Sweden national side really is an absolute mess thanks in no small part to Janne Andersson who keeps picking players who are not playing in their club sides and who rates seniority over anything else.

Is Janne Andersson the Swedish translation of Martin O’Neill?

I know it's a very minor point but I love that he finally got to avenge that game from 2010 under Houllier when we went 2-0 up (and which he scored in) only to throw it away to Federico **** Macheda (again) and draw 2-2.

What a career he went on to have…

It’s fashionable to hate on Mings. I don’t know why, but you ask any fan of another club and they’ll tell you he’s shite.

It’s all very odd. Look, he makes a mistake every now and again, but for the most part he’s f***** superb. I don’t think there are many better defenders in the PL than him on his day.

If he didn’t make any mistakes, he’d be at a top club, without doubt, but right now, he’s our best defender and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

It’s as a result of the how football is watched these days. Most fans watch full games of their own team, and whatever click-oriented highlights social media spits out of every other team. This coupled with those god awful football banter/GOAT accounts like Football Bible and so on looking for clicks.

Clicks are generated by moments that people will watch. This results in Mings been known for that Ibrahimovic stamp and high profile mistakes. They don’t see the other 99% of the minutes he has played where he has been a very competent defender who is in no way dirty.

It’s Dejan Lovren syndrome. 99% of the time a perfectly competent sometimes unbeatable CB but his errors/brain farts are what he’s remembered for by most football fans.

Two 4-0 results, it's a mixed bag. It's a big job and he knew it going in. Let him get on with his job before we lose our shit about players or whatnot

I think we’re somewhere in between this week and last week.

He comes across as an absolute gentleman, and I think we have been blessed to get him.

Also, he does look a bit like a slightly deceased Austrian pop star from the 80s.

    See the source image

    Can you be slightly deceased?

I've got an old leather jacket in my wardrobe, maybe I should wear it out on Saturday evening......

As long as you pull a ball of £100 notes out of it you should get on alright

True. I'm looking forward to the Sporting vs Spurs match on Wednesday. See how he sets up tactically against a much better group of players in London

Why wait? Go watch the game that was played a few weeks back.

Newcastle I think had 8k child season tickets for a quid a go or something daft like that .

I wouldn’t be opposed to that to be honest. Make them feel part of something from a young age.

And also, much like the Catholic Church opposing contraception. You’ve got to keep one eye on future revenue streams.

We’d have to give away free tickets like they do/used to do up at Sunderland to fill the ground if capacity was too big. I think we’d struggle to hit 60k even if we broke into top 4 . It was only the other week posters were saying cancel plans for the ground extension because we won’t keep filling 41k.  I think  Newcastle used to or still do give thousands of tickets out to kids for free. 50k is more than enough for now and I can’t see that changing in all honesty unless something drastically exciting happens.

Free tickets for kids is not a bad idea actually. Regardless of capacity.

EDIT: I mean a limited number of free tickets.

is Emery not mostly a defensive/counter attacking type manager?

Is that what you guys would be happy with?

Emery is pragmatic, and I mean that in the literal sense of the word, not the football sense (defensive minded). That is to say he will play a system that plays to the strengths of the squad and tries to exploit the weaknesses of the opposition. He won’t cede control to the likes of Forest or Fulham. He will however, look to contain, shut up shop and play on the break against the likes of City.

  11. As Emery and Amorim are the two main links at the moment, the appointment will be an indication of what will happen with Phil. I think that Emery would be the one who could make him effective again and could put a system in place to play to his strengths.

Amorim comes in and Coutinho is done. He relies on running and pressing. Phil wouldn’t survive in that style and if we play him in such a style he will be the undoubted weak link.

Wasn't Hansi-Flick the brains behind the operation?

And Löw was considered the brains behind the Klinsmann operation who started the turnaround in fortunes of the German national team in the mid 2000’s. Löw was very good for Germany until he tried to reinvent everything around 2016 or so.

He has been out of club football for a very long time though. He’d be a massive gamble. I’d be more for a low risk appointment this time round.

i imagine it was his idea for the pen too

young picks the ball up as if he's taking it, so he's the one that gets surrounded by the brentford players playing their mind games, then right at the last minute hands the ball to ings

such a simple idea, but that's why you have a specialist at the club to think of these things

Chelsea did that in the club World Cup last season. Azpilicueta picked up the ball, got hounded by the Palmeiras players, the ref settled things down, Azpilicueta hands the ball to Havertz abd he doesn’t have to deal with any of the shit.
