2016 wasn't two years ago bud sorry Captain America.

Incorrect. 2020, 2021 and 2022 weren't real years and also some other math.

Really thought we'd signed him when the current regime came in tbh.

  2. Stole him from a smaller academy two years ago for a small fee, paid him small wages for two years and sold him for £20m. I hope all of our academy business goes that well, if it does we'll be able to fund the first team just from that.

Really highlights how far in the bag Leclerc had that race if not for the extra pitstop onto hards.

Binnotto went from telling Crofty live on air that they weren't even worried about Verstappen's pace to pretending after the race that they never had any chance of winning it.

  4. Seems Piastri's contract could be more complicated than just getting whatever Alpine give him. He could go to McLaren with Ric back to Alpine.

Norris and Piastri is a great potential long term line up

Alpine being French, might go big for an all French lineup of Gasly and Ocon and still loan out Piastri.

Maybe, depends on what contract Piastri has signed with them. Gasly is in a very weird position. Long term he'd definitely be best getting out of the RB stable but currently it's hard to find another seat and he's good enough to beat anyone they could put in as his teammate.

With regards to the open Alpine seat I've no idea who's getting it. I did think I could see Mick Schumacher getting given it. Then Gasly to Haas away from Red Bull..... some youth driver into the AT seat. Probably Latifi finally given the hook too freeing up another seat

Piastri is Alpine's reserve driver, the reigning F2 champion and one of the few to win F3 and F2 back to back at the first attempt for each.

The others to do it IIRC are Hamilton, Leclerc and Russell so illustrious company. Its already a big shame he hasn't got a seat this year, if he doesn't get that seat someone will steal him.

Hard to disagree with this imo, except i'd include Sainz in the Ocon /perez group ;)

I didn't even notice Sainz was missing. Mr consistent has sort of become Mr forgettable. Maybe a tad harsh to put him below Norris when they were perfectly evenly matched for multiple seasons in a row.

Yeah, I think that Latifi is gone too if I'm honest. And let's face it he's just not good enough.

And they don't need his money anymore really after the buyout. Could be only Stroll left as a proper pay driver next season.

I know Zhou has some kind of backing but it's not his family it's because he's genuinely quick. I was skeptical of him but he's proved me wrong.

Good news out of this though. Piastri likely gets a chance in a competitive car to show his stuff.

Potentially fantastic news. Latifi stays with Williams to ensure the possibility of a random safety car at all times during all races.

Good that Piastri finally gets a seat but I think Williams might ditch Latifi for someone who is good (probably Sergeant) and make the most of the fact that they are actually in touching distance of the midfield in some races.

IMO Leclerc is just in the band below Lewis and Max, but above Russel, Norris currently. Be interesting to see what people driving lists would be mine currently would be

    Max
    Lewis
    --------------
    Leclerc
    --------------
    Norris
    Alonso
    Russell
    --------------
    Gasly
    Ocon
    Perez
    Vettel
    Riccardo
    Bottas
    ------------
    KMag
    Yuki
    Zhou
    -----------
    Mick
    ----------
    Albon
    ------------
    Latifi
    ------------
Stroll (would be further down if possible)

Latifi is worse than Stroll by a distance imo.

    Max

    Lewis

    Leclerc

    --------------

    Norris

    Alonso

    Russell

    --------------

    Gasly

    Ocon

    Perez

    Vettel

    Bottas

    Albon

    ------------

    Ricciardo

    -----------

    KMag

    Yuki

    Zhou

    Mick

    ------------

    Stroll

    -----------

    Latifi

    ------------

Unthinkable that Ricciardo would be that low just a few seasons ago but here we are.

Yeah I know that, but LeClerc has still bottled several good positions and thrown points away. I think Max or Lewis could do a lot more with that car than Sainz or LeClerc are doing.

Obviously we'll never know. But as bad as Ferrari are I don't think Le Clerc is totally innocent

Leclerc has dropped a few points but he's clearly in the elite group with those two imo. I'm not even sure a lot of the points he's dropped are on him.

For example the spin last week was very similar to the spins the Mercs both had in quali in Austria and the spin Verstappen had this weekend. I think the current generation of cars are vulnerable to sudden snap oversteer when the ground effect gets compromised.

Meanwhile Ferrari have **** up race after race, even a race he won he had to do 10 laps with the accelerator sticking down.

Leclerc hammered Vettel and is hammering Sainz, he's probably the best qualifier on the grid and is very good at overtaking.

I reckon if Lewis, or Max for that matter, were in a ferrari they'd be winning the championship, or at least be in the conversation, even with Ferrari's bizarre strategy calls

No amount of good driving could overcome calls like going on to the hards yesterday. Leclerc even specifically requested mediums and they ignored him.

They are literally the laughing stock of the paddock. Alonso at Ferrari was as good as Max and Hamilton are now and they had a competitive car but all he's got to show for his time there is the thousand yard stare meme.

Max and Lewis laughing about Ferrari picking the hards was a sweet bonding moment. Ferrari so bad they’re repairing relationships

I don't think they ever had too bad of a relationship irl. That moment of them laughing at Ferrari's strategy was great though.

Ferrari are going to finish 3rd in the WCC despite having the fastest car for most races. Legendary buffoonery.

Why have Mexican team Lewis fans got blue Monkey masks on. 😆

I thought they were lucha libre masks. Iirc he had a cameo appearance in a Mexican wrestling event before the GP there one year.

  16. Reading through the start of this thread I didn't notice its age at first and my suspicion wasn't raised after seeing that there was predictions of fusion ignition being less than two years away.

Turns out the thread is 8 years old and fusion ignition is just going to be perpetually two years away for ever.  Kind of disheartening.

I know this because a lad in my year at school decided to enter himself into a talent show lip syncing to this song and it was so excruciating that it has become a core memory.

He held a fake mic so you couldn't even see his lips.

What you mean he didn't crash. He only has a drive because of his name and  the sponsors money.

Probably true but he did win the F2 title and has beaten Magnussen on pure pace today. He got a helping hand to get there but he's no pay driver.

    The mad bit, once more.

5 cars from 5 different constructors separated by about 1 second with about 5 overtakes over the course of 1 lap.

It's like go karting at 180mph, the stuff we've all dreamed of.

The bizarre hatred and/or love for certain drivers in this thread aside, I feel like this clip encapsulates what is so great about the new regulations and the reason why I fangirl over only one person in F1 at the moment; Ross Brawn.
