Nobody likes losing games, don't confuse our understanding of the decision as gleefully accepting defeat.
After tonight's result it looks like a good decision, huge game Sat.

If we beat Brentford on Sat even I'll admit that we won't finish below 5th and I'm super cautious

What the ****!!

Good grief, Chelsea have a penalty to miss now
If its even given!

Really frustrating Chelsea have managed to lose this from 2 up. A draw would be good enough for us.

MON's strategy was to rest players in Europe and go after the Champion's League place, so a reverse Unai in this case. What is more important now? The league or the Euro Conf League competition? No idea. Those 3 points dropped could haunt us if we don't qualify.
and you're welcome.
I would rather Unai rested Doug who has played too many games, looks burnt out and walking a disciplinary tight rope.
It's horrible to lose to those plastic cheats, particularly since we beat them before and their defence are rubbish this season, a draw was possible in my opinion. But I trust Unai, but until we know this strategy pays off i'm not going to pretend it's fine as we won't know till later.3 points dropped away to City, really?! Even the draw was a tough ask with their record at home.
I think Unai is taking both as series, he rested players in the away leg v Ajax

I'm also assuming that because Konsa's cross went in it had a low xG value? Whereas if Duran just headed it into an open net it would have been high?
That's a very good point actually, I'm not sure how that works!

I'm comfortable with this, however it does make Saturday a big game. We were likely going to lose anyway so I'm glad we've related some legs.

Different game. We will have players back for that.
Exactly we could have McGinn, Watkins, Ramsey and even Cash back for that game.

As I've said about Ollie missing out and now Emi...its probably the best game they could miss as they could still play and we may lose. This game is a shot to nothing. If we get something out of it then great if not whatever.
Exactly this, pick our battles. Players will definitely burn out...

If we get thumped and then don’t beat Brentford serious questions have to be asked.
You just don’t put that team out at Manchester City. If we get a hiding today it not only damages GD but also confidence.
I genuinely don’t know know what Emery is playing at tbh.
Oh come on, it hits confidence less when you know you've rotated your first team out. We are running out of fit players, surely people can see this?!
I'd have started Tim in at least one game weeks ago!

We've got to rest players, 7 games in a month is far too many! Shame Emi is poorly as that weakens us even more. It puts pressure on Saturday but that's the one we need to win, today was unlikely anyway.
GD is only a factor for Spurs really too.

Again, Man Utd are a big factor here as four of Spur's points came against them.
True but they have drawn away to City and Arsenal and beaten us.

This is heavily skewed by the addition of United.
They will be nowhere near the top 5 come the end of the season and pretty much only serve to drag Villa down in this "top 6 mini-league". If you were to only look at the top 5 teams competing for Champions League football this season, we're joint top, I believe.
Agreed but the main point is Spurs have actually done well against most teams.

It happens though, I don’t care if at the end of the season we end up above both of them. It’s about consistency across a full league season and not playing brilliantly or poorly in a one off game, that’s why I hate the term ‘must win game’ when it’s in the middle section of the season because it’s not true. Yes it would’ve made it easier if we had beaten them but beating all them we would now be in the title race and we know we aren’t that good yet.
This is a very sensible post, one off games can happen. A league rewards the most consistent teams.

Always lump.
Should have scored really too!

You thinking Ty LB?
I had a think about this myself.
In fairness, we still have no idea how he will come back so maybe premature.
But imagine a game where solidity is what we need?
Ty - LB Pau LCB Carlos RCB Konsa RB
Or we could just do a 3 at the back hybrid.
Ty LCB Pau CB Konsa RCB
Alot of possibilities imo.
We could play the 3 however I do think it's too negative especially at home. Definitely an option for certain games though

Not just shots but touches in the box. Apparently Brentford had something like the most touches in oppo box for 20 odd years
85 or something like that!

Lisandro Martinez and Lindelof now out of action for a month.
Only ourselves to blame if we don't hold onto 5th.
Didn't Martinez only come back the weekend, it was Varane that went off?

We need him flying at set pieces for sure

Shame he's not been fit enough to make an impact this season, we are a weaker team without him imo

We will need him in the next two, Brentford are massive on set pieces

Plymouth have been shocking since Foster took over, but they were hurt by us recalling Azaz and Kesler In January. I don’t think Souza is quite having the experience of Azaz or Kesler there.
Warnock likely to be incoming, and he’s not famous for bloody kids in relegation battles.
Yeh we've not really helped them by taking two 1st team players. Hoping they stay up though.

In fairness we can't be too cocky, few minutes before the end they were getting pretty close again!
Very happy with the result.
