  1. Gerrard lost the game for us when he took Luiz off for Ramsey. Basically an invitation for the previously invisible Declan Rice to run the game.Choosing McGinn as captain will be the thing that sinks him. Presume we’re talking to potential replacements on the down low.

Kamara MOTM. Not looking forward to the next two.

  2. Much better. Midfield looks good with Luiz in it. Helps that McGinn is having a better game.

West Ham have been pretty poor, can’t see them being as bad in the second half. Get Buendia on for Phil sooner rather than later.

Why was our goal disallowed? Couldn’t tell from the Holte.

  3. V impressive when he came on last night. Could be worth sending him on loan to the Championship until the World Cup while Gerrard figures out what he wants he first team to look like then get him back and getting regular minutes in the second half of the season.

Just my view, but it's embarrassing that line up was put out.

What does that say about our squad overall, must be really poor outside the favoured 11 which is scary cos they've been pretty poor themselves.

Can it be guaranteed that all those that played tonight are fully fit and rested for West Ham?

Maybe I'm just looking for reasons to be annoyed but I find most decisions lately bizarre...

Could be that he wanted to give the first team some time to get into rhythm together.

West Ham play on Thursday so we should be more rested than them.

  6. Decent evening out! Surprisingly strong side I thought but hopefully it gets then gelling a bit more.

We’d had the ball in the net twice before they scored so I wasn’t worried unlike some of the fans near me. Yeah we weren’t great first half but we only needed to keep it tight then our quality and superior fitness would show later on, as it did.

Coutinho had a decent game I thought. No complaints with the movement of Ings and Watkins either. We could’ve ended up with 7 or 8 goals with a few late breaks where we lacked composure for the final shot. Archer looked class when he came on.

Bailey’s goal was great but something weird at half time, the subs were warming up on the pitch and he was have a very animated discussion with Cash - looked like he was furious but Cash didn’t seem that interested, I’m intrigued to see if anyone else spotted it - I may have misinterpreted what I saw!

All in all, a good win and we’re in the draw for the next round, no complaints here! (Well except that it took 45 mins to get out of the car park, feel for the fans driving back to B’ham tonight with the m6 shut!)

    Martinez 8

    Young 8

    Chambers 6

    Mings 8

    Digne 8

    Kamara 8

    McGinn 6

    Luiz 8

Coutinho 8 (gave him player of the match, but could’ve been Luiz)

    Watkins 7

    Ings 8

  7. MOMS and Villa Talks are the best two imo. Didn’t really like MOMS when I first started listening to it at the start of the first lockdown but they’ve won me round to the extent where I’ve now got the annual membership for the extra shows.

Omar’s pod is great; enjoy the chat between the contributors and that different opinions from across the fanbase are pretty well represented. Always a good one to listen to on the way down to the match.

I’ll listen to the C&B one if I have time (normally the match reaction one only as they upload so many) but can’t stand Preece when he’s on there.

I like Dan Bardell but stopped listening to 1874 a long time before it finished because Evans is awful, so dreary and loves it when things are going badly at the club; shame they couldn’t keep it going with Dan and Holly instead - would be better if she became the full time correspondent for us actually over Gregg.

Discovered the Villa podcast on Saturday with the two Irish lads and really liked it so will be adding that to regular listening.

Guess they're playing the long game on someone like Jude Bellingham but their midfield could really do with a freshening up tbh. They have the experienced warriors like Henderson and Milners in their 30s and then young kids like Carvalho and Elliott but surprisingly no CM who's in that 24-26 year old bracket.

McGinn at 50m seems a great fit, make it so Jürgen.

  9. Think we’ll see something like

    Olsen

    Young

    Konsa

    Chambers

    Augistinsson

    Nakamba or Iroegbunam

    Luiz

    Sanson

    Bailey

Ings (Archer if he hasn’t gone on loan)

    Buendia

Gerrard knows he needs a comprehensive win

There is a car park at the ground, but this costs £7 for cars (£12 for minibusses). Plus on my last visit, the cars in the away section of the car park were packed in like sardines, meaning that away fans leaving early (my team had just been stuffed!) couldn’t get a quick getaway as there were cars blocking them in. However a lot of the surrounding industrial estate units offer cheaper parking, usually around the £4-£5 mark. Some of these are located on either side of Lostock Lane. From the M61, go past the stadium on your left, move into the right-hand filter lane and turn right at the traffic lights into Lostock Lane. If you continue down Lostock Lane and take a left hand turn before to the Bromilow Arms, then I noticed on my last visit that there was some street parking to be had at the bottom of this road. Neil Casson a visiting Tottenham Hotspur fan informs me; ‘I’ve been to Bolton a couple of times and parked at a factory unit on Cranfield Road, which is the first right off Lostock Lane. Its the first unit on the right as you enter Cranfield Road costs £3.50 and it’s staffed for the duration of the game. Away fans are located in the South Stand, so it’s just a short walk back to your car. The official car parks seem to be well snarled up and parking I recommend parking just away from the ground if you want a quick getaway’.

Gary Lovatt adds ‘On the parking front, a handy little idea is to park at the Beehive pub which is on the roundabout (half a mile past the stadium coming from the motorway) where you pay £5 per car.’ All proceeds go to the Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity and you buy your parking ticket from the Reception at the adjacent Premier Inn. To get to the Beehive leave the M61 at Junction 6 and drive down towards the stadium. Then continue straight on past the stadium and the Beehive pub is situated at the next roundabout, on Chorley New Road.

Whilst Mark Pickering suggests; ‘St Joseph’s school on Chorley New Road offers parking on matchdays at £4 per car. On reaching the roundabout with the Beehive pub, turn left and St Joseph’s School is on the left hand side after about 250 yards. There is a pathway from the school leading down to the stadium – allowing fairly rapid entrance and exit to and from the ground.’

Dave Dallison informs me; ‘For the last few seasons, we have parked at the Brinsop Country Inn on the Chorley Road (A6), on the other side of the M61, which is about a 15 minute walk from the stadium. It costs £4 to park there, but the pub has good beer and reasonably priced food, with home and visiting fans mixing together. The big plus point is that you can easily get away after the game back onto the motorway with no problems’.

  11. I voted keep(removed from the emotion of the game by a few hours now). Gerrard’s made our re ent signings and if we hire someone else now do they bring in a load more players? Can’t keep changing manager. He does need to get better fast though. Sacking McPhee would be a better first move.

Having said that, I wouldn’t be disappointed if they did sack Gerrard tbh.
