyone makes mistakes but Lambert has that anti-midas touch i.e. everything he touches turns to shite.

I also think he has not made best use of our academy players which has been a big mistake.

Lambert also seems to have created his own cheaper bomb squad.

In what way has Lambert realised he has made a mistake and has changed the remit?

It is the owner who decides such things with the budgets provided.

Lambert clearly had to reduce the wage bill, whilst buying cheap players on cheap money. He did this and as a result we know have the money to go and add experience to the side.

Why bother with Lambert then Lerner could just pick the team each week and save spending £2m a year on the whining Scots git!

I am not even going to justify this with an argument.

    Pathetic.

  13. Vlaar is not going anywhere, I have heard nothing from Lambert, nothing from Lerner and nothing from Vlaar that would even suggest such a thing.

People need to man up, and strap on a pair.It is embarrassing.

I feel sorry for your girlfriends.

"OMG she is gonna leave me, are you gonna leave me, please don't leave me."

  14. With Guzan, Senderos, Vlaar, Hutton, Richardson, Cole, and Bent potentially in the line up it's an interesting turn around for Lambert. It will be a bit closer to what he had at Norwich which was largely a success. There's quality somewhere in those players if he can dig deep and tap into it.

There is no quality in Senderos, not a smidgen.

I think Richardson and Cole will surpirse quite a few people.

  15. shirt sales I guess.. Anything they make with a Manchester Utd symbol on it and they will get a proportion of it.

It's still sort of risky, in the way that to sell the number of "items" to get 750 million quids worth of stuff is large, and dependant on sucess I guess.

Still, another huge kick in the bollocks for other 16 teams in the league.

May as well pack up and go home.  out of the 92 league teams, only 87 are capable of any continued success.

    We need an Arab, ASAP.

It is too late now, the financial "fair play" is set in stone. What chance does anyone ever have again.

    Rich keep getting richer...
