I'll be honest I hate the whole captain thing and wished they'd drop it.

Yeah me too tbh, especially seasons like this where one player has about 70% more points than everyone else.

I remember in the season when Ronaldo scored 30+ one of my cash mini leagues had a no captaining Ronaldo rule. Hurt everyone's OR but was by far the most interesting ML that season.

  2. Cancelo captain has made my week look good. Live rank up to 19k and the 3 Liverpool players still to go. Obviously a Salah haul would crash me back down the rankings

Edit - LiveFPL actually has me top of the league but there is a bit of a pattern with everyone else's captain.

Would be a nice time for him to end his 15 game run of returns

That’s exactly what I imagined his gf would look like

Fun mildly topical fact: It was her brother who crashed on purpose in Singapore 08 to cause a safety car (to help his teammate Alonso (who had fresh tyres) by bunching up the pack) in the infamous crashgate. Alonso went on to win the race.

Then when he was released by Renault he leaked the entire plan and got their team principal Briatore banned from F1.

I can't imagine the drama if Latifi comes out with similar claims but seeing as he is the son of a billionaire I can't see what his motivation would be... Unless he ends up in a red bull seat

    Edit - It was 08

  4. I would not criticize anyone for skipping the gala. It's an absolute s**tshow every year.

Watching it "live" it seemed like they were making it up as they went along, which is oddly fitting this year.

Turns out their "live" stream was actually delayed by over two hours and they still hadn't managed to edit it to seem anything near professional.

The only redeeming feature every year is the mildly amusing winners speeches and interviews. Kimi got absolutely rat arsed the last time he made top 3.

  5. Took a -8 but ended up with 11 playing and 75 points so despite Bilva being a net -3, still an above average week for me in the end.

I've got 10 for the weekend (currently) if you include yellow flagged players and enough in the bank to do something stupid with 3 minutes left if there aren't any more noises about games getting cancelled

  6. Mings and Konsa have different roles, especially when we have the ball. Mings sees a lot of the ball, tries to break lines by dribbling and passing, Konsa doesn't really get involved at all.

Here's a pass map from last game, really shows the difference.

I think people get a certain idea into their heads about a player and then just look out for things that confirm that idea

Confirmation bias heuristics like this are incredibly pervasive and difficult to avoid using (even if you're aware of them and actively try to avoid using them) especially when trying to assess something as complicated as a footballer's overall performance.

Brains are lazy and want the easiest route to a conclusion of any thought, that's why the idea Mings makes too many errors, Watkins too often can't control the ball, Buendia gives it away too often etc. have been able to take root.

Once the brain is primed with these ideas after reading them, it only needs one instance of this happening to be satisfied with this conclusion. In reality, without comparing their stats to the baseline of similar players playing a similar role it's impossible to know how good these players really are at any of these things.

But reducing every player and every action to a percentile of where they sit in the grand scheme of things is boring, thankfully fbref does a reasonable job of it for us.

Wait till I show you this video of a guy called Tonev.

Those videos were from before he joined us though, the equivalent video for Buendia would be about 3 hours long, this is just from the <10 games worth of minutes he's played for Villa so far.

I would actually love to see a highlight video of Tonev's time at Villa. I hope it includes the corners that went directly out of play with both feet

  9. I wouldn't be surprised if they shuffled Masi to a different position. It's a very easy PR win for the FIA and it wouldn't be hard to pick someone better. Eduardo Freitas is the WEC race director and I only watch about 2 races a year but he has always seemed highly respected. He was also on the race control team his home race in Portimao last season.

Marcelo Bielsa on the Covid situation:

"I wouldn't like to come up against a team who has their team depleted because of Covid, I wouldn't want to take advantage of that."

says the man who literally sent spies to training grounds!!

He doesn't want an unfair advantage handed to him by pure luck, he wants to engineer the unfair advantage himself through underhanded means.

    It's how he gets off.

Bigotry aside (I know, risky way to start a post), I really don't get the mentality of parents who think they have a right to have a say on who their adult children have a relationship with. I can understand not *liking* them for one of any number of reasons, including being a throbbing bigot, but at worst I could imagine voicing concerns and then letting them make their own decision. Throwing your kid out of the house though? It seems to happen all too often and I just can't understand it.

The older I get the more I realise that when it comes to the unconditional love parents have for their children there is a dismaying portion of the population for whom the 'un' is silent.

The official shafted them, it happens, time to move on.

They'll move on from the WDC loss but both Mr and Mrs Wolff seem to be going full steam ahead with trying to get Masi the boot.

Foden and Watkins in at the last minute last night for a -4, paid off very nicely.

Somehow coming through this Covid period in a strong position... but there's plenty of time for that to change yet.

Antonio now coming in for King with the Watford game postponed.

Bloody hell, Antonio on the bench is some serious squad depth especially considering the are postponements. I was pleased I was getting Billy Gilmour's 2 points.
