I am a bit young to remember but Swinkels seems genuinely 2 footed. Left and right footed 40 yard passes found their target nearly every time
Chris Nicholl. That's who he runs like.

I believe the full game will be available Saturday on club site.
I've seen Sat May 29 ok 7.00 for the Final - not sure how accurate that is.
Anyone else reminded of a great Villa centre half from the mid 70's when they see Swinkels ?

Arjun Raikhy is being mentored by Neil Taylor - who has a Bengali mother.
And I agree - he is an excellent all round player

It's funny, but I was reading an interview with John Gidman and he was remenicising about his time with the Villa. He mentioned a game against Man United in the Central League and George Best happened to be playing for Utd. Gidman couldn't believe when he walked out the tunnel to see a packed Villa Park.
Incidentally, if Kesler is half as good as Gidman, then, trust me, we have some player on our hands.
Could not agree more re Gidman - attack or defence - no problem.

Puts me in mind of the HK sevens a few years back
Johansson ( now with Rotherham) went off injured at HT in the semi. Only GK in the squad
Mitch Clark played 2nd half - and all the Final in goal.
We won it all.

I haven't watched any of the ladies games - but I would agree and go further. The gap between the divisions is matched by the gap between the Top 4 and the rest of the division.
2nd 10pts ahead of 3rd & 4th who are 7 pts ahead of 5th.
The only close positions are at the bottom.

The problem with Indy is that no-one really knows his best position. He is NOT a out and out striker - more of an attacking MF - possibly playing wide as a winger.
I think he has to come to terms with the fact that he is not top class - and possibly more important for him, he has been overtaken in the USMNT pecking order for players of his age group.
Sad.

4th round games don't finish until Apr 3
Surprising they haven’t speeded them up - the 4th round was scheduled to complete Jan 18 with Final by Apr 25. still have 5th/6th/SF to get through

@BOF I've seen 23/4 as a birthday for Ruben Shakpoke - and when we signed him in Oct 2020, he was supposed to be 16. Wouldnt that mean he was still 16 - too young for a pro contract ??

Don't think it was played at BMH - due lockdown. Hnec no cameras

Onodi - really impressive first performance, he's 20, i wonder if he would benefit from a loan for development?
He's No. 2 GK in the Academy - and we have 2 more following him - so you may be right. Our best young GK is Viljami Sinisalo - on loan at Ayr Utd. Onl;u 19 - and already 6'3"

Sadly a bit late for John White I think.
Of course - I remember the right headline (for the 2-0 defeat in 1962) but the wrong match

One of my favourite ever Villa games that one Mike. Southampton were a decent 1st Division team back then, having finished 7th the season before and with Mick Channon, Terry Paine, Ron Davies and Jimmy Gabriel in the side we beat in front of 59,084 of us, having earned the replay with a 2-2 draw at the Dell. You are 100% correct on the impact his appointment had on the fans. My memory of that was the Boxing Day game with Cardiff and looking around at the 41,250 crowd in the realisation that he had awoken the slumbering lion (our highest gate prior to that had been 20,937 for the first home game of that season).
We had beaten QPR in front of 39,854 before that in the 3rd Round and it took a Spurs team containing the likes of Jennings, England, Venables, Mullery, Gilzean and Jimmy Greaves (who scored two) to knock us out 2-3 at White Hart Lane in the 5th Round.
1. Strangely, the 4 managers who has the worst win ratio over at least a season in the Ellis+ era were all Scottish - Tommy, McNeil, McLeish & Lambert.
2. Undoubtedly, Tommy - although ultimately unsuccessful on the field - did indeed seem to ignite the club (and the fans) from a collective slumber.
3. That Spurs team also included theexcellent Scottish inside forward John White - hence the Argus headline "WHITE makes it HARTbreak LANE"

Ok - I've read the thread - great time.....about time we saw this guy.
One Villa Legend - not because of longevity - in fact the opposite. But possibly, the best CF I ever saw play for us. And the only ex-coal miner to have a section in the Inter Milan museum
I wont post the link here - but you can search YT for "England 8 Mexico 0 1961" and see Gerry's debut.
He never left Italy as a player - retired there. It is easy to see that he loved the Italian lifestyle - Went to '62 WC and took 19 Italian suits with him.
