Last season people were saying the same thing by referencing QPR's transfer dealings compared to our own. I know it wasn't the best season but it could have been worse, we could have been QPR. We're at least bringing a new generation through...so it's no wonder they're not all household names yet. Like Benteke last year.

Based on my 3 minutes experience on wikipedia we should 100% got for Castaignos out of those two.

We will still struggle to replace those goals and assists even if we spent all the money on one replacement. I would much rather he stayed for another 12 months giving us two seasons to pull away from the bottom clubs before we have to sell him. I do think what you're saying is a bit obvious. "We will struggle"...possibly but it is doable, especially if the team is more balanced next year. It would be great to have him for another season.

I don't think that's fair. You have to pay the wages of your squad anyway and Barry was important for us that season. Lerner was also splashing the cash back then trying to build for a champions league push. It was a calculated decision as far as I can see. The financial problems have been real but I don't think keeping Barry had anything to do with it.

He is very good. Spurs are also in a good position---none of this Europa league nonsense, they could be right up there next season as one of the top teams, especially with Benteke. They have to pay **** loads though. £35million+ for the absolute beast.

I believe his hype. He can do it at a better club than Villa (are now - we're still building), as regretful as that is for me to say. Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea - all these would be big moves for him and, imo, would quite easily enhance his chances of staying above Lukaku for Belgium. If Lukaku starts playing for Chelsea then Benteke's WC place might be in trouble if he stays at Villa. It's a shame but to say this is all about money is being a bit naive and unfair, I think. He is going to be a great player. I'm sad about this but he's not gone yet and I hope we get what we deserve, which is £35million +

What is he supposed to do though? The player doesn't want to be here. He could grow some balls and tough it out. I am betting Lerner's pockets are deeper than Benteke's! So if the player goes on strike, then what? Leave him on the bench like everyone else is saying? What good is that going to do? He don't want to play for us anymore. Get rid and get someone who gives a ****. Aside from Chelsea and Man City Every prem side is forced to sell off their best players, even Arsenal had to do it with Van Persie and Manure had to do it with Ronaldo. Such is the power of players and their cANT agents Benteke's sale has nothing to do with mismanagement or ambition and the money will be reinvested, but the fact is we could not afford the wages of a player that cost 25 mil which is why we won't go down that route. 10/15 mil maybe. Is does really. We can't afford the very top players fair enough. But equally a well run Aston Villa should be able to compete in the transfer market with all but the top six or seven clubs. Under Lerner we can't even compete with Stoke, Southampton, Swansea - and that can't be right. Doug Ellis used to churn out 'we can't compete with Manchester united over player fee's' - he was correct of course - but there are still plenty of prem clubs we should be able to bounce out of the water. The fact that we can't is a real concern for the future of our club. You have a short memory.

I think benteke is underrated. If Spurs sign Benteke they will be a great team. He's going to be massive. He blew my mind at times last season.

The stalling began when we lost Milner AND O'Neill. Since then we have been in turmoil with new managers. I'm sure we'll have a better season this coming one than last...just maybe not as good as it could have been. We sold Milner for what £24million? Then Benteke is a £35million plus player. Benteke is brilliant. He is unplayable, almost more unplayable than anyone I have ever seen, and he is just 22. I think we should be getting £40million. He will go to a good team and he will continue to be unplayable, have a great year and start for Belgium in the world cup. I think he is the real deal 100%. This is sh1t. I hate it that this keeps happening but I speak a lot of truth here, I feel.

We have to be careful how we look at all of the money. Benteke has £3m of wages for the next three years and if we were to get say £24m for him, we'd find ourselves £27m to the good. Two £5.5m players at £40k a week for four years is £27m gone - but you can guarantee that this place would go mental claiming we hadn't spent it and Lerner had pocketed it because the fees only amount to £11m. Because of how low his wages are, you can pretty much take whatever fee we get for Benteke and half it for a fair idea of how much it'll give us to spend on transfers. Why would the money we get for Benteke have to go on paying the entire wages of a replacement? The money should be made available to sign a player and his wages should be covered by the amount the club make each year from television. I don't get this thinking at all. We'd be adding £2.5m a year to the wage bill by bringing in any of the established strikers that have been mentioned as swaps - there aren't two pots of money - there's just the club. And the club get a large amount of money each year. The money we get for Benteke should not have to pay the transfer fee and wages for 3/4 years. This man still doesn't get how accounts work. You are clearly not self employed or an accountant.

Arsenal had a bid rejected for Suarez. Hmmmmm. Wenger had been aware of him at Genk. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
