He is a solid LB in the same way Bouma was solid if not spectacular.
If you really think this guy is dreadful then you haven't watched him play much.
-
Surely this is a joke, he’d be a woeful signing if it happens.
Hasn’t a clue how to defend or pass the ball. Was awful for Liverpool last season.
FFS Lambert this is even more bizarre than Senderos
I imagine this would be your stock response to any signing we made tbfh.

Can see a McLeish like defensive shape of
Okore Vlaar Senderos Baker Clark
Hutton Cissokho
Westwood Delph
Benteke
Way too attacking for a Mcleish side.

Left backs and strikers. Buy loads of them. That will work.
Just forget everything that's in between.
Why oh Why can't we just sign a decent DM.
Villa are not an attractive club to come to if you're a decent player, unless we're going to pay top wages, which we won't which leads back to us being an unattractive choice for a decent player....
I don't think that's true, we're a very attractive club with a great history, brilliant fans, a good reputation and amazing facilities, plus we sell to bigger clubs, however sometimes clubs need managers who can sell all that as well as sell themselves and I think we've struggled in that department, plus those managers need to be brave in the market and spot/beg to sign gems.
Look at Klopp, Ibra 'joked' with him to sign him. It might be Dortmund but it was the managers (and probably fans) influence. It's an example, I'm not comparing Dort to Villa.
In the past we've paid players very handsomely but we're struggled to get a few really good ones in at a time, I do wonder how much management has to do with that, sometimes you just have to be brave and show more interest than makes you look 'in charge'.
Maybe we should sign you up?
We will be signing Messi and Ronaldo on £20k a week deals in no time.

Yep, also see : AndI Weimann.
Or, perhaps, there was trouble on the training ground. Nothing major, mind. Nothing that would mean those in charge would lose their jobs....
Or, perhaps, our manager has realised he is out of his depth dealing with players that actually need to be coached and so is looking for experienced players that can "do a job" with minimal input.
Just perhaps.
None of that would explain why Andi, a professional athlete, is blowing out of his arse after 15 minutes.

He scored the winning penalty against us IIRC.
Tremendously gifted player, just couldn't seem to put it all together. -
I stated last night saints mate from portsmouth said saints were after virgilvan dijk supporters members who he is related too reckons saints will table 3.5m for vlaar in next few days. He also said all saints money will be reinvested and that will be there bargaining tool for vlaar to sign. And someone mentioned vlaar will be offered captains armband.
He talks almost as much shit as some of the posters on here.

Didn't look prem standard last yr..if true is that Lamberts fourth lb? And yet still no dm.
Didn't look title challenging standard.
Would be the best LB we have had since Bouma.

as an observation....has there ever, in the history of the club, been a more boring summer? I've had a quiet week at work this week so was hoping to read about all those tenuous links to Algerian wingers etc. but there's been nothing, absolutely nothing...and it's not exactly like there's anything going on at other clubs of note either.
Maybe I'm just growing out of all this stuff.
The first two windows under O'Leary, my God, they were truly depressing summers.
Didn't turned out too bad though...
-
Lost his focus last summer
Sadly it does look rather that way.
I wonder if THIS had anything to do with it.
Aston Villa defender Matthew Lowton has agreed a new four-year deal to keep him at Villa Park until 2017.Yep, also see : AndI Weimann.

Lambert has had along time now to address the midfield problem
He has failed the same can be said for the left back problem
I think he has clearly tried but anything above £30k a week seems beyond his budget. It makes it tough. I think if he was backed to get half the players he's tried to sign we'd be a decent team. Just really disappointing, the sooner new owners come in the better (pointing out the bleeding obvious I know).
Pity our manager has elected to offer a sizable chunk of that to Joe Cole to keep our physio company for the year!
Have you seen Joe Cole's contract then?

Im not quite so sure what the fuss is about this lad so far, Im unsure why the whole fanbase seem to think hes the answer - the times ive seen him in a villa shirt (albeit very limited) and certainly apparent in the First friendly and last night at Walsall, he looked shaky to me........ doesnt get touch tight, missed his headers and hes all shoulders n shinpads....... I personally think were pinning our hopes on him and he doesnt look the part to me............... Hopefully, its down to rustiness after a bad injury........... i just dont share the optimism that most do......... in my opinion of course
Pretty much my opinion last night , got beaten a couple of times and had to be saved by Hutton
I cosign that opinion too.
Looked like he was asleep at Gronningens 4th goal. But yes whatever, pre season, but I too am not seeing Okore as our defensive saviour. Would like to be proven wrong though, but the hype here is a bit insane, imho.
I don't think many people are expecting him to be our saviour, he will be a massive improvement on Clark and Baker. Massive.

I cannot believe the shit I have read on this thread the last couple of days.
Nothing else to moan at again.

Another forgettable player unfortunately.
I will never forget that goal or the 6-1.

In a way it's frustrating...
In another way, why the **** should we give £50,000 to a player who has accomplished **** all?
£50,000 a week! Just think about how much money that is...
**** this guy, let him rot on the Swansea bench.
**** footballers..
Who said he wanted £50,000?
Calm down,.
Czechlad said we should give him anything up to £50,000.. my mistake!
Either way, he's average, but we do need a CAM at the moment, so I guess that's why people are annoyed.
Maybe he is average, I think he is slightly above that, but he would have been a step up on what we have, so am quite dissapointed.

Javi Garcia earns close to £80,000. We are handing out contracts worth £20k right now.
1. He would never come here.
2. City, along with every other club are a business, they need to recoup as much of that as they can and I guarantee the teams interested will be offering a lot more than what we can right now.

Please do. There's nothing wrong with mentioning a 'cheeky' bid, loan or transfer. If you don't ask, you don't get.
You don't get anyway. In a market where Borini is worth £14m and Rodwell is going for £10m, nobody is going to be giving players away for **** all.
I saw earlier that Derby have got a Real Madrid player on loan. Now, I don't have a clue whether he's the next big flop to come from Spain, or whether he is a promising player that could have maybe made an impression at a Lower Prem team, but Derby wouldn't have got that loan if they didn't ask.
A Madrid youth player, not established internationals on £60k-£80k a week like mentioned before.
Just because he plays for RM doesn't mean he is anything special either, so I see no big deal in Derby signing him.
The players mentioned here were Milner, Moses etc... ,they will not be coming here, we will not pay those wages and City and Chelsea are not going to loan them to us for nothing, no matter how cheeky the bid is.
People need to get into the real **** world.
-
I'd let him go, but include a buyback clause much like Arsenal has with Vela.
Would be very surprised if he makes if back to the PL, but good luck to him.
-
10 mil for Rodwell ....
Madness. What has Rodwell done in his career?
Picked up a shit ton of money, like most average British 'youngsters'
-
they prob got something from the Mutch transfer as well
Yeah, regret.
