  1. I think that I’m terms of experiencing Kamara to good out the gate is a bit normal given everything. He’s a player that you’ve invested a good bit in financially and in a position of need. On the other hand, I’m sure that he’ll have to adapt to the premier league. So, honestly it kinda depends on how quickly he’s able to pick up on things. The other question is are you guys patient in waiting to see if a player emerges? I can only speak from experience that at olympique marseille a fair bit of fans aren’t patient. If the player isn’t preforming it can be easy for fans to just write him off.
  2. Hey Tom13! Yeah I mean as a marseille fan I could say that I’m surprised. But, if I look at his time spent with you guys it seems that he’s often injured. It’s kinda weird as I don’t remember him being injured that often with us. I feel like he’s definitely decent, as he was ok when we had him. So, the question is can he stay injury free and is he doing everything that he can to stay healthy? I’d say that if he’s able to play consistently that also would help out. I remember seeing a couple games that he was just substituted in if I’m not mistaken. Which is ok for playing time; but I’d imagine that with consistency he’d be better. What do you think Tom? Is he useful to the squad and do you think it’s possible to get anything from him?
  3. Hey guys I figured I’d post a message since it’s been a little while. Honestly, watching Kamara’s time during the games spent with the national squad I’d be tempted to say don’t count him out from the get go. Will he not show up during games where it matters? Yeah definitely, I mean that’s kinda the problem we had when he was with us. On the other hand, you’ll have a really good player that can really make the team better. Other than that there is nothing more to add really. I mean he made that statement a while back saying that the move to Villa was mainly a question of experiencing a different league/ style of playing soccer. I guess that I get his point. If you do your whole career in France; I would imagine that you could want to see something else. On our end we’re hoping that we find someone to fill his spot. (Witsel, Coquelin or any other person Longoria/Sampaoli feel will work).
  4. Depends on who you ask honesty and to what extent they watch certain games. According to my friends that are also French soccer fans. (1) Ligue 1 or PL if we can choose our own league. Otherwise yeah probably the PL because it’s the PL. (2) La Liga or Ligue 1 if given the choice. Ligue 1 would go to 2nd place if again we can pick ourselves. (3) it’s going to be la Liga if the second spot is occupied by la Ligue 1. 4th would be a toss up between la Serie A and la Bundesliga. A lot of my friends prefer watching Italian teams play. But, it’s also hard to not respect the top clubs in the Bundesliga and the players that they have. How would you guys look at things? Do people really care about French soccer part from say PSG or teams of higher caliber? For Kamara I would think that his interest among many other reasons would be to play against these top teams. What player doesn’t want to play Man U or City or any other top club?
  5. Hey Mwarley2! Do you think that with Kamara being around that might change things with Sanson? Why do you think that things haven’t worked out with Sanson yet? It seems that he’s been injured with your team as well as when he used to play with us.. As I was telling Jamaican Villan my feelings are mixed when it comes to Sanson. I generally loved him when he played with Rudi Garcia as coach. When he started with us he was pretty good I’d say. (I think that he only played about 18 games ) But I feel as time went on I didn’t care for him as much. I just didn’t feel that the way he played with AVB was that amazing. Yeah, injury’s happened throughout his time with us so maybe he is a little injury prone? I can’t really say as I don’t remember if that was such a factor.. Either way I feel like he had an awesome season (the one where we go to the Europa league final) and I expected that he would just continue in that direction. So, I’d probably say no to answer your question. He was a decent player that had a good run with our team. But, generally having players return back to their former team can be a problem. So, I’d honestly like to see him succeed with Villa or any other team for that matter. What are your thoughts on Sanson? Do Villa fans feel like he’s a decent player?
  6. Hey Jamaican-villan! To be honest I’m a bit mixed when it comes to Sanson. I liked him when he played with Rudi Garcia as the coach. His second season wasn’t great but I’d say that the whole team underperformed that year. Can’t really say anything about his first season with us as he only played 18 games with us if I’m remembering correctly. That being said I felt by the time we had AVB as coach the player seemed to stagnate. I don’t know if I didn’t care for him any longer, or just wanted to see him play like he’d did with Garcia but things seemed different. I guess that in my opinion I expected that after having an awesome season he would continue to develop in the same way. But in all I think he definitely is an awesome player but maybe he just hit his apex in Marseille? I guess that he just to find that right balance for things to be the same at Villa or elsewhere. I will say that don’t remember him getting injured often but when he did it was for a longer period of time. What do Villa fans think of Sanson Jamaican-Villan?
  7. I hope you do too! I don’t think we ever tried him at that spot. I don’t see why he would be put in that role. But I guess that you could always try things out. I mean we moved him out of a defensive role and moved him into the midfield.
  8. I think that Longoria the president of Marseille kinda said it the best on this radio broadcast. He said that he respected Kamara’s decision but that a lot of promises were not kept. I think that a good bit marseille fans aren’t really happy with how things ended. I guess that I along with my friends are more the “good luck to you!” mindset with Kamara.I guess that it’s more along the lines of- If he’s happy awesome, now let’s focus on the future. Obviously from an outsider’s perspective the choice seems odd. Why would you not want to play in the champions league with Madrid? For Marseille fan on the surface it just seems like a move to a PL club with the salary that comes with it. As you pointed out MWarley2, that doesn’t really put into consideration the project that Villa seems to be building with Gerrard. If a coach tells you definitely will be key component to a team; maybe that is better than say fighting for a starting role on a bigger team. It’s hard to say honestly.. Definitely Gerrard is known when it comes to to French football fans. But, we don’t really know how he is as a coach. He apparently did some great work with the Rangers. But, I don’t know many of my friends that follow Scottish soccer. But definitely he is well known for his time spent in Liverpool. I mean we had Cisse that played with him back in the day and they were awesome on that Liverpool team. I would imagine that Kamara has some type of attachment to Gerrard or his time spent at Liverpool. I mean if nothing else there’s that legacy that can’t be ignored. Or maybe Gerrard doesn’t mind players wearing flip flops and shorts during meetings. (all jokes aside) Kamara did say that he spoke to Sanson and Digne a bit so that definitely seems to have had a big impact as well.
  9. Hey everyone! I appreciate the welcome to the forum. Sorry in advance for the long post. I figured that I’d write a bit about Kamara from the perspective of a Marseille fan. That being said, every Marseille fan has their own opinions on Kamara and the signing. He is a player that was brought up through the youth squad all the way to his last season with us. So, for a good part of us he seems like the kid from Marseille that started from the bottom if you will. In terms of his contact according to the president he was always offered an extension or the opportunity to join another team if he wanted. But, it seems like Kamara just wanted to run out his contact and then sign with the club of his choosing. This for some Marseille fans seems like he’s not really giving back to the club. On the other hand, you have fans that are saying that if he wants to play for Villa he should do so. It’s his career and his life. So, yeah everyone has their own opinions about things. In the way of the player he started playing in defense and has evolved into playing in the midfield. I would say that he can play in either position. I would imagine though that he would have to adapt to the PL. In the way of fans burning the training ground area it’s actually a culmination of things. The previous president, Jacques Henri Eyraud was not really appreciated by the fans and journalists. Be it his press conferences and whatnot. That coupled with bad results score wise and the pandemic didn’t really help things. So, you had fans that got mad and destroyed some stuff on the training grounds as well as light some trees on fire. This led the owner to “demote” the former president and put Longoria in place of the former president. This also covers in part the idea that Sanson’s transfer helped AVB get fired. To be fair with all the losses on the field AVB was going to have to leave regardless. But, yeah I guess that Sanson’s transfer maybe sped things up a bit.
  10. Hello everyone! Just felt like posting given everything I’ve read about Kamara. Honestly, it seems that overall you’ve got a solid signing. I’d imagine that it will make things easier for him to get used to the PL seeing as both Sanson and Digne are there.
  11. Hello everyone! I just figured that I’d post in your forum. I’m an Olympique de Marseille fan and overall fan of football. To be honest, I also wanted to also see generally what people think about our former players as well. best, Mr.OM15
