Marka Ragnos Posted August 15, 2022 VT Supporter Share Posted August 15, 2022 (edited) Who is one major manager (2nd Division or above in Europe or 1st Div elsewhere) who often uses a very traditional “old school” formation … … and who is one who uses an exceptionally unusual or ground-breaking formation*? Could you also say where these managers are now? Thank you. This stuff fascinates me! * I realize that the questions could be complicated because some managers might use an old school formation but use it in innovative or bizarre ways, and then there’s a question of how spread out or compact the formations are. So however you decide to interpret is fine with me. Edited August 15, 2022 by Marka Ragnos
NoelVilla
Sven-Goran Eriksson never changed from 4-4-2. He actually got the system he played for all the years managing from Englishman Bob Houghton. The 4-4-2 is still used by Swedish managers and was the one we used when we got bronze in 94'
Mr_Dogg
Not really what you're looking for but read Inverting the Pyramid if you haven't.
MrBlack
Gerrard likes to try new formations. They're crap and don't work, but he's using them anyway.
