  1. Just finished Deadloch (think it was recommended on here). Absolutely brilliant. Aussie TV seems to be in a league of its own the last 10 years, seen loads of great programmes from there over the last couple of years. It's on Amazon Prime, for those interested.

  2. We've only submitted a 22 man squad, so for him to be left out is quite the snub. Maybe he is off to Turkey after all, otherwise why not just leave him in there?

  3. With news that Bailey is about to sign a new contract, I wonder if this is a way in which we’ll be able to help reduce our FFP?

Bailey’s amortised fee is about £6.25m per season, with about £9m remaining, so let’s say he gets a new 4.5 year contract, that amortised fee will reduce to £2m a season (albeit with a probably slightly higher wage).

We can do similar with Buendia, who has about £17.5m of his fee remaining, so we could go from £7m per year to about £3.5m per year.

Just a thought, and maybe perhaps why the club seem to be quite relaxed about the reports from Ornstein that we need to sell by June 30th to comply.

Why didn't we just take a loan offer and get some of his wage covered?  He's absolutely no use to the squad.

I think we’re trying to move away from this image of being a club that will just loan players out, and want to sell unwanted players. This will stand us in good stead long term. We’re no pushovers anymore.

  5. A lot to get done over the next 6 hours or so:

    Chambers out?

    Gauci and Sousa confirmed

Many loans to be confirmed (Sousa to Argyle, O’Reilly, Feeney, plus one other to Real Union. Bogarde to Sunderland/other Championship team?

    Have I missed anything?

Traore flying back from AFCON for a medical?

Can't see it happening, it's too late

Medicals can be done anywhere. We did Gauci’s whilst he was at the Asian Cup.

Also, not all windows end today, Turkish one is open for a further week. So there’s hope!

  7. Binged the first three series of Sons of Anarchy. For some reason had never seen it before, probably because I’ve got zero interest in bikers? Who knows.

Anyway, it’s excellent, but the Ulster accents are an absolute travesty. Especially as there’s (at least) two Brits in the main cast, you’d have thought one of them would’ve had a word with the director and said how awful they were. James Nesbitt would’ve been perfect as Jimmy O’Phelan, too.

Anyway, it annoyed be sufficiently that I’m going to have a break from it to catch up on other stuff before recommencing.

  8. Here’s a question. This new 70% of turnover spending model that is currently in action for UEFA, and being voted to be brought in for the Premier League. Is it a simple calculation, based on your turnover within that calendar year, with player amortisation, and related ‘FFP profits’ on players now redundant?

If so, that would be great news for us with regards to getting rid of someone like Coutinho, as we wouldn’t be bothered about effectively ripping up his contract with no impact to FFP (a positive, even, as his wage would no longer be in the calculation).

This might also see a move away from selling academy players for quick FFP profits.

No doubt I’ve got the wrong end of the stick here, so please feel free to correct me if you know!

Not entirely sure but apparently they were living separately for a couple of years and that's before Rosie Holt appeared.

Ah right! Well I’m glad if that’s the case, as Bridget Christie is great, so wouldn’t have wanted Stewart to do the dirty on her.

I hope so, him and his wife split up last year, his appearance doesn't seem to be deterring my wife though.

That’s because Stewart started seeing Rosie Holt, isn’t it?

  11. They have a massive match tonight, so stands to reason that Villa decided to let them and Rogers focus on that before submitting another bid. It’s one of the reasons we have a good reputation with other clubs when buying players, we treat them with respect.

I have no doubt we’ll go in with another bid later in the week. Relax.

  12. I imagine we’ll double his wages, and give him about £2m per year, and if it’s about £8m fee, that would work out to about £3.5m per year in FFP terms (if his contract is until June 2029). When you consider that Traore is costing us £8.5m per year, it’ll be a smart move. Bringing in cheaper squad options (especially if they have scope to improve) is essential to make up for our shortfall in turnover compared to the Sky 6.

Missed a lot ofposts since - but is that definitely how it works as I was fairly confident that they had to spend 3 Years here before their 21st birthday - and obviously Kosta can't quite do so, as he turned 18 at the start of December, so will be a 4-6 weeks short of the deadline to count as Homegrown on his 21st birthday

Anyone signed aged 18, and spends three years at a club with no loans out will be homegrown. The wording about before 21st birthday is incorrect, it’s three years before they turn 22.

As an aside, Duran will miss out on being Villa homegrown by one month, which is a shame.

Too small? So Phil Foden and Messi would be rubbish in league 2 and 1🤣

    Maatsen- 1.67m
    Solomon- 1.69m
    O Reilly- 1.7m
    Messi - 1.7 m
    Sterling- 1.7m
    Foden- 1.71 m

Height does not equal size in this context. Obviously.
