I'm afraid he will leave for Man U, contrary to some media comments I think the England snub increases the risk of him leaving. It's not much more he can do here to get a call up, he may score a couple of more goals and make some more assists next season, Southgate will probably still not call him up. If he goes to Man U and outshines the players there Southgate can simply not ignore him anymore. Add to that the lure of playing in the Champions League and performing there.

I would be really sad to see him go, but if would get £80M and can bring in say Edouard, Benrahma and Buendia for that money, we would be a stronger team.

Except Man Utd won't be paying the £80m and therefore he's going nowhere.

Don’t you usually play one up front?

One thing is for certain, it might not be Villa but there is no way on earth that Watkins isn't leaving Brentford this window. Not a chance.

I wouldn't mind Wilson - at the right price.

What an upgrade on Conor he would be in that midfield alongside McGinn in that 4-3-3 that Deano loves.

                            Edouard

    Jack                                 Sarr

         Loftus-Cheek          McGinn

                               Luiz

See above for my ideal window in attack. Lordy lord if that happened we would be so exciting its unreal

I don't disagree with the first 2 points, but that's all hindsight stuff.

I still think we overpaid for his record and no way would Lazio have paid as much. Wasn't it rumoured at the time we purposefully paid more than would have been accepted to ensure he got a work permit?

Not sure mate I hadn't heard that but fair point if true ofc.

I think considering the circumstances (1st season in a totally different standard and culture and the injury) he's a wait and see to see if we got value or not.

I'd argue Trezeguet, Nakamba and Engels too. Although oddly enough, Trezeguet's goals kept us up.

If you look at the stats for DCM's under 25, Nakamba is in the top 15 players in Europe at that age believe it or not. He has potential to be very good and 11m will look like good value.

I'm not someone who thinks he's a complete write-off and has no chance of making it here, but surely you agree we overpaid for Wesley?

I rate Wesley and saw enough from him to suggest that he should be given a chance once fit to go at it again this season.

We could play the game where I say that look at Haller and Joelinton at £40m etc etc... In which case, for a striker who contributed a net effective 7 points for us last season and with strikers being the most expensive position, £22m was actually OK.

At the time Lazio and a few other top clubs actually rated him super highly.

Just to put things in perspective:

Ollie Watkins (age 24) scored 26 goals in 4,456 mins which equates to a goal every 171 mins.

Kelechi Iheanacho (age 23) scored 10 goals in 1,314 mins which equates to a goal every 131 mins.

Considering Iheanacho is a year younger, and plays in a better league, I think it shows that Watkins should not be our first choice and we should not be giving Brentford anywhere near the £25mill they want. One good goal scoring season doesn't warrant that kind of money and we shouldn't be taking that risk. Yes he's only played 1 year at ST (hence his break out season) but that should only be seen as a negative and makes this move a huge gamble.

And I'm not saying we should go and get Iheanacho, just that there's several better options we should be focusing on first.

To be fair, no one other than very loose tabloid shit rags have said that we would be paying £25m for him.

If we are indeed in for him (with our transfer team nowadays i'd be suprised if we actually were) I would think it more for like £17-18m tops.

In my opinion the only player that we overpaid for last year was Targett. Getting players for sensible prices is possibly the reason things have been so quiet so far.

    Clearly?

There have been no proper links at all from our side, only very aged stuff from a Kosovo reporter and some stuff in German tabloids that are their equivalents of the Sun. The only thing that is clear from my perspective is a player who is settled in Germany and who's representatives have said wants CL football. The only people who were offering said football who were reportedly interested in him were RB Leipzig.

As far as I'm concerned he's staying at Werder, they are even saying that on their forums.

Unless there is actually a proper link to a club outside that country of course, which there is not.

No I clearly stated that I also thought we improved as per in the previous post

Official retraction, didn't see that part!

Still don't think there was a drop in intensity as the goals and targets (i.e staying up and the millions that come with it and europe and the millions that come with it) were still the same for every team.

  10. 6 minutes ago, sne said:

    I don't.

You just had too look at the games to see they were played at a much lower tempo and intensity. Part of this was down to no fans and that will be the same this season but a lot was IMO down to opponents not as bothered.

Because Arsenal, Sheff Utd, Man Utd, Chelsea and Wolves were just "not as bothered" about European places when they played us...

Pull the other one mate, you're shitting on the teams improvements post lockdown. We we're clearly better at the back.

Things I want from this transfer widow

Jack singing a new contract - the biggest thing that could happen this window

new singing that improve the team and allows us to play the football we want. Fast and and attacking.

so, pacy players on the wings and a striker that convert his chances - for me, Rashica, Watson and Edouard but I think it will be players we haven't even seemingly been linked to that come through the door

faster and more robust full backs - starting to get too much to wish for :D

a solid number 8 in the middle of the park. As good defensively and offensively - John McGinn is this player mate?

hogan, Lansbury, jota, kalinic, Davis, samatta find new homes - agree with all except Davis, think he has something to offer

and a signing today 😅 - would be amazing!

    See bold

I can't get over Harry Winks getting called up. He brings absolutely nothing to the table. You telling me he's a better pick than Jack right now in midfield? No way in hell.

In the English Premier League season 2019/20, Harry Winks played 26 matches (plus 5 as a sub).
He had 2 shots on target from a total of 10 shots and scored 0 goals (0.50 xG).
Harry Winks averaged 55 passes per match with a pass completion rate of 90%, and had 1 assist.
    Team: Tottenham Hotspur F.C
    Position: Playmaker
    Nationality: England

They're some stats for an England international to be picked on "form"....

Errr, based on we haven’t signed anyone yet and we are only one of six clubs not to have signed a first team player having escaped  relegation by the skin of our teeth.

If you look in the same interview that DS says he delayed his holiday for a week to explicitly tell Lange the player criteria he wants he also mentions Luiz and how it took the lockdown period for Luiz to truly get match fit......and how he doesn’t want to repeat that this time round.

Now if you want to disagree with my point, it might help to say something valuable......like negotiating £25m-£30m transfers takes longer or something rather than simply having a pop at me.

Alright mate we know you like making your point but you don't have to post it 3 times :D
