'Elision' is the process by which speakers sometimes choose to omit words. In this case, two possessive pronouns have been elided, and the re-insertion of them makes clear both Davis' message and the reason why no audience of foreign politicians would ever be impressed:

'Dont put [...] politics before [...] prosperity'

It’s your and your right? Admittedly not great fodder for an audience of politicians but something that may certainly resonate with the rising tide of anti EU sentiment amongst the proles of Europe!

  2. Surprised at the lack of VT comment on the is it/isn't it coup in Zimbabwe over the last day or so.

Too difficult to support and too difficult to oppose. Is this the topic that finally has all VT'ers falling into line with Foreign Office policy, just ignore it and hope it all works out ok in the end?

The only thing that connects Catalonia situation with the Ukraine situation is Russian interference

Now that is most definitely something EU leaders should be shouting from the rooftops but aren’t.

Aside from that there’s little to connect them. One was an invasion by a foreign power into another sovereign country, the other was an ill advised unofficial independence referendum. One is inside the EU, the other isn’t and that does make a huge difference

I was referring to the initial response to the Kiev protests as opposed to the Crimean situation. People seem to have forgotten the run up to the ‘invasion by a foreign power’....an EU/US led effort to overthrow an elected government that was against an EU expansionist agenda.

I find the proposition that EU leaders should be commenting on the behaviour of foreign governments whilst simultaneously maintaining a wall of silence on the incarceration of political ‘dissidents’ within its own ranks, frankly bizarre.

  4. European leaders couldn’t wait to pipe up when things kicked off in Ukraine and it suited their own agenda. I don’t remember one single person standing up and saying ‘It’s an internal Ukrainian affair’!

If the matters at hand weren’t quite so serious the hypocrisy would be laughable!

    Visca Catalunya!!!

*I had been banned, but for non-attendance. The owner believed I was leading a boycott. He told me the ban would be lifted if I started attending games again. He had certain problems.

So you were banned from attending games...until you attended a game?

  6. Managers are a bit like investments...past performance is no guarantee of future returns.

Personally I was a big fan of the Little/Gregory era and thought it was going to set a precedent for appointing people who at the very least were passionate about the club, a trait which seemed to carry us forward, even if only so far. Would love to see someone of a similar ilk now, although I'm not sure there are any former players in management at the moment...or certainly not any that give a rats backside about the Villa?

Can we just agree on one thing, if Gollini manages to hold onto the shot that led to their first, he wins the Ballon d'or. I mean, he had no option but to palm that ferocious shot straight to their striker.

So does that mean now he's only going to win the Palme D'or?

  8. Final is over as a spectacle now, wawrinka is really playing some good stuff but he's never taken a set off rafa, doubt that will change in the final

Yes the only player that could threaten Nada was Djokovic. I think Wawrinka may win a set this time but thats it. He is a different player to what he was a couple of years ago so largely the stat of not ever taking a set off him is irrelovant but he's not going to beat him.

If a chant erupted today at am English ground of something like "John Smith is a fag" do you think much action would be taken? I don't reckon it would.

Didn't people actually get taken to criminal court on the back of calling Sol Campbell a 'gay boy' (not the infamous chant which contains all sorts of phobias!) from the stands a few years ago?

  10.

How accurate is transfer markt?  Has his street value at £7m with 2 and a half years left on his contract.

makes him sound like we are buying cocaine instead of a footballer :P

I figure that for 7 million you can buy every season ticket holder a gram of coke for each remaining home fixture this season. It might liven the place up a bit! :D

  11. Our game plan seems to revolve around 7 or 8 square balls back and forth along the back line until someone either panics or gets bored and hoofs it aimlessly forward. That is down to the management (or lack of).

In all fairness to the management they actually coach the back line to pass it back to the keeper when they panic, so he can hoof it aimlessly forward. ;)

  12. The proof of pudding will be in the eating.

I have remained a faithful backer of Lambert despite the predominantly dross football he has served up in the (misguided?) belief that all mangers need time. Unless he plays his strongest eleven in the cup (or any side that runs out comfortable winners) then my faith will be lost. He should be desperate to give the beleagured home support something to cheer about and he will get no better opportunity than against League 1 oppostion ( )!

  13. Whatever the odds on him being replaced in the summer are...I'll take them. His appointment for 18 months sounds like a face saver. He had stated he wanted the job full time or not at all. Spurs rumoured to be after Van Gaal after the world cup so would need a caretaker until the end of season. I can hear Levy & Baldini "So what's the minimum amount of time we can fool people into thinking this is permanent appointment?" "About 18 months?"

The only question is: Is Sherwood in on it or does he really think he is their first choice?

Rumour has it that Ann Packer won her 800m gold at Tokyo 64 shortly after shagging Robbie Brightwell in the changing room.

That's a novel way for a female athlete to get her testosterone injections!

I've got a soft spot for David Coleman as he was one of two people I could do an impression of when I was a kid (the other being Terry Griffiths), I hope he is at peace.

  15. Just found this thread ! Looks fun and right up my alley! What's the game plan with it? 4 tips a day?
