  1. It's interesting to me in these games that the PL manager is pretty much doomed to criticism Critics will find fault.

    1) Start the best team = critics will complain that it wasted the chance to develop some of the fringe players

    2) Start the fringe players = critics will complain that it wasted the chance to solidify the understanding between the starters.

I guess that's just part of the job. But managers are still human. That's why I would guess that most find some blend of the starters with some reserves sprinkled in.

    given

    lowton - clark - baker - stevens

    sanchez

    bacuna - westwood - delph - grealish

    weimann

    That team would probably lose.
Clearly I disagree with your conclusion (wouldn't be much point in suggesting a losing side). But I would like to hear your reasons, not just your pronouncement.
Because the back four would get terribly exposed against a team that will keep putting the ball in to the box,

Fair enough. But I'll disagree. Clark and Baker have weaknesses to be sure. But I think they should be able to manage the LO threat. They sort of managed a number of BPL teams last year. I also think Sanchez will help protect them from through balls on the ground. Balls from the wings should be covered with 4 in the midfield tracking back. I do get your point though. thanks for explaining.

    Isn't Okore fit?

  4. Just watching them on MOTD2. Apart from the front 3 and goalkeeper I wouldn't want any of their starting 11 in our team. Not good enough.

I'm absolutely loving how bad they are. Long may it continue.

It wont last. United are throwing money at the problem and it will probably turn out ok for them in the end. I can see another couple of seasons of them being out of the title race but before we know it they will be back at the top.

I said a few years ago they would eventually be left behind by Chelsea and City. While the others were spending ridiculous sums every year Man U were adding one or two players and spending nowhere near as much.

The result now is way to much of a rebuild needed in one go.

  5. Since you brits bring it up. The hardest thing for me to adjust to, in the BPL, is the fans. In US sports, including pro-sports, fans virtually NEVER hate or vehemently criticize any player on the team, and rarely ever the coach. It just doesn't happen. If you hate your team and it's players and coach so badly, you just pick a new team.

I think the closest a pro team in the states came was the new orleans saints - NFL, They did so horribly badly for so many years that the fans started to wear brown paper bags over their heads to games. The fans were ashamed of their team. But even then there was no rage or venom aimed at any player. It's just not done.

Many British fans, or at least the on-line ones. Appear to be different. It's OK to loathe your own team's players. It took me a long time to learn (and some sidebar discussions with a few of the most critical) to learn that the critical fans that seem to despise players on the team are motivated by wanting the team to do better. In the states if you want the team to do better, you backing the players, hoping that confidence will help. When a receiver drops a pass he should have caught you yell, say, or post. "he'll get it next time." Not "oh, FFS, get him out of this club. He'll never be good enough for this league." Now, if a player leaves... then it's fair game to say "he was never any good anyway, glad to have somebody else is in there." But never while he's still your player. At least that's the reality in "the wrong birmingham."

I think fans do tend to find a scapegoat that can do nothing right unless becomes the best player on the pitch every week.

Examples are Hutton, Petrov, Bannan, and the latest one is Gabby.

  6. You look only at the action, hence - the person travelling to Syria or Iraq. Mind you this will make a huge problem when they'll return. For some reason, they never use their knowledge and experience to help the local police...

But I speak of the ideas. If I read that the laws of Shari'a are to become an integral part of the British judicial system - I am deeply disturbed. Not because it's Islam - but because it gives a foothold to a line of thought which sees women as inferior to men. In Britain. This is unbelievable! To add to that, I see a report in the Guardian about Sainsbury (which I assume is a chain of Supermarkets) removing Kosher food just not to get someone angry (not to mention these products are not made in Israel...) or that school teachers don't teach of the holocaust as they are afraid it will offend Muslims (why would it offend anyone?!) - it all comes together to a major change which slowly allows the radical Islam to become dominant. You could see what's going on in France in recent years. If someone here has visited Malmo, Sweden, in recent times - they can also throw in their ideas of the situation. Europe is an advanced and liberal continent, having learned what's good for them over centuries of constant wars and deaths. Now, when peaceful times arrive - the Europeans should keep their progressive ideas alive instead of letting in ideas more fitting to medieval time...

What's the alternative? Piss Muslims off and lose their vote?

I remember once I went in to an Indian restaurant in a predominantly white area and asked the waiter if the meat was halal. He quickly responded yes sir. I got up and walked out. He never saw that coming!

  7. But he is no longer that player is he? The last time he was half decent was 3 seasons ago. Yes he only gets a few minutes here and there so it's hard to judge but he looks totally off the pace. Lambert must see this in training and also see that starting him could potentially reduce us to 10 men for a half.

How can we tell that unless he is actually give a chance?

With the top two currently performing so poorly what is the harm in giving a player a chance for more than 15 minutes to show what he can offer?

A defeat maybe? Every point is crucial.

I see where you are coming from but for Lambert not to play him when Gabby and Weimann can't score then there must be something not right with him.

  8. After seeing Andi and Gabby for two games, I have to agree that Darren deserves a game, not just ten minutes.

Hoe can you deserve a game because others are playing bad? Does this mean if Vlaar has a couple of bad games we should chuck in Baker?
If Vlaar has a couple of bad games, we have Baker or Clarke, a pretty scary option. If Gabby or Weiman have the same we have a proven goalscorer with over a hundred premiership goals. Hardly the same scenario. At the moment Weiman is playing poorly , Gabby has been awful for a long time. Bent is absolutely worth persevering with, at least until Benteke returns.

  9. I'm disappointed in lambert today for not setting up differently, we shouldn't be set up the same at home as we are away, away it works (sometimes) but he's not going to win over the fans playing like this at home

Maybe once all personnel are fit and available he'll mix it up more

He is probably just so scared of losing. I thought the way we set up was ok if we looked for that final ball to full backs more. Hutton and Cissokho were always in acres but the wrong pass kept being made.

  11. EPOC?

I thought HIT on an empty stomach uses fat scores for energy?

EPOC is excess post exercise oxygen consumption. In the fat burning context its basically the elevation of your BMR for a period after intense exercise. Eating before HIT increases the size of this elevation.

HIT in a fasted state not only results in lower EPOC, it also hinders your performance when doing the exercise.

But wouldn't the majority of calories burned be just the carbs from the food you ate? I'm just thinking from a purely fat loss perspective?

I mean how much food are we talking, what type and how long before a session of let says 20 min sprints?
