  1. His father made a far better contribution to public life.
  2. "Basting in the broth of god's righteous indignation " is certainly a phrase I wish I had thought of. Magnificent.
  3. This clip makes it clearer that it is Barnett who is asking this terminally stupid question. I thought she was better than this pathetic nonsense. Obviously not.
  4. Viewer discretion advised: contains phrase "magic grandpa".
  5. He may have a point. It all depends what the sign says. For example, if the sign said "Round the next bend, a bunch of armed guerillas will flay you alive and eviscerate your children", that would surely cause some kind of alarm. Possibly even an accident, if sharp braking and changing direction without warning resulted.
  6. This should really go in the cooking thread, but I must point out that if you are making a whale omelette, you wouldn't use a whole whale. So it won't be any thicker than any other omelette, unless you choose to make it so. On Angela, I think she's great. (No whales were harmed in hypothesising about how to use them in omelettes, but please don't try this at home).
  7. Who was it that said that all governments lie, to get citizens to fight wars? In this case, the lies have been used as cover for decisions which have led to the deaths and disablement of many US and foreign citizens. I'd be interested to hear a legal view on whether any law has been broken by doing this. What a total disaster US foreign policy is. If only their policymakers were as ignorant of and uninterested in the existence of the rest of the world as many of their citizens appear to be. We'd all be in a better place.
  8. Seems harsh. I could go with moving her to pigeon fancier correspondent on Radio Lincolnshire or something, but shooting seems a bit much.
  9. This assessment is about right. Watching the clip of him taking the phone and being called out on it, what came across was him desperately trying to think what he was supposed to do, before taking the phone out of his pocket and pretending to look with concern at the picture. He wasn't expecting the journo to reveal that he had taken the phone and put it in his pocket. He assumed that his status was such that the journo would have to accept this, and so he was genuinely fazed when the lad didn't act as expected. He had no genuine reaction about the child. His only concern was about trying to assess what part he was meant to play, what reaction he was supposed to feign, what emotion he should pretend to feel. Trying to retrieve from his memory what other people had done in similar situations, and what might work to get him through the next 30 seconds. Psychopath.
