    It seems I was wrong that the board going abroad to get a manager but I'm very happy with PL. At first I was against him but some of the Norwich fans corrected some misconceptions I had about him. I kinda feel sorry for Norwich for losing him because I have a softspot (not too soft though ) for The Canaries.

    Petrov has one helluva fight ahead of him, but when he gets better he should stay in the club at least in some capacity.

    Yeah, and Norwich will fight till death to prevent any Norwich players going to Villa.

    With nominal fee and reasonable wage Holt might be a decent investment, and good influence for Weiman & co, he might be the late boomer and give us couple good years, or then he can be one season wonder.

    The idea with McLeish might have been that he cuts the costs, and keeps the ship steadily afloat for season or two in midtable, and then new manager can take over when the wagebill etc have been lowered but it backfired.

    He scored 15 in the prem last season. 21 in the championship the year before. People see a big striker and start throwing silly comparisons around. Marcus Stewart might I add! Once scored 25 goals in in PL first season then disappeared in 2nd season. Or Michael Ricketts, scored 21 in PL and 24 altogether in 2000/2001 season and 12 + 3 the next, and vanished after those.

    Sadly not, he makes Doug Ellis look a shy and retiring type. Villa not big enough, but Wigan are. Yeah right Dave, keep kidding yourself and your fans. Wigan has fans?

    I don't think we have much to worry about transfers if he becomes our manager, he has played in germany and got his coaching badges in germany. It's not like he had lot of chances of getting players abroad UK when Norwich was in the lower divisions.

    The reason why I think the board is going for abroad and someone surprising is actually that they went for OGS at least as Plan B or C, I don't think they would never go for him unless someone very knowledgeable told them to. Knowing that OGS is possible manager for the future takes some serious knowledge about football and managers. Also the snippets from MysteryMan that board knows why the fans are upset and disappointed also hints that they might have learned from the mistakes.

    I've been telling you I have a gut-feeling that the board is looking manager from outside UK, and will probably pleasantly surprise all doubters ;D

    If Rafa will be appointed, there's at least one good thing about that - he'll most probably get hefty warchest.

    Exactly this - I've been saying that Villa needs a young manager who has fresh ideas and doesn't have the "UK"-baggage. I still think RL&PF are going for manager outside UK, and might have a real surprise up their sleeve.

    Would it be counted as "tapping up" if we'd talk to someone's agents etc without first talking to the club?

    I still don't think we're after RM, more likely Lambert or someone outside UK, given that Lerner went after OGS even though he was not his first choice - and going after someone relatively "unknown" as manager I think RL has some football people consulting him.

    I watched the Panorama program, and Ukranian fans seemed to do the nazi salute but at least some of them had just couple fingers pointing forward, and rest clenched...isn't nazi salute suppose to be done with open palm? And on another note, they should stop using those ridiculous dubbers, and use subtitles instead.

    It's also good to remember that N'Zogbia was actually very good in Wigan, so the club probably thought he's worth the salary. I remember someone saying that Makoun is at 30-35k / week when he was signed.

    I think AVFC will probably announce new manager either this friday, or just before Euros (6.6 - 7.6.), just a hunch.

    I'd very surprised if it's any of the names that has been talked in here - I bet it's someone from central/western/southern europe.

    Holding PC at Wigan is clearly pointing that he's gonna stay.

    I don't buy that we've offered contract to Martinez, or even been in contact with Wigan since DW obviously would've been blabbing about it already in the media.
