Nerd alert, I genuinely enjoy brutalism. I don’t really know much about New Street Station, but was it really brutalist?
I’ve had a bit of a google out of interest, and I’m not seeing any pictures of a brutalist railway station architecture. I even looked it up on Wikipedia and it names the architects but doesn’t suggest it’s brutalist. There’s a car park and an office block, they’re not really brutalist either they’re just shitty typical build. There is a brutalist signal box, it ain’t great, but it is deliberate intended brutalism.
Brutalism is gorgeous, anyone got any pictures of New Street as brutalism? Or are we just shorthanding shitty concrete 1960’s and brutalism as the same thing?
Walk past this everyday.

Full fat coke seems abnormal to me at this stage in life. I just prefer the taste of zero it's my go to on school nights before the weekend. Then, I drink 8 litres of white wine and murder Bulgarian prostitutes.

On my next trip to Villa Park we're flying to Manchester. If I go to www.nationalrail.co.uk and search for a train journey from Manchester Airport to New Street Station on Saturday morning, I get a journey where I have to change train in Crewe. The total trip costs £54.40. There's a departure from the airport at 09.01 and arrival in Birmingham at 10.48.
If I split the trip in two, the result is different. Still I get a departure from Manchester Airport at 09.01 with arrival in Crewe at 09.39 and that ticket costs £5.90. If I search for the second part of the journey, I get a departure from Crewe at 09.49 and again with arrival in Birmingham at 10.48 and a ticket costs £16. So a total price of £21.90. It's less than half of what it costs if I buy a ticket for the whole trip at once.
Am I missing something here?
No, you're experiencing fare splitting and it's completely normal. What is also completely normal is train fares in the UK are bonkers.

There was a John Carew executed for the regicide of Charles I a couple of hundred years earlier too. They must rise every now and then to do something historic.
That Newcastle penalty was historic...ally shite.

My other half went to see family to scatter her nan's ashes yesterday, would have been her 90th birthday.
Didn't entirely go to plan. First one of the family slipped and spilt half of her own mum's ashes on the rug, scooped up as much of her as she could, but lots is going to end up in the vacuum.
Then, after gathering most of the family and going to the destination, they learned that scattering ashes isn't allowed there on Sundays. Fair enough, rules are rules, but people have travelled quite some distance and it'll be a nightmare getting everyone back together. So they ended up decanting her in to small bags and surreptitiously scattering a handful at a time. They basically got the family together to flytip nan. Finally topped off by her brother forgetting it was a stealth mission, standing in the middle of the grounds banging the bottom of the urn to get all the last bits out in full view of everyone before making a runner to the car.
She'd have found it **** hilarious from start to finish.

I tried to stay up for the UK new year but I always fail. I stood on the balcony watching all the Sofia fireworks and opened a can of beer, looked at it and decided I was too full and bloated to continue so I chucked it down the sink.
Successful meal choice this year though. Which involved a raid on Lidls hams and cheeses section and some crusty bread. Homemade egg mayo done as well. Horrendously sulphurous farts this morning. You can almost bite the scent.

I do this with everything. We’re having a party for my son as he’s 2 on Saturday. We started the shopping list about 2 hours ago. It was fine at first.
Now we’re down to deciding which brand of orange juice to have and my constant answers of “it really doesn’t **** matter” are wearing thin. I stopped caring about an hour ago
