Nice bit of paraphrasing of some my previous comments (in other threads) too. Just for the record I said that the REASONS cited for having children are based either on a mental weakness OR an emotional need. If you would like to put forward just one reason for a couple living in Britain today to have children that is based on a sound logic then I'll be happy to retract the statement.

I'm hoping that when you sober up you realise that rummaging through people's drawers after being invited into their home is actually bang out of order. It may be acceptable on 'Come Dine With Me' but not in the real world! Well given that the general (rather depressing) consensus is that finishing 7th next season would be considered some sort of achievement, if we are to change I hope that we go for a manager who is entertaining and flamboyant himself or has the ability to produce a flamboyant and entertaining team.

I'm beginning to like the idea of Bernd Schuster. OK the guy has a history of falling out with boards, falling out with the media and being an advocate of the Kevin Keegan book on defensive tactics. However, he's played at the highest level, managed at the highest level (last man to lead Real Madrid to a La Liga title), would command respect of the players, has a big enough name and reputation to attract new players and would undoubtedly set the team up to play an exciting, attacking brand of football. Plus, he's available!

There's a wealth of difference between knowing what they were doing and being aware, or responsible, for the consequences of what they did. Children know the difference between right and wrong but can't always follow the right decision because they are children. They are immature and they haven't developed a foresight that allows them to be responsible.

Obviously what they did was wicked and the horror of what they did is still raw to this day. But they were treated as children and given the chance to be rehabilitated and try and make lives for themselves. Yes, I know that that was something they didn't allow poor Jamie Bulger but blood lust and mob type revenge won't change that.

I think they were dealt with correctly and it is quite ironic that the previous poster calls children scum (however dislikable they may be) and talks about our messed up society. maybe we should look at Venable's and (the other one)'s parents and point the finger at them. Children are just a reflection of their upbringing at that age. If they were from a stable, loving background I'm not convinced they would be walking around a shopping centre unaccompanied whilst deciding to hurt and kill.

Very good post which pretty much sums up a lot of my thoughts on the subject. Punishing someone for their entire life over a mistake (albeit an horrific one) they made at the age of 10 or 11 is not the mark of a civilised society.

You also raise a valid point with regards to parental responsibility and I for one would like to see this ingrained in law. If I own a dog and it bites somebody I get a fine, if I have a child that bludgeons another child to death nothing happens to me? This can't be right!

Have any of the big opinion poll firms released stats on what the results of a general election would be under both systems? It would be interesting to see the comparison, I'd much appreciate any links or info.

Any prediction on what the GE would have been under AV would be fairly pointless, as it's impossible to work out terribly accurately. We don't know how people would have placed their alternative votes, if they used them at all. Any prediction on it would be proper finger in the air stuff and most likely wrong because of the assumptions made to make it.

I was thinking more along the lines of "If there was a general election today how would you vote under system A, then system B" kind of opinion poll as opposed to retrospective guessing.

I am surprised neither side has tried to put these kind of statistics forward to support their argument, which maybe suggests it's not really going to change any results at all?

I've always been a big fan of The Bells are Ringing and have never understood why it is hardly ever sung at home games. I know it may not be considered very cutting edge by the younger generation but you have to remember YNWA is from one of the campest musicals of all time.

I think that whatever song chosen the club should record a version with the Villa words in and play it over the PA pre game...like they used to do with Dwight Yorke Dwight Yorke.
