Money taken, transaction failed

I was attempting to make a purchase online, and it failed. My bank sent a text to check it was me making the attempted payment and I confirmed it was. The problem is, the money was taken (exact amount) which is really frustrating. Does anybody know if the amount will go back into the account?

I know I will need to sort this tomorrow, just looking to see if others have ever had this.

I bank with Santander.

How do you know it was your bank that sent the text? It's trivial to send texts with the sender set to anything you want - even letters rather than numbers.

Phone the bank.
