  1. Shocking season, we are 15 points behind Newcastle, 7 behind Everton and 6 behind Norwich and Swansea. Terrible season, transitional or not. We've been in a transition for 2 years. With the games we got coming up, those teams above us are gonna pull further away.

Strange that you should mention "transitional"

I watched a Browns game last season and one of their fans held up a banner that said something like " rebuilding since 1951 "

  2. We're running out of games where we can realistically pick up results

Unless the team roll up their collective sleeves and wake up to the situation then we could be in deep trouble

Before the team roll up their sleeves, take into consideration that Gabby is now a winger and Hesky started against one of the fastest teams in the Premier League.

  3. I am confused ?!

It was the 91st minute,we were losing 3-0 and I sat there smiling and thinking to myself, I cant wait to see the reaction of the Arsenal players when The Chosen One makes a couple of "calculated substitutions " and we end up winning 3-4.

It worked last week ,but nothing happened this week ? so what is going on ? I cant figure it out at all.

  4. Its just that, like I said its my game so I dont want steam telling me what to do with MY GAME.I mean if they give me say 20% of what I paid for it then they are intitled to ASK me to do this or that.

Put it this way.If I borrow a book from you, then you can tell me to look after it,cause its your book.

But if I buy my owne book then you have no right to tell me what to do with it. Agree ?

Can you see where I am comming from or not ?

  5. I'll think about that one,I tried Kennedy Approach on the old C64 and that game was very good but I did try an airline manager game once ( cant think of the name ) but I did'nt like it.You had to do the whole lot, build hangers, runways, maintenance sheds etc etc etc

  6. Can anyone recomend some good management games ?

Sports management or war.Older games or new ones.

I have Football Manager 2009,2010,2011 and 2012 and I also have Making History,Axis and Allies and the Civilization games.

  7. I find this game really hard. I've played it for a week or so but I've completely lost interest because I keep getting thumped.

I know I'm not much good, but I do feel this is aimed more at the hardcore players than the casual ones. I quite likes the games of old where you could quite quickly click through the game and be successful, seems this one wants you to tweek it's nips every virtual day.

I'm disappointed, don't think I'll buy FM again.

I found trying to manage Villa too hard as all the teams in the Pl are good,so I tried managing a team in Norway but found that too hard as well cause you never have enough money to do what you want.I have now been managing a team in the Indian National League and I find that quite good. There are 14 teams in the division the top 4 are good the bottom 2 are not very good and the others are ok.In other words its not too hard to win games, and you win/draw more than you lose.I think you should start here and move your way up as you get better at the game.

    Hope this helps :D

  8. Is it really worth finding a work around?

You'd probably be playing FM by now if you just used Steam

I am playing FM 2011 now.

I just dont like the idear that I paid for the game,I owne the game, its my game.BUT before I play single player I have to D/L updates, then I have to do other stuff just to play offline.

I bought the boxed version from the shop, why cant I just go home, install it and play it......Is that asking too much ?

  9. Well if NZogbia is out then surely Gabby must go wide and the Weimann will get his chance.

Or does Eck start Emile and risk chants of "you don't know what your doing" from 1st whistle!

Why does Gabby have to go wide ? cant we play with 2 strikers for crying out loud.

  10. Will be interesting to see how AM deals with this. Will it be the hairdryer treatment followed by a fine or just a shrug of the shoulder?

He will deal with it the way he deals with other issues.

It will be the players/fans/supporters fault

  11. Hard to call some game towards the end eg. Spurs at home, the way they're playing they may be out of the race for 4th by then and it could be an easy 3 points for us, same with Norwich away, they will be firmly on the beach by then, Liverpool away could easily be a point as they are shite, etc etc

Spurs are much better than us.

Its Norwich first season in the top, they will impress till the very end.

I wish we played at home the way Liverpool play at home.

So none of these games look like 3 points to me.

spurs at home could be an easy 3 points? That's hilarious. you know we won't get anything from that game. mcleish will set up like he did against man city or he may even go for the 6 defenders approach like last time against spurs

You know that? Wow, you'll probably get evens on that, how much will you put on?

Watching us beat Spurs will be good

Cause I got pissed off watching us draw with Wigan

  12. seems mcleishs man management is also shit. Saying stuff like you should concentrate more on football than expensive cars doesn't seem like the most inspirational of pep talks to me.

I imagine most of the players just think he is a word removed like the blues players did.

and he is spot on. this is reason many football fans are alienated with football

no he isn't. a manager should encourage and inspire his players to get the best out of them.

Mcleish doesn't drive about in a cheap car. pot, kettle springs to mind. the man is an idiot

What are you talking about ? McDipstick encourages the players ........

Before the start of every game he tells them.

Right lads, let's get out there and equalise ?!

Next season you will see the Villa players take their shirt off and run twords the Holt End and jump all over each other etc etc etc whenever we get a corner.

  13. Hard to call some game towards the end eg. 14. Just to put it in perspective, our team against Arsenal on the first day of the season:

Sorensen, Hughes, Mellberg, Ridgewell, Samuel, Agbonlahor, McCann, Davis, Barry, Angel, Moore.

Subs: Taylor, Phillips, Hendrie, Laursen, Djemba-Djemba

Take MONs team in his 28th game and compare, it's more relevant

Sorensen Bouma Mellberg Cahill Bardsley Young Petrov McCann Barry Gabby Carew

I'd argue that's a much stronger XI than what we have now

This discussion has taken an odd sort of direction now but what this shows is how MON managed to lick the squad into shape and make it more effective in his first season.

That match 28 squad went on to achieve W4 D5 L1 for the rest of the season. Sure, MON had money to spend to strengthen the squad (don't recall any complaints about that at the time) but he had also brought on previously underperforming players and had found a better mix.

McLeish has had a decent amount of money to spend- £3.5m on Given, £9.5m on N'Zogbia - as well as starting off with a much stronger squad, and arguably he hasn't made as much of the resources available to him as MON did.

Maybe I'm wrong and maybe McLeish will end the season as strongly as MON did, in which case I will be the first to change my judgement.

But as things stand, it looks as if McLeish started off with a stronger 1st XI than MON in 2006/7 (after a pre-season that MON didn't have), has been able to spend to strengthen the squad, and hasn't taken the team as far as MON did in his first season.

One of the reasons for that is that he has no tactical sence at all.He keeps playing the players out of position and he has players on the bench that should be on the field. He plays 4-3-3 with a team that is set up to play 4-5-1 and he does that at home.

I remember not too long ago when opposition teams were lucky to get a point at Villa Park ! now they must look forward to it as an easy 3 points.

Geez how we have slipped.

  15. The thread should stay open until we're mathematically safe

Closing it ahead of this point may backfire

I have the feeling that this thread will reopen early next season. As far as I am comcerned we are safe this season cause the teams below us are crap.Wigan could not get 3 points to save their soules,Wolves are worse off with their new manager and QPR have the worst fixture list of anyone.Blackburn will finish above us though.

  16. Such is the fickle nature of today's fan, a win at Arsenal and the Holte will be singing his name next home game

the holte end will NEVER sing his name

True. But herein lies the problem. We could play like Barcelona and he would still get grief. Which is why all this 'its not because hes ex bluenose' is a load of bollocks. The 'negative' football thing is just a convenient excuse to lay into him. We havent played good football for fookin donkeys years so i dont see why all of a sudden Eck gets grief. Actually...i do see why, like i said its cuz of the ex bluenose thing.

Probably best for all concerned if he does leave because a section of fans just cant get past his bluenose past. **** all to do with the apparent negative football we play

Havent played good football for years ??????

we finished 6th 3 seasons in a row less than a hundred years ago
