  1. When the number of female drivers in grassroots motorsport becomes high enough for actual proper representation I think the main factor holding them back from F1 will be physical strength. Hearing how much Hulkenberg struggled with his neck in Bahrain really highlighted how demanding the sport is. He's driven 100s of races and is 80kg+, if he's struggling (even with two years off) then it will be hard for someone without his physical advantages to cope with.

Definitely not impossible though, I am 100% certain there is a female driver out there today with higher ceiling than what Mazepin showed last season so would be a more worthy holder of that seat.

The Game with Michael Douglas does not get the credit it should.

Underrated actor these days, although he is getting on a bit. Falling Down is also excellent. It's almost a deadpan black comedy.

Child prodigy Juju Noda (16) has been confirmed in the Formula W series this season.  For anyone who hasn't heard of her, she's supposed to be the most talented female driver of her generation and has been competing quite competitively in Danish F4 as a 14 and 15 year old. Having her in FW is quite a coup and will be fun to see how she gets on.  You would think she should be favourite. And is the first 'star' name for that series.

Great name that. I've not seen much of the W Series but a competitive female driver at a high level would be fantastic for motorsport.

On a similar theme "The Ring". Again the Hollywood version.

Better than the Japanese version, which is rare, and genuinely one of the scariest movies I've ever seen

I watched that at my mate's house at about 2am when I was 12. There were 3 of us and we all pretended it wasn't that scary but I legitimately nearly **** myself walking the ~50m home afterwards.

Spoke to one of them about it a few years ago and much to both of our amusements was pleased to learn it scared him even more than it scared me.

I think we'd been lulled into a false sense of security by the fact that most horror films we'd watched up until that point were pretty terrible.

Really fun movie and criminally overlooked IMO.

Although it's a bit weird watching it now because Armie Hammer's in a lead role...

Ah bloody hell, just Googled it. Completely missed that one. Even by celebrity predator standards that's a big yikes.

  6. I am aware that this is not an all time classic, or even a particularly good film but everything visual about The Man from UNCLE just puts me in a good mood every time I watch it.

The locations, the warm colour scheme, the cast, the wardrobe and the vehicles are very aesthetically pleasing. It doesn't take itself too seriously and has enough action to not get boring.

Nowhere near as quotable or funny as most of Ritchie's stuff but weirdly it's probably the one I most enjoy watching.

Talk about diluting your brand - the big German names now are basically middle of the road cars and no longer aspirational

I think the average fleet emissions regulations killed the notion of an entire brand being aspirational about 10 years ago. There is someone near me who has one of those Aston Martin rebadged Toyota iQs.

I'm guessing the most popular models by a distance on your Auto Trader search were the A1 and A3 for Audi. Seems like more than half I see on the road are one or the other, which are essentially the Polo and the Golf with Audi badges.

Seems like VW-Audi Group build and sell a variation from almost every brand in their collection of every new model platform they release these days.

I'm just waiting for them to announce a Lamborghini version of the A6 Avant.

  8. I haven't seen OUATIH but if it's even nearly as bad as Death Proof I'll give it a miss.

It didn't look like my thing but The Shape of Water dominated the Oscars a few years ago so on that basis alone I gave it a shot.

    I shouldn't have bothered.

  9. The best bits of DtS are the behind the scenes sniping from the team principals when something unexpected happens. There were no midseason bombs dropped so S4 was a bit light on content. The only major driver move was Mr Saturday to Merc and we couldn't have any sniping between the people who were involved because it was basically all controlled by Toto.

    Passed my full motorbike test!

I did this a few years ago and haven't ridden one on the road since. I only did it because all the superbike track days require one.

    Worth.

Just the few lessons learning on the roads and the tests were enough to confirm my suspicions that the awareness level of a sizeable portion of UK drivers isn't something I would want to trust my life to.

It's scary enough trusting them from the relative safety of my absolute boat of an A6.

We'll give them those teething problems for race one :)

This response is far too measured. I started sharpening my pitchfork as soon as sectors started going purple at random.

Some of the errors were so bizarre I can only imagine it's a software/UI issue. There was one point where it cut to a midfield battle and the two names that it showed on screen as being in this battle were Kevin Magnussen and err... Kevin Magnussen.

Hopefully they are ironing out the kinks this week. It seemed like the weekend was the first time it had been tested.

Qualy had quite a few errors in it.  But I also don't like the changed visuals of the lefthand tower.  The attempt to make it look slicker by making it black with smaller typeface has made it harder to read. Not hard to read for most, but harder, which will make it awkward for people without perfect eyesight.  I've seen prominent people online commenting that 'simple is sometimes better' making reference to same. But I guess the theory is if we don't change it then we're somehow not progressing, and that's bad mkay.

Spot on, and add the fact that for about 10 laps all running order graphics were removed completely and the only graphic we got was F1 RACE in big letters.

Gee thanks, it's an F1 RACE is it? Didn't realise. Say no more

IMO no chance Merc don't get their car sorted. It's when, not if. And knowing them it'll be pretty quick. So they've got a big headstart on Red Bull while Merc's car is at its weakest. The one thing Hamilton is probably best at is never giving you anything for free. He'll take every point available to him basically every single time. Merc's problem is Ferrari. Hopefully they all get sorted and we have a proper 6 car battle every week.

6 car battle at the front and then an 8 car battle for the formula 1.5 title. The only casualties so far seem to be the Merc customer teams. The McLarens were painful to watch.

Red Bull were top car Vettel wins 4 titles. Then Mercedes is top car and Hamilton wins 6 of 7 titles. The lack of real competition from rivals teams is what that period is remembered for. Not Vettel or Hamilton being drivers clearly a cut above everyone else we have seen in an era ala Senna/Schumi.

Lol are you pretending that Schumacher didn't have the a similarly good car for his 5 titles in a row? The F2004 was one of the most dominant cars of all time and that was with Barichello not Rosberg in the other car.

Senna got less points than Prost in both seasons they had as teammates, not sure why you want to pretend otherwise.

I think it's a aero problem with Merc, the engine has all the power it needs.

Surely it's not an aero problem for all of their customers as well, they're basically all at the back lol.

Would have to be the mother of all coincidences for the issue not to be engine related. If it does have enough power then there is some problem with deploying it.
