I thought Watkins wasn't in the competition, thought Southgate wernt taking him?

If he's now I because of some unluckyness to some player then I am gladbbecause he looked just more lively and alert than the subs who went off.

Can someone fill me in please as to why Watkins was on tonight thx.

The players that didn't make the cut stay with the team through the friendlies. They don't leave until the Euros start. White, Godfrey, Lingard and JWP (although one of the latter two will probably get picked to take TAAs place) aren't going either and they all played today.

He’s excellent and has everything to be our no. 1 CF for years to come, I’ve never seen a player who works so tirelessly but also has the talent & technical ability to go with it. Looking forward to see him improve further too, what an outstanding debut season!

Wouldn’t want to see him shifted to the wing (and it would be nice if he didn’t have to wander away from the CF position as much), we just need to increase the quality and rate of deliveries for him to stick in the back of the net. He could easily get 20+ goals a season if we have enough quality players to supply him…

He nearly had 20+ goals this season. So many shots that should’ve gone in but either being unlucky or just a little inaccurate cost him.

I love mings, and we’ve a lot to thank him for..

...but this chap’s not wrong with what he’s saying.

I don’t think he’s wrong with what he’s saying in the post that I replied to. I agreed with him. I just don't agree that people aren’t allowed to be critical of Mings.

Elite sport has to be exempt.

I didn’t see the Mancs and Chelsea teams in the quarantine hotel after their trip to Porto.

Portugal was a “green list” country at the time of their finals so isolating wasn’t a requirement for returning to  the UK.

Has he commented anywhere on the booing of the taking of the knee, as he is often vocal about that, and it was particularly bad last night?

Not saying that's connected in anyway to his 2 moments of madness in the first half, but he does struggle with the mental side of the game and wondering if he was wound up.

Not sure about yesterday but Villa fans were booing them before the Chelsea game and he played very well in that game.

    It's not wrong though.

Oh, wait, I see, you are saying it is a Trump "wrong" meaning it is right, yes, absolutely.

That was a terrible challenge and if it was against one of our players we would be screaming bloody murder. It was clearly deliberate.  I love Mings but he needs to stop the rushes of blood to the head.

Theres a difference between being objectively critical and irrational with criticism. Everyone knows what he did was stupid and everyone knows he has bouts of boneheaded mistakes.

Again any criticism of Mings and you're a hater.

He is hot-headed. Seen it numerous times. He switches off seen it numerous times. He has a nasty streak and he makes mistakes, too many.

For Villa we will accept it. He and Konsa are the best we have atm and we've kicked on massively.

In an England team , in a tournament, in knock out football or 2 bad games in the group and you're gone - I don't trust the guy. At all.

He does really stupid things a 28 year old Cb should not do.

Who's the one player "dream" if you had to name one? Cock on the block one signing

Just trying to gauge it, go daft, go realistic, go £1 go £40m, any position any player... Just 1 player

    I'd say brandt £25m

Going absolutely ludicrous with Kingsley Coman for a cool $75 million.

I hope they lose and miss all the penalties they get. Hopefully he continues scoring so he goes to the world cup instead.

They're a mediocre side so I wouldn't be too surprised to see them exit early. I'm excited to see McGinn and the Scots (who had the best squad announcement) put a hurtin' on them come Wednesday.

It's a guess. But if you don't think losing jack puts us squarely in a relegation battle you're living in a fantasy world.

Sure this passed season but in the theoretical world of him leaving next summer if we fail to make a European competition, we won’t be squarely back in a relegation battle. Unless all this summers signings turn out to be flops, we would most likely fall back to being a lower mid-table team if he left.

Mate I get your points, and I'm eager to take advantage of our position as well BUT

Jack is 1 player, if him going meant the whole team fell to shite after years of investment, questions would need to be asked.

There are teams without Jack doing ok. He is undoubtedly a gamechanger for us, but if everyone else we've bought can't make a decent team it will have been a deeper failure.

Also, we keep seeming to forget that he wouldn't be going for free, and we aren't owned by Mike Ashley.

This is essentially what I was going to say. @MotoMkali, you seem to be massively underestimating what the owners are building. It's bigger than 1 man and in your theoretical world of Jack leaving if we don't hit European competition next year, we would be getting a massively amount of money for him. So as sad as that day would be, it would ultimately be a positive in the long run

Then we will lose Jack and will be set back 5 years. 125 mil is enough of an outlay to get us where we need to be. The additional money through Europe will cover the extra outlay and ffp has been turned into a joke.

Set back to what and why 5 years?

Norwich went down and I don’t recall him doing anything particularly special.

Traore and El Ghazi’s stats for this season look great but if you popped into those threads at any point this season you’d think they were both less than average players, so stats don’t always mean a lot.

What do their threads have to do with it? We’re also talking about specific stats that actually mean something unlike, say “blocks” by defenders, which can be very misleading. Chances created means the ball was put into a position where the attacker player had the opportunity to score a goal (regardless of whether or not they convert). He’s someone who could actually contribute what we’re missing to the team.

FWIW though, I don’t want Buendia at $40 million.

I get it, but I'm sure those quotes are in response to people suggesting we bring in Tammy Abraham or Ivan Toney or someone who'd cost £40 million or something, right? Which comes back to priorities and expenditure. I really have a hard time fathoming how someone could be against bringing in a reasonably-priced reinforcement on principle.

Speaking of reasonably-priced reinforcement I wouldn't mind taking a chance on Gaetan Laborde. Just turned 27, in his prime and can play across multiple positions. 4 goals from CF, 7 from RW and 5 from midfield positions. Could probably get him for $15-20 million.
