Yes , just as we did nothing over the 'Salisbury' murders.......

Yes you may well be right, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him be elected again. Remember, he was supposed to have no chance of being President at the last election. The press in America are like the BBC in the U.K., they have a left wing bias and report everything accordingly.

Regarding someone shouting 'white power', how is this different than the 'black power' movement that has been so prevalent for years in the good old USA.....

  3. Is there any difference in our team performances than when Lambert was here? No, I thought  not. That's your answer then.....Or you could always lure Lamberk back? Now that would be funny....😱😱😱😱😱

I mean stability in terms of players.I think there are some good players who will do well in the championship.A new manager coming in is probably going to want to completely restructure the squad. We have done that 3 or 4 times in the last 5 years. Many people on here have demanded we get rid   players that ended up being good Lowton,Albrigton,Gueye,Traore etc I hope we don’t keep making the same mistakes.Buying lots of new players is no guarantee they are going to be any good.

We are struggling at the moment mainly because we lack belief we can beat the bigger teams. The defeats we suffered against Arsenal and Liverpool have had long lasting effects. Our squad is lacking talent in some key areas.I also think our main focus should be on avoiding relegation until it is certain.

I don't think any of the 'good' players you mentioned are regulars in their respective teams are they?

Grealish ,Mcginn ,Mings and Luiz thats it really in terms of PL quality , Keinan Davis is our bes CF currently but he doesn’t score in a better team he would be ideal to bring on at the 70 min mark to see a game out and hold things up

On current form only Grealish and Luiz would find another team in the Premiership. McGinn was pants even before he was injured and Mings is horribly inconsistent....

Any job would have its minimum target & KPI to meet. I remember our management keep repeating  they didn’t expect us to be promoted last  year. So most likely Smith may get another year..

Do you really want another year of unfettered dross?

You could go through every manager, who has failed with us and they could muster a tale of mitigation.

If you now drill down on all the things that have conspired against the bottom six managers they too would be able to formulate a compelling list of mitigation, to suggest they have been unlucky.

there are no unsuccessful managers, they are all unlucky, or hard done by.

look, as hard as it is to take, successful managers, make it happen....unsuccesful ones don't.

I wish Villa fans would stop making excuses for poor managers. We aren't talking about junior league football here. The manager needs to be a dynamic personality with ideas to match. Smith has been a failure in the Premiership, please except this, just look at our position in the league if you cannot grasp this fact. And as for saying that you 'look forward to success in the championship ' , this is just the attitude that permanates through every fibre of a failing Premier team. If the fans lack ambition for the club then they will always settle for failure, I don't and won't....

Thanks 'TRO' for another honest and accurate assessment.

It would leave us 3 short, with a decent amount of money from their sales. And that's before considering that some of the guys not good enough for the PL, would be good enough for the championship.

If we go down the rebuild would be nowhere near the scale it was last summer.

Going on recent history I imagine Smith would buy another bunch of misfits and losers unfortunately. Still there is alway Wesley to to come back and save us.....😬🤡.

I am disappointed with the owners and with the trust they have put in place with Purslow.

With Dean Smith we had the right man to lift the club from where we were dithering around in the championship to get promotion to the premiership.

He was the right man for all of the reasons we know about, Villa supporter etc giving a connection with the club to the fans. It was perfect.

We all know the owners are very very wealthy, however, if the owners are as serious as they say about taking us to the next level then Dean Smith is not the manager to take us there.

It should have been thank you Dean, promotion and job done. Here's a pay off as a thank you and good luck for the future. If not at the start of the season then at least at Christmas, but hell what do we do, give him a stonking new four year contract !!!!!

Purslow should have gone out to get a manager who could take us to that level. I don't know who, but then it's not my job is it.

All of the teams at the top have gone out and got the top managers. The clubs with new money have done it.

Dean is a nice guy, he is not the type of manager to take us to the level we all desire.

Unfortunately, the fact that Deano was given a new contract this year just clarifies that our 'new' owners don't know anything about football, or the running of a successful club......( nothing new there then).😉

"All the best players" - As chicken field pointed out, very few are good enough for the PL.

Yes, I agree, it wouldn't leave much of a team would it?

I like Targett, he's a good technical player and has linked up great with Jack plenty of times, but the lower end of the Premier League is about his ceiling I'd say given his general lack of physicality. I'm already scared for him potentially having to come up against Traore at the weekend.

Without wanting to be too much of a doom-monger I do think in the event of us going down we'd more than likely hang onto him and he'd be brilliant in the Championship (which is amazingly a lot more than can be said for some of our other signings).

Terrible defender who gets beaten by any decent winger. Okay going forward but that isn't what he is paid for. Another terrible signing.

Sorry, all the best players will leave if we are relegated, leaving us with yet another 'rebuilding job'. So back to square one with a wasted year in the Premiership. You couldn't make it up, only at Villa could supporters accept mediocrity as ' okay'

Yeah, I can see why he's done nothing to earn 1 full season at his job.

    Its just utter nonsense

If we get relegated you can always say, ' oops, I was wrong there'. No different to Lambert in my opinion, you don't want him back do you?😱😱😱😱😱😱

I agree that the level of expectations that you approach the season with will colour your view as to whether what we are seeing is acceptable or not. Personally, I will be very very happy with 17th and have thought that from the off - For me what we are experiencing now is exactly what I thought 17th would feel like - just less than a point a game. Its frustrating as hell but its exactly what I expected.

We have been a victim of our own success. Bruce's squad was aging and unbalanced and needed a serious overhaul - that could have been done more slowly and carefully if we had stayed in the Championship and still allowed us to be very competitive.

Against the odds we won promotion and that neccessitated a massive changearound (I dont buy the arguement that we could have kept more of the championship winning squad and added fewer, high quality players. I dont think we had the numbers to do that). This has left us with a very average players by PL terms and a squad that has been asked to find its feet and find some cohesion in the cauldron of PL competition. We have only a handful of players who are truly good enough for the PL (Grealish, Mings, Heaton, McGinn - 2 of which are injured), a handful who wouldnt look out of place in the PL with very good players around them but are not ready/able to carry a team themselves (Targett, Luiz, Samatta), those who are clearly Championship quality or worse (Nyland, Engels, Guibert, Hause, Hourihane, Trez, AEG, Nakamba, Lansbury, Jota, Davis) and outright disappointments (for me) like Wesley. We can probably argue certain players up or down a category but whichever way you argue it we are a lower, lower-half squad all day long.

The hope is that we can scrape together enough points to survive and then swap out four or five or the exisiting squad for better quality.  If we go down its trickier - we will be forced to lose the PL quality players.

It's hard to allocate blame exactly but my take is a big chunk to Steve Bruce and the previous regime for building an aging squad with no eye on the future strategy, the next biggest chunk to the situation (doing better than expected and having to move our plans forward), next chunk to Jesus for a less than stellar recruitment campaign (you expect some pluses and minuses buth for me we could have done better), finally DS - I think he has perhaps been a little naive and has had to learn some hard lessons.

I still think we can stay up - a win against Newcastle is vital. If we go down I would stick with Smith who proved to me he had what it took last season

    Just my opinion

We spent a veritable fortune , £150 million plus, on mostly poor players who were no where near being premier standard. WHOEVER sanctioned these transfers MUST go , no question. I hope we survive and even if we do those responsible for this debacle must leave. Most of the players that came in on Smiths watch are virtually worth nothing or damn close to it. As for the 'great' Wesley debate, don't even get me started......

  21. Same old , same old....usual enormous gap between midfield and '( one player ) attack. We were beaten by a far better side today. Here's one for you statisticians....if we get relegated, will Smiths £150 million season spend be a record of money spent for a team relegated?

Watch it again, he is clearly barged over the line by one of our defenders, and yes , he is clearly holding the ball securely to his chest. Just bad luck he was shoved over the line, yes we got lucky here but makes up for the nailed on penalty that the ref. Ignored......

  24. Yes , will probably have to rotate our strikers. Davis started well but looked knackered after 30 minutes and, of course, he is injury prone and does not score many goals......
