I don't know but I thought that's why we hired super scout Mackenzie to find these bargains
No that I don’t doubt the team, but I’m a little disappointed with suggestions of Axel, JWP and Cantwell given Mackenzie’s ‘reputation’. I suppose it’s dependent on his remit. Perhaps finding the pieces of a jigsaw hiding in plain sight, no bedding in period needed, is a more difficult task.
Alternatively, the press couldn’t have clue.

This now becomes a ‘Smith’ team.
He built around JG because of his extreme talent. It was expedient to do so.
He has slowly moulded a squad to the way to which he wants to play. Which, I actually thing JG style was counter to. He needs to use the criticism of his record without JG as fuel.
Smith’s biggest value is his player development. The one thing I am sure of, JG was not a £100 million player before Smith arrived.
He can be and probably is, given his relaxed demeanour in preseason camp, proud of that.

I live in Manchester and I agree with him.

I’d be very surprised if he went out on loan. He’s establishing himself as a first team squad member. He’s surpassed the loan development stage. For me, this is what youth development looks like. Seems like a steady eddy developer. I think he’ll improve again this season.

This preseason has been a mess.

Looks like he and Villa favoured the package offered by Ipswich. Rather than no offers from the Championship. Villa are doing this right. Rather minutes, Paul Cook management and Ipswich having more possession, giving Louie more opportunities to show his skills.

1 hour earlier than club announcement is nothing. Transfer Sagas said Ings to Villa gathering pace 3 hours before this guy tweeted. He said McNeil main target recently and Joachim Andersen to Villa a month ago. Absolute spoofer he is
99% is attention seeking bs. Even if someone has a piece on one transfer it’s gets lost in the noise.

No need for this. Scored almost 25 league goals for us, bought for peanuts. He’s literally turning up for work at the moment. It’s pre season. Of course he’ll move on.
He’s not wrong though. Nice left peg, but slow of mind and body. Build like a pencil. Needs shipping out. No room for sentiment in football. Ta ra

In the grand scheme of the PL any odds that put you in the bottom 8-10 makes you amongst the favourites - we are 9-1 (7-1 on many sites) and Leeds are 12-1! So kind of true I’m afraid. People thinking we are going to pushing for Europe are kidding themselves. We are in another ‘transition’ phase - this year we’ve lost JG and will therefore finish bottom half. As a result we will then lose; Mings, Martinez, Watkins, Buendia but make a nice profit and have to hope the kids keep us up in 2-3 years time before resetting and trying again…
Well, it’s a good job football is played on grass and not in your mind.

For the few people that a fawning over his statement. Compare it to John Terry’s parting statement to us.

But we don’t have a current player on the stand…
Muhaha the post replying about Mings going up there.
I’ll fix it to current player or citeh player, given Citehs love for a Villa captain.

We'll need another backup CB because Axel is made of glass
A backup to the backup. I don’t get the Axel transfer. For us and him.

Honestly I'd love to see the Club just cut him out as an interim measure before something more permanent goes up.
It’ll be gone before the start of the season. I’m pretty sure of that. Purslow will make sure of that.

I’d be inclined to let him go if a decent offer came in for him and then replace him with a player that can do offensive/defensive duties better.
If we’re not going the DCM route someone like Mahmoud Dahoud, Manuel Locatelli or Aurelian Tchouameni that can do both jobs equally well and be that deep lying playmaker.
Yeah I agree. I like Luiz and still think he can develop greatly. But my general principle is I don’t want 5/6 experienced ‘seniors’ vying for 3 spots in CM. Not leaving any opportunities for Academy graduates. They need to be blooded, otherwise it’s all for nought.
All those players recommended would be excellent but I would want to move a current ‘senior’ to balance. Upgrade the seniors whilst still leaving ops for academy grads.

@Davkaus moved to here mate so not to go OT, think the mods have had a hard time of it recently
Yeah I had this realisation with him at the Euros. I was frothing at the mouth with the apparent idiocy and disrespect of Southgate’s decision not to start him. I could not enjoy England. I would go into work and rant and rave. Had to have a chat with myself after the group stages. What are you thinking kind of moment.
I would epitomise my time supporting him at the club as ‘turning a blind eye’. Turning a blind eye to his drunken binges, bad choices, careless driving, diving, sulking and general idiocy.

I think we’ll see a few outgoings sanctioned now - with the likes of Wesley and Hourihane moved on.
Davies will get a reprieve as he’s injured (again)
If the right offers arise, I imagine we’d listen to bids for El Ghazi and Luiz (for some reason)
I also think we’ll still bring in at least two players.
definitely a centre half and maybe an additional versatile midfielder.
I get this vibe too. Idk, for instance if they could turn a profit on him.

Tbh, I imagine one thing the hierarchy have learned pretty sharpish is to not spend a lot of money on decorating the ground to celebrate an individual member of staff. Reckon Smith would be here in a month's time if England came calling?
It’s crazy isn’t it. How an event can reframe your thinking. 4 weeks ago I would have said no. But now, well.
I’m happy though of the modular nature of our coaching set up. Developing an infrastructure whereby everyone is replaceable.

Yeah this is where my support is maturing to. A love for the colours, spirit, community, history, Villa Park and playing legends and moments that have become so in the fullness of time.

JWP would be perfect for me. Or someone of that ilk with tenacity, energy and ball retention. But I would like the signing to upgrade a ‘senior’ (Naka, Luiz, McGinn, Sanson). I like a tight squad. I think Hourihane needs to be move on for him and us. We also need space to allow Ramsey and Chukwuemeka to develop.
