Having a somewhat socially considered viewpoint and being viewed as an assumed Labor (UK) or similar voter makes one an immediate "Leftist/Leftie" and some how unwashed.

Not being consistently hateful isn't a bad thing and the irony of the "woke" casting net, is that it already suggests a level of being asleep to society at large.

Add to that 'champagne socialists' and 'politics of envy' then you start to realise they just don't think anyone has the right to vote in the interests of wider society.

Part of the reason I packed in property is I got sick of babysitting the mentally stunted and poorly read offspring of the inherited wealth upper middle classes. I almost quit my last job on day 1 when a senior colleague accused a guy's scarf of being "a bit woke". It's a shame really as a few were clearly inherently decent, they had just lived such insular lives that they couldn't understand most big issues.

I think I heard Badenoch saying something along the lines of public services are failing because they waste millions money on paying someone in a position like looking after staff well being instead of just getting on with the job.

She really is a nasty **** witch isn’t she. Stressed staff don’t need support they just need to get on with things.

Speaking from experience I reckon they'd love some of the civil service HR if they realised what spiteful, inflexible words removed they can be.

Look at Boris. Most kept quiet until it was a certainty he was off and then the knives came out. Same for the leadership. Ideally you want to back the winner so just keep your powder dry. Better chance of getting on the gravy train that way. It is certainly nothing to do with  gut conviction or political philosophy.

I guess the public supporters get the top jobs and all the fence sitters get minor ministerial roles. Declare for someone first and maybe you get chancellor, but you could miss out altogether if they lose.

I didn't have a clue just how many jobs there are before the last few weeks.

Truss appears to be over the 20 line now

Guido Fawkes has it as Sunak (46), Mordaunt (27) Truss (22), Tugendhat (20), Badenoch (18), Zahawi and Hunt (14), Javid and Braverman (both 12) and that other bloke (0)

The Telegraph has Tugendhat on 21 fwiw

Thats 185 MPs  out of a total of 358, so there's lots of hand sitting still going on

Anyone know when the deadline is?

Is it normal for a big chunk to stay neutral just in case they ruin their chance of a ministerial job?

  5. Was due to air tonight, but it looks like it has been pushed back after the Uber stuff came out.

The really sad thing for me is I know a number of people who are/were very senior in the forces and they would want no stone left unturned if there was a hint of this going on, yet these idiots online think it's sacrilege to hold anything British to account.

SAS unit repeatedly killed Afghan detainees, BBC finds

    Quote

SAS operatives in Afghanistan repeatedly killed detainees and unarmed men in suspicious circumstances, according to a BBC investigation.

Newly obtained military reports suggest that one unit may have unlawfully killed 54 people in one six-month tour.

The BBC found evidence suggesting the former head of special forces failed to pass on evidence to a murder inquiry.

The Ministry of Defence said British troops "served with courage and professionalism in Afghanistan".

The BBC understands that General Sir Mark Carleton-Smith, the former head of UK Special Forces, was briefed about the alleged unlawful killings but did not pass on the evidence to the Royal Military Police, even after the RMP began a murder investigation into the SAS squadron.

General Carleton-Smith, who went on to become head of the Army before stepping down last month, declined to comment for this story.

BBC Panorama analysed hundreds of pages of SAS operational accounts, including reports covering more than a dozen "kill or capture" raids carried out by one SAS squadron in Helmand in 2010/11.

Individuals who served with the SAS squadron on that deployment told the BBC they witnessed the SAS operatives kill unarmed people during night raids.

They also said they saw the operatives using so-called "drop weapons" - AK-47s planted at a scene to justify the killing of an unarmed person.

Several people who served with special forces said that SAS squadrons were competing with each other to get the most kills, and that the squadron scrutinised by the BBC was trying to achieve a higher body count than the one it had replaced.

Internal emails show that officers at the highest levels of special forces were aware there was concern over possible unlawful killings, but failed to report the suspicions to military police despite a legal obligation to do so.

The Ministry of Defence said it could not comment on specific allegations, but that declining to comment should not be taken as acceptance of the allegations' factual accuracy.

An MOD spokesperson said that British forces "served with courage and professionalism" in Afghanistan and were held to the "highest standards".

I did collect some of the more ridiculous replies to post and my phone decided to wipe them, so I can't really be bothered to try again. Just take a scroll through. It's quite hard to tell people from bot from parody.

Aaron Ramsey's contract actually expires before Chukwuemeka's.

Are you sure? Seems weird considering all summer contracts appear to end 30th June and he only signed his first pro deal last year. Surely you aren't suggesting it ends in January? There is so little detail online about his contract I'm interested to know where you got this info.

edit - transfermrkt suggests we have an option to extend it to 2024, although they've already stitched me up once this week so I don't know if I can trust them.

  8. I was thinking the other day it's weird that the Ripley book series haven't been adapted into tv after the various attempts at movie adaptations.

It turns out there is one in production that will be airing this year with Andrew Scott as Ripley. I really hope they get it right as he has a lot of potential in the role, although is a touch old for series 1!

If anything , now, we are the one actually poaching " prodigal" talents from other teams.

That being said, it's inevitable that some will be lost, for one reason or another.

Even bigger clubs lose talents for different reasons, it is what it is.

You just have to try your best to find a balance.

Prodigious?! Prodigal means you piss money away, which I guess most of these players would do too.

Unfortunately it is just the way of things. I'm sure we didn't give Northampton a 2nd thought when we poached him from their academy.

But he loses value then, if he’s triaging with first team all year, even if he leaves the tribunal fee will increase.

Tribunal fees to European clubs are derisory anyway, hence why West Brom fans were so mad when we got Barry because they saw it as a cheap workaround...and Barca never even paid them the small tribunal fee did they?

Argyle!!! Amazing, cannot wait to see him at home park. He will tear it up, absolutely delighted to have the Devon/Villa link.

We've got quite a few now, mostly joining us after having been at Exeter. Then of course we have Tyrone Mings from the right side of the border.

Does that make me ITK...no but at least my sister got most of the info right utv!

I feel like most of these 'ITK' tweeters just rip from forums to add some credibility with a large part of the online fanbase to generate as much engagement as possible.

Is your sister the agent that told you?

Random thought I was having earlier.

I notice few Tories - vocal ones at least - on forums. Here, or reddit, for example.

Assuming that's the case, is that possibly because people who use forums lean towards valuing researched opinions, knowledge, logic, good faith discussions based on evidence.... things which generally lead people away from right wing ideology

....same why intellectuals and academics generally tend to lean to the left also?

Or is that just really patronising

They pop up now and again when there isn't quite so much unforgiveable behaviour to have to justify or ignore. There's still not normally that much substance, just a flippant remark about 'lefties' being unwashed and jobless.

Sunbathing pics on social media that are essentially just a picture of someone's feet on a sun lounger.

**** off, I don't want to look at your mangy toes whiles I'm eating my sandwich and scrolling.

I agree that feet ruin it. Completely rules it out for Hot Dogs or Legs.

It's like people were expecting us to sign Ferland Mendy as a back up left back or something.

I think it's more that a back up left back on loan just isn't particularly exciting, however sensible a signing.

I don't remember anyone going mad with excitement when Olsen signed on loan in January either.

  16. As someone else alluded to before, one of the things that has impressed me most about Digne is how willingly he has bought into the club and seemingly instantly become an influential figure in the squad.
