  1. I give a **** about the Olympics, big time.

However, i don't think it should effect our selection for the Euros, which is a bigger tournament.

But once the Euro squad is decided, i think everyone else should be "pickable"

I agree on this...I only mentioned Rutland before becuase he (unless by some ridiculous scenarios) is not going to see a minutes action in the Euros...it would be more effective for his career to go to Olympics (where he has a chance of starting most games)

  2. Id probably take Mcleish back now Im that bored

Seriously though, surely this would have been wrapped up if anyone half decent actually wanted the job/Lerner had half a clue of whats going off.

Deja Vu from the last two appointments. Said whilst Mcleish was manager - The only negative of sacking him is that we have to endure this shit again and have zero confidence that wel actually get anyone better.

Slight over reaction maybe???? There are 4 premiership clubs (including european champions, and one of the biggest clubs in world football) all looking for a permanent manager, all of which have been doing so for a similar amount of time to us (in Albion's case a lot longer) and yet none have made an appointment...does that mean that no one decent wants them either?

  3. Rubin Dutt was apparently interviewed on Thurday or Friday. A Jurgen Klinsman recomendation by all accounts. We are not being linked to any big names. Says allot about the money being made available by RL.

Don't think it says anything about the money being made available. Think they are looking for something new and different to add to the table. At this moment in time we have no idea how much money will be avialable

Why are we being linked with managers who have been recently sacked?

OGS, Lambert, Martinez, Poyet, RDM, Grayson...all recently been sacked?

We are being linked with all and sundry doesn't mean we are approaching any of them.

  5. Ruddy has broken his finger, so is out of Euro 2012.

Congrats to Jack Butland, who is now on the plane! Whoever you are! :D

In my eyes this is a ridiculous call up. It now means that he can't play in the olympics, which would've been more benefital for his long term benefit than being 3rd choice (and nver playing) in the euros

  6. Hes a billy big time with a shit attitude and its turning me against him.

He is living my dream - villa and scotland.

But i know for a fact the night before he is dur to fly to florida with scotland hes out on the town bevying, takes birds back to his hotel, stays up all night (as u would i suppose :-)) then gets a taxi to the airport in the morning to meet up with the squad.

Pish attitude for a professional and international footballer and last nights result made it even more ridiculous and annoying.

Get shot of. Billy big time. Thinks hes made it already. Piss off son

So he didn't miss training? He didn't miss a match? He met up with the squad at the correct time when they are due for a long haul flight? Was he bevvied up the night before a game? Don't really see that he has done anythiong wrong too be honest.

  7. We're all victims of the instant gratification generation. I personally lay the blame at the common or garden disc - be it floppy or compact!

When I wanted to play a computer game on my old ZX Spectrum I would load the cassette into the tape deck, sit back and wait. I would then reload the tape as the loading process would inevitably crash at some point until finally the game would eventually load up. Ah the joys, the feelings, the emotions, the happiness!!!!

Even if that game was the worst game in the world, I would still give it time, give it a chance to win me over - mainly because I'd waited the last 11 days for the thing to boot up, so I wasn't going to turn it off after 5 minutes. Then, one day, along came my Commodore Amiga, with it's fancy disc drive, pirated games and graphics so good it was like staring out of a window and into a new world of fantasy.

I had an extensive collection of discs, each taking a couple of minutes to load, and even less time to copy. It was my first experience of "on demand", hotly followed by the CD.

As a result I never gave anything a chance.

Didn't like a song? I'd skip it, moving to the next track, only to skip that because the intro didn't immediately appeal to me.

Now with our iPods, Sky +, movies on demand, iPlayers and torrent downloads we've lost our patience, our ability to savour the anticipation and, for me, it's all because of the humble disc.

So, with that in mind, for **** sake Randy appoint someone now, I need it done so I can skip to the next part of my life!

    :flag::rant:

Haha that's ace I had the Amiga 500+ spent hrs and many broken joysticks (international athletics or something of that ilk) on that....I had so many copied games, that if I played each for 30 mins, I probably take a week to get through....those were the days....plus villa were pretty competitive in those days ( early 90's)

  8. Will be pissed off if West Brom get Ranieri. We should be going for him. I hope the board haven't hamstrung themselves by requiring that the new manager must be young. We all know what happened when they deemed Premier League experience to be necessary.

The tinkerman wouldnt fit us well at all imo....would want money...hasnt really set the world alight recently....Albion welcome to him...

Wilkins (someone else quoted before albion interviewing) on the other hand would be a good move.

  9. If Ranieri is being interviewed by the boggies we'd best be **** interviewing him too.

I doubt he'd fit the "vibrant" criterion that's been bandied about, and I think Randy & Pauly are also looking for someone younger.

It's not clear yet whether Ranieri has been interviewed alone by the Baggies, or in tandem with Ray Wilkins. Personally I'd welcome them with open arms right now!

I think the vibrant thing has gone. Don't forget when he made that statement:-

OGS - has probably indicated he was interested

Liverpool - Weren't looking for a manager (Now looks like they have first refusal on Martinez)

Lambert - was tight lipped about his future

So when he made that statement - he was probably referring to OGS - and even if something went wrong he had Martinez.

We should have done the deal with OGS on the friday - who were these other people we were waiting to speaking to....Simon Grayson, Glen Hoddle ?

What are you basing the statement on? The club has made no noise on who they are considering. How do you know that it it isn't someone vibrant abroad? Talk about jumping to conclusions

  10. Some interesting articles on Benitez...

    http://tomkinstimes.com/2009/10/some-rafa-facts/

    http://tomkinstimes.com/2009/10/the-benitez-myths-series/

Also he had a net spend of around 78m in 6 seasons, about £13m a year. Two Champions League fianls and 4 points of the title and some would want Brendan **** Rodgers first. :D

Whilst I agree that Benitez did a good job, there was a pretty good squad to start with. Has he ever had to start the building job? I don't know, so it's a genuine question

  11. Rafa would be good but really can't see it happening, would want a lot of money and doesn't really fit in with the infamous "vibrant" policy.

Still hoping that they have approached someone off the radar, who will be a perfect match. Someone able to attract good name signings, have an excellent scouting record, good at intrigating the youth and plays attacking possession football....well we can dream.

  12. It could easily be steve bruce, they hired mcleish, brucies c.v looks world class compared to his.

Mcleish took blues down and they managed to convince themselves he was a good option, do not put bruce past them.

I wouldn't want him within a million miles of VP, but Bruce hasn't done a bad job over the years, and is certainly better than some of the names bandied about.

I agree, i don`t want him either, but i wouldn`t be suprised at all if they went for him if they can`t get lambert or martinez.

Don't think so! He would not fit their criteria. If they cannot get Lambert or Martinez I’d imagine they will approach the likes of M Laudrup, Koeman, Poyet, Zola, Steve Clarke etc.....may even Philip Cocu

Not that we know who they are after, but what makes you think the names you have mentioned would be the types that would be approached. Nothing in lerners history suggests he would even know of the majority of them

The interviewing of OGS has shown that they are spreading the net wider than before.

In fairness I am just guessing but if they can sniff out OGS then surely the likes of Michael Laudrup cannot go unnoticed.

I get what you're saying, just suppose it depends on who is advising them. Coincidently isnt ML out of work? Never seen his teams play and according to wiki 47.77% win rate. Would be a big name though

  14. I was all for OGS (even before McLeish got sacked). However, as that seems dead and buried I am very intrigued (which I'm sure we all are) who comes in.

Lambert would seem the obvious one, and he could work wonders for us.

Not convinved by Martinez as he never seems to get his team "play" all yr, also defensively poor record.

Don't want RDM, didnt poorly at WBA and rode his luck in the Europeans to win. Can't see league format suiting his defensive style.

Rodgers, would be good, but doubt he will come.

Adkins, just can't see him leaving S'ton when he has just got them up.

Poyet, possibility and with Ray Wilkins as number 2 would be a good shout...

    AVB cant see it

    Benitez would like money...

Just hope the appointment happens soon.

    UTV

  15. McLeish was sacked on the Monday.

We spoke to OGS on the Tuesday about the job, and then he came over on Friday.

We also spoke to MM and the the bloke from Portugal

    We havent spoke to Lambert

    Have we spoke to Martinez?

    Have we spoke to AVB?

Have we spoke to Grayson or Kmac.

I doubt we would have spoken to DiMatteo before Saturday

If we spoke to OGS on tuesday you would have thought that the club would have tried to speak to all likely candidates last week, certainly by this week. You would have hoped we had some kind of shortlist by now and an idea of whom we wanted as we have said that OGS was not the prime candidate. I get the feeling this one could come out of left field.

For some reason and I don't really know why...I read the first part of this to the tune of Craig David Seven Days...

  16. I'm not sure if it's more fun reading this thread via a mission to wreck your keyboard's F5 button or leave it 3 hours, neck a bottle of vino, and come back to read the latest updates.

So my take is this - Southampton fans are rocket polishers (fully agree, almost my most hated team in the world - they'll get to number 1 if they sign John Terry), OGS is coming to Villa because 3 people on Twitter say so, and I need to be scared of knowing the unknown knows, because I won't know that I don't know what the unknowns are although if I did know then they'd be known unknowns making them known and therefore not unknown. Or something.

Just f**king tell me when OGS signs. Please.

    Brilliant post

  17. Time to gatecrash this thread fellow Villa fans. OSG? FFS, do me a favour, please wake up & smell the coffee! How can the majority of fans on here be so taken in by a 45 minute youtube video that comical Ali would have been proud of? IIRC correctly wasn't Brian Little sold up the river & **** over by a video montage of Savo Miss a lot scoring sensational goals in a mickey mouse league only to then go on threatening the moon with his finishing once he arrived at VP. Savo actually made barn door Heskey look like Jimmy Greaves!

I will be absolutely devestated if we appoint OSG. If this guy is really the dogs let him prove it first at somewhere like Wigan or West Brom and then, only then, should we show a firm interest. This is definitely not the time to be taking a risk on our great clubs future. We got it so wrong on the last 2 occasions it's unreal. Please PLEASE not this time again! And you wonder why we keep having to fork out millions in compensation for such crap, money that could & would have been better off invested in the team.

Seriously, I would be less disappointed if we hired Steve Kean, Terry Connor or Kermit the Frog ahead of OSG. And YES I would much rather we should have kept McLeish absolutely anyday of the week over the unproven OSG.

Before leaving this thread, just to let you know that I would only be happy with Brendan Rodgers or Paul Lambert of those managers who have been linked to the post. Both have proven that they can take on a club, build it up & move it forward.

Getting Swansea & Norwich in the Premiership is like winning the Champions League with Villa.

That my friends should be our ultimate ambition & not fawning ridiculously over some muppet whose heart lies at Old Trafford!

    OSG? NO NO NO!

I didn't make my mind up on the basis of a YouTube video. As a player OGS was very tactical. My mates and I have often said that he would make a great manager. You then see that fergie was desperate to get him as a coach and offered him a role instantly. That in my mind stood highly, the success he has since had (albeit at a lower level) helps my opinion.

As for keeping McLeish or getting Kean you must be on a wind up!

Why should Albion or Wigan have him to test him out first? As has been mentioned before, Mourinho, Wenger, AVB were all relatively unknowns and were given high jobs. Look how well they did.
