The A's? Or is yellow their primary colour? I can never remember which are the home and alternates in baseball they wear them all so often!

Yup, forgot about them. I'd say it's more green than yellow, based on their caps, both home and away.

A hot Giants workout

June, 8, 2011

By Ohm Youngmisuk

Some quick observations from today’s workout, which had 36 Giants show despite temperatures soaring into the 90s.

Domenik Hixon is looking good –- Hixon caught my attention, as well as other writers on hand. He ran routes, cut and looked good, nearly a year after tearing his ACL.

If Hixon is healthy, perhaps he can help more than just on special teams.

Kiwanuka has been lifting –- Mathias Kiwanuka, who has always had a lean, strong look, appears to have added some more muscle. He’s always been in great shape but he’s looking good after all the time off due to the herniated disk in his neck last year. Perry Fewell would love to have the impending restricted or unrestricted free agent back.

The Rookies –- Rookie wide receiver Jerrel Jernigan is small (he’s listed at 5-9, 185) but ripped. It’s hard to truly tell how fast he is when the Giants are running through some light passing drills but can’t wait to see what he can do.

Rookie middle linebacker Greg Jones also has been using these workouts to absorb all the coaching he can. Jones can often be seen talking to veteran linebackers Michael Boley, Chase Blackburn and Jonathan Goff. Although they were standing probably over 100 yards away from where the media was behind the fence, it appeared Blackburn was helping Jones out with technique and where to be and what to do. Jones also left in Goff's car. Considering that the rookies have seen all of the offseason workouts and minicamps wiped out due to the lockout, it’s really encouraging to see Jones try to learn as much as he can and I’m not saying that because he’s a Spartan.

First-round pick Prince Amukamara and seventh-round pick Da’Rel Scott also have been at the workouts. Amukamara has been shadowing some of the receivers in the light drills and working on his technique with fellow corners Bruce Johnson and Brian Jackson.

Scott was the lone running back there today. At first glance, Scott looks like a powerfully-built running back. Can’t wait to see that blazing speed.

We also got our first glimpse of fourth-round pick James Brewer. And he’s a big boy, listed at 6-6, 323.

Here’s a list of the 36 Giants on hand today. Again, since we have not met all the rookies and practice squad players in person and we were standing 100 yards away behind a fence, we can’t say with absolute certainty that this list is 100-percent accurate. For example, there is one defensive lineman that many of the writers believe is second-round pick Marvin Austin. Hopefully we will find out for sure on Friday when Shaun O’Hara talks some more.

Nice to see a big turnout.

Nicks, Manningham, Jacobs, Bradshaw, T2, Webster, Phillips, Rolle, Canty, Tuck and Osi all missing though - tut tut. Boss was there for all the earlier workouts when hardly anyone turned up lol.

Id imagine the DT was either Austin or Linval.

This NFL.com article has two analysts debating about the best DE during the 2000's.

Love how that image details that Peppers stats started a year after Strahan's but not how Strahan has been retired the past three seasons! Also how it doesn't compare rings. That is stat manipulation at its finest there.

Posted the following from John Clayton in the lockout thread:

New York Giants -- Even though the Giants are $11.34 million over a $120 million cap, they can save $7.5 million if they don't bring back offensive lineman Shawn Andrews. The Giants have plenty of contracts they can restructure, so getting under the cap won't be a problem. The difficulty might be not having too much free cap room for getting into free agency after re-signing key veterans such as Ahmad Bradshaw.

Quite a bit of money to free up there, so i think perhaps try and renegotiate with Andrews first and then if we cant get his cap number down cut him. Id say Kiwianuka and Cofield wont be resigned for sure and reckon we would only keep one of Bradshaw and Smith and if that was the case i would keep Smith.

Renegotiate Brandon also, he hinted that he would be open to a fair renegotiation earlier this offseason. Perhaps some of the other o-line would renegotiate too - the liked of O'Hara, McKenzie and Seubert are on the wind down so could take a pay cut to ensure they stick around.

Literally just cheered out loud after seeing this on PFT:

Giants sign Mark Herzlich

Posted by Michael David Smith on July 26, 2011, 10:43 AM EDT

Mark Herzlich AP

The most inspirational player in college football last season has found his professional home.

Mark Herzlich, the Boston College linebacker who won the ACC Defensive Player of the Year Award in 2008, sat out a season while battling cancer in 2009 and returned to start all 13 games in 2010, is a New York Giant.

Herzlich confirmed on Twitter that he agreed to a deal as an undrafted free agent today.

Giants coach Tom Coughlin is the former head coach at Boston College and likely followed Herzlich’s career there closely, so it’s not a surprise that Coughlin would want to give Herzlich a chance.

Although Herzlich was invited to the NFL draft, he was not selected. Now he’ll get a chance to compete for a job in training camp and to become an inspiration to millions in the NFL.

Shawn Andrews just tweeted that himself and the Giants weren't able to come to a favourable deal in renegotiation of his contract. Said it's not over yet, but looks like he won't be back unless he takes a significant cut.

Big time changes on the oline if we get rid of Seubert, O'Hara and Andrews.

DeAngelo Williams has said after Carolina get first crack at resigning him if Bradshaw doesn't resign with us then he would like to be a Giant.

Plaxico Burress mentor, former Colts coach Tony Dungy says New York would be great home for wideout

BY Ralph Vacchiano and Ebenezer Samuel

DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER

Thursday, July 28th 2011, 4:00 AM

If Plaxico Burress and Tom Coughlin can put aside their differences and make peace, then New York just may be the ideal fit for the wideout's second go-round in the NFL, according to Tony Dungy.

The former Colts coach and Burress mentor told the Daily News Wednesday that the Giants would be a "great home" for Burress. He added that the 33-year-old wideout needs a "good support system." And while Burress has had his issues with Coughlin, Dungy said the mercurial wideout gets along with owners Steve Tisch and John Mara.

"I think Mr. Tisch, Mr. Mara, he has a good relationship with them," Dungy said. "And he has a great, great relationship with a lot of the players that are still there."

Burress is expected to meet with the Giants Friday. "I think (the Giants) would be a great kind of family organization for him," Dungy said.

To Dungy, the Giants' familiarity with Burress will help them handle his comeback. "People need to understand that it is a little bit different," Dungy said. "It's not just kind of like a free agent coming into your team. He just kind of has to regrow and redevelop. You just want that support there, and I think the Giants would be one of the good teams for that."

NEW COUGHLIN DEAL

As promised, the Giants took the "lame duck" label off their coach and extended Coughlin's deal through the 2012 season. Financial details weren't immediately available. It's also not known whether Coughlin, who will turn 65 next month, considers this the final contract of his coaching career. "As we said after the season, we strongly believe in Tom," Mara said in a statement released by the Giants. "We believe in the job he has done, and we believe in his ability to lead our team in the future."

OSI UPSET

Osi Umenyiora is still angry at the Giants, insisting on a new contract or a trade. And if Umenyiora's demands aren't met, Justin Tuck doesn't expect to see his teammate when training camp opens Friday. "No," Tuck said. "I do not."

He probably won't, because Umenyiora is pondering staying home if the Giants don't honor the new contract-or-trade promise the defensive end insists was made by GM Jerry Reese. Mara told Umenyiora last week that he needs to meet with Reese face to face to work something out. "Hopefully we can get him to kind of calm down," Tuck said, "and come be the Giant I know he can be."

JACOBS MAY TIP CAP

The Giants and RB Brandon Jacobs were trying to restructure his contract Wednesday to give the Giants some salary-cap relief. A source familiar with the talks said they were going well and it's "more likely he stays than he goes." If something can't be worked out to reduce the $4.65million salary Jacobs is due this year, he could be cut. The Giants also made an offer to free-agent RB Ahmad Bradshaw, according to a source, and were awaiting his decision. . . . A day after telling C Shaun O'Hara that they planned to cut him, the Giants found his replacement when they agreed to terms with former 49ers C David Baas. ...DT Rocky Bernard was cut.
