  1. Interesting, I'm starting to think the Cortese rumours might even be true, especially with Lerner's jet seeminly being in Italy recently.

Although in reality I'm not sure of how a good an appointment he'd be, I'm sure a lot of Southampton's success has to be down the owner's Billions and their excellent youth system.

Trust me Cortese will not be the next CEO.

Why are you so certain about that? Opinion?

Because Cortese strikes me as very ambitious and successful business man.

  2. Not sure why Lambert hasn't gone for a talent like Hakim Ziyech of Heerenveen, he is out of contract soon as well!!

Assisted 12 last season in his first full season at Heerenveen and scored 10 from attacking midfield.

Price is apparently around the £2.5mil mark

    Has anybody gone for him?

  4. The European Youth Comps are a joke. Nextgen started out with a good idea which was taking off using the best academies then UEFA decided it was a good idea and wrecked it by using a CL shadow comp it seems now it's the Premier. Leagues turn to have a go!! I wouldn't read to much into it as our academy is still ranked in the top few around Europe we just need to turn out some world class players instead of just decent premier league players.

Can I ask by whom and where our academy is ranked amongst the best in Europe ?

Fans who need to take their c&b specs off.
Off the villa site but I'd say it's genuine..

    And from an independent site..

Look at the date. A lot can change in 2 years.

  5. There's a few on here that are putting emotional consciousness into animals. It doesn't work that way. These animals are born, eat, defecate and sleep and are then uncruelly bolted. There is no drama, no emotion, just pure instinct.

We've eaten meat since day 1, we will continue to do so until the day humans cease to exist.

I understand that there are exceptions to the uncruel killing, but they make up a tiny proportion.

We harvest meat because it meant we didn't have to hunter-gather anymore. Why walk hundreds of miles when you can slap a fence round a herd of buffalo right?

Farming meat and settling populations enabled humans to create things, like tools etc. You think we'd have any usable metal wondering around the plains?

I know you know this, and vegetarianism is a choice, just like carnivorism. But to not have meat on the basis that you've saved a life, or won't eat a burger because it's processed, is very strange.

    You haven't saved anything.

The right attitude to vegetarianism is ingram, on the basis that not eating meat is healthy -for him.

It would be nice to be able to eat healthier meat though. Does anybody know if there is much difference with organic meat taste and health wise to justify the extortionate cost?

  6. Please do. There's nothing wrong with mentioning a 'cheeky' bid, loan or transfer. If you don't ask, you don't get.

You don't get anyway. In a market where Borini is worth £14m and Rodwell is going for £10m, nobody is going to be giving players away for **** all.

Lallana and Toni Kroos are apparently the same value…...
I see your point as Kroos is obviously a lot more high profile but in terms of ability, what makes him so much better than Lallana? Plus throw in the fact he has no Premier League experience whereas Lallana was one of the stand out players for two seasons.
  7. What about only eating animals that would eat you if they had the chance?

    Is that a good philosophy?

Not really. Tony may be able to comment on this, but I believe the general rule is that herbivore meat mostly tastes good, and carnivore meat bad.

    You clearly never had human.

  8. Good post Mj. It's the uproar about the cruelty of Halal meat that makes me life. Have these people not seen what happens in slaughter houses?!

I would be nice to catch your own animal and kill it in a humane way to then cook and prep on an open fire.

Something that is practised by some Sikhs I might add.

  9. Didn't meat help us evolve? or is that just a theory? by cooking the meat, they were able to get more of the nutrients out of the meat instead of eating it raw, which in turn led to growth? our ancestors.

Meat in the diet helped us wean babies earlier, which meant the mother could get knocked up sooner which means a larger population. That lead to our species thriving and to a certain extent evolving. I think.

Plus protein and Iron helps women concieve.

I saw earlier that Derby have got a Real Madrid player on loan. Now, I don't have a clue whether he's the next big flop to come from Spain, or whether he is a promising player that could have maybe made an impression at a Lower Prem team, but Derby wouldn't have got that loan if they didn't ask.

A Madrid youth player, not established internationals on £60k-£80k a week like mentioned before.

Just because he plays for RM doesn't mean he is anything special either, so I see no big deal in Derby signing him.

The players mentioned here were Milner, Moses etc... ,they will not be coming here, we will not pay those wages and City and Chelsea are not going to loan them to us for nothing, no matter how cheeky the bid is.

People need to get into the real **** world.

Get in the **** real world? The 'cheeky' loans mentioned a few pages ago, we're Milner, Javi Garcia, Abou Diaby, Capoue or 'other fringe players'. It's not that unrealistic to think we, or another lower Prem club, could get one of them loan. Even if our wage structure leaves a lot to be desired, I'm sure Lerner would still let Lambert spend around £40k/£50k p/w on a player if he believed it would help secure our Premier League status for a season.

Apparently he hasn't with Ki. Not that we know what the wages are.

The above players mentioned are good players. Even if we try to loan them and were prepared to pay the wages, I doubt we will be the only club interested and the most attractive offer for them.

Those players are all unrealistic for us I'm afraid.

    Probably Gerrard Houllier
Reading this ^^ post made me wonder how people on here would now feel if Lerner sold the club to Red Bull?

I'm not suggesting for one second that he would sell to them or, that they are interested. Just wondering if people against that idea have had a change of heart with no other apparent buyers interested in us.

I've always preferred to have red bull take us over if it means Lerner gone. The alternative is eventual Championship football or worse.

But at least we'll still be playing in claret and blue at Villa Park.

  12. This one is dead in the water I'm afraid folks.

I fully expected this deal to happen last week despite the lack of speculation on it as things were seemingly agreed with Swansea but we couldn't meet the players wage demands. Not that they were excessive by PL standards or that they should be out of our reach but that is the major obstacle for Lambert with this or any signing.

We still need a another midfielder in my view so back to the drawing board I guess.

I wonder what his demands were and how it compared to other higher earners at the Club. I don't think Lerner (or whoever is employed to make these decisions) has learnt anything from the past two seasons and seriously thinks we'll be fine without further investment. Just another example of how detached he has come from the club and probably English football altogether in my opinion.

Edit: or this is type of restriction unavoidable when a business is up for sale?

  13. 5 ways leisure park has sold for £35m

not a clue what they plan on doing but thats gatecrasher, cineworld, the gym, nandos and the casino, probably the busiest bit of broad street so im not sure how you develop it, hope the cinema doesnt go

35M for all that? That seems very cheap.

  14. What the hell have all the CEO's at the club done for the past 8 years? Makes no difference who is employed.

Dunno an enterprising CEO could make the world of difference - what we need is someone who can grow the club, land big sponsorship deals, recruit good managers. What we have had over the past few years is what i call "bean counters" - they work within the current financial constraints and have no vision how to make the club grow.

would love Graham Taylor as CEO

A CEO of the calibre you speak of will know the task is impossible under the financial restrictions imposed by the owner as well as UEFA.
