I’ve been listening to a podcast called Real Dictators and they were talking briefly about Gavrilo Princip. If you don’t know who that is, he is the guy that shot Archduke Franz Ferdinand which is broadly accepted as the match that lit World War I.

Granted everyone was looking for an excuse to kill the each other anyway, but it just occurred to me that the man that arguably triggered one of the deadliest conflicts in human history just isn’t a known name.

Because there’s a break in Villa football and winter is boring, I was wondering what snippets people can offer up as people who are significant / ought on paper to be really well known by name but just aren’t.

edit: title amended due to controversy and furious anger

love that podcast. it is quite informative and goes well.

Jeremy Bentham. Was born in 1748 and was a leading theorist in Anglo-American philosophy of law, and a political radical whose ideas influenced the development of welfarism.

He advocated individual and economic freedoms, the separation of church and state, freedom of expression, equal rights for women, the right to divorce, and (in an unpublished essay) the decriminalising of homosexual acts. He called for the abolition of slavery, capital punishment, and physical punishment, including that of children. He has also become known as an early advocate of animal rights.

Hundreds of years ahead of his time and did a lot of good.

Learned about him in my economics courses. Very interesting man and one of the main men behind classical liberalism.

I'm hoping it's not the case but that's what that particular poll showed, which @Seat68 thinks was seemingly Dem funded. Unless of course it could be to try and motivate their base to vote?

And while I don't see many voters switching sides from the last election there is a chance that some stay home which the Democrats can't afford.

One thing I did read is that a lot of youth don't like Biden's actions and stance on the Israel/Palestine conflict.

Saw a recent poll saying Biden is hemorrhaging support from the under 35s and the Hispanic community. Seems to be behind in most polls v Trump now.

Yup, this is the thing. Biden has become wildly unpopular with folks under the age of 35 because he is very central and the demographics have shifted way to the left.

Or they are not going to vote for either

I'd say this is most likely. I am in this demographic and will probably not vote for either Trump or Biden.

Jorge Mendes is pimping out Gio Reyna to find a new club for him. We are one of the clubs that's supposed to be interested. Amazing the guy is still only 21.

would be a good addition imo. Very good talent, still only 21 and provides a lot of versatility (on the wing or as support for a striker). Would also be a good thing for marketing purposes esp with the next World Cup coming up in the states. Only downside is that he has been injury prone

Can someone explain to me why, as Biden won the election last time out, and then the madness of the insurrection unfolded, would MORE people now vote for Trump than voted for Biden last time?

Biden's age (unfit for office), Biden being corrupt (Hunter and that whole thing), Jan 6 being a false flag event (the deep state/FBI/CIA is behind it), financial state (interest rates, people not being better off than they were before Biden), Russia/Ukraine & the situation in the middle east, the border & immigration, the "system" is rigged against him / republicans.

So random it’s almost got to be true. Playing for Red Star at 17 as a starting right back is some achievement. Must be highly rated.

  6. the yellow for Tarkowski was also pathetic. (NB: i'm not saying the challenge was, because I think that's a foul. But Coote didn't call a foul and Tarkowski wasn't really involved in the melee afterwards)

He definitely deserved at least a yellow for some of the challenges throughout the game

  7. as @The_Steveposted in another thread, the situation with Reading is extremely dire. Today, fans stormed the pitch and caused the match to be abandoned.

They were in a similar situation to us when we had Xia, but they haven't been able to get sold.

The EFL isn’t fit for purpose. Very sad to see more shoddy owners bleeding clubs dry. This was totally avoidable with due diligence.

I think I read somewhere that this owner, Dai, was rejected by the PL due diligence before taking over reading.

Looked a foul to me. Played the man not the ball.

Don't get me wrong, I think that's a foul on the field. The way that the CR was handling the game + the "clear and obvious" mandate makes me think -- they are not wanting to re-referee the game and that it was not a clear and obvious error.

The key is cashing in at the right time, look at Coutinho's career after he left. Liverpool got maximum value, and peak years from Coutinho before cashing in.

I think this is the absolute key. I put this in the transfer thread, but Man City are the kings of selling a first team player every year for a decent wedge allowing them to be more ffp compliant -- not commenting on their alleged breaches, but being able to sell one or two first team players for 50m every summer is always going to be extremely good for FFP reasons. In this day & age of financial rules, there should be very few "unsellable" players in a squad.

Ooh I'll have to check that out

yeh, you can make it instant, 2/5/or 10 second intervals that the game automatically processes. When I changed to that a few years ago, saved a ton of time hitting continue.

I actually never used to at all until fairly recently. But now I often holiday between matches just because I can't be bothered to keep pressing continue lol. It has got me in a few situations like when a player is 'developing concerns' and I miss the chance to talk to them. But overall it just makes the game that bit quicker which I like.

I set the time processor to instant, so the game continually goes until I stop it / get a inbox that needs attention. Find it very helpful
