  1. Whilst this shows the respective merits of each in attacking sense, what it doesnt show is/was how reliable Downing and Ash are in working back to support their fullback. Something N'Zogbia is not reknowned for? What....
  2. and he'll go somewhere else. While we've got has been's on 55k a week on the books you've got to be looking at giving him circa 50k pw. N'Zogbia comes into the bracket of 'better player' and they should be paid, its the crap ones (S.Ireland 65k pw) that should be taken off the payroll.
  3. Hi General I have renewed two season tickets for the forthcoming season. Included in the deal is free AVTV. Very good indeed, however on AVTV at present is an interview with Ron Saunders. I am reluctant to buy AVTV when my ST's are to be delivered shortly and I presume, my free AVTV code. Will the interview be left on the site for everyone to watch?
  4. I think it was wolves and he was bit closer than I first remembered....
  5. That's about it Keyblade. You're right about the last bit too.
  6. I think you're thinking of Stoke IIRC. 'Twas a real sitter though. Harsh...he was outside the peanlty spot but it was unchallenged. The height he got was very good.
  7. Makoun's pass through to Young against wolves was as good as I'd seen all season. (Young missed) the chance one on one) He does show flashes of being above average but I don't think he's a reincarnation of Cruijjf, furthermore I don't think anyone claims that. He gives as good as he gets which bicks translates as not being able to tackle, which is not the case. He does suffer from 'red mist' sometimes. I'm not confident he's settled in this country without having anything to base this on, I just feel he's a fish in the shallows. If he had have scored from the header, just inside the area, Witton End, cant remember who against, the views maybe different.
  8. Yeah it was just an opinion mate. I'm not in the Bicks/Risso lets burn him at the stake gang
  9. How can you tell? Just reading between the lines - the family in Cameroon stuff etc. When I met him in April he hadn't picked up any English. I could be doing him down and be miles off the mark.
  10. He hasn't settled in this country and wants to back to France in my opinion.
  11. Pilchard - tell me how much money has Randy Lerner invested in playing staff since he came here?
  12. What success have we had on the pitch under Lerner compared to under Ellis ? So far the timeline comparison isnt bad with an unlucky League cup defeat. Two League cup wins shouldn't be difficult to beat in the next 8 years or so or maybe it will as the changes to football have been dramatic even in the last 3 years. We haven't been relegated under Randy Lerner something Doug used to regard as an inconvenience.
  13. I'm not. I'm criticising for what he can no longer do. You were arguing that two years ago and this last January he spent 18m rising to 24m on Darren Bent. One swallow doesn't make a summer but how you can compare him with Doug I don't know. The level of investment hasn't dropped so dramatically even amid the furore of sell to buy, which every normal club does by the way. Randy Lerner doesn't have Sheik Mansour type cash to spend ...get over it.
  14. What you fail to accept is that there are no oligarch's, Sheik's or Columbian chemist's forming an orderly que to buy Villa, so we're better off with Randy Lerner. How do we know until we start looking? I mean how were they available for Citeh? The Inidan bloke who has just pulled out of QPR is worth a bob or two I believe. How do you know there are none available? Just wait for the next club to bought out and come bak and tell me there are none How do you know Lerner isn't looking? (Indian bloke, QPR? has he got as much as Lerner?) What you want is an owner with the spending power of Sheik Mansour and unfortunately there just aren't that many about. You also have to be careful for what you wish for. I started a thread about investment born out of reports about the NFL lockout and the financial implications for Villa. In this I suggested 3 ways in which things could go. I don't think Lerner should be berated and lambasted for what he's done for Aston Villa.
  15. What you fail to accept is that there are no oligarch's, Sheik's or Columbian chemist's forming an orderly que to buy Villa, so we're better off with Randy Lerner.
  16. I'd agree with that, yeah. But for the other non-financial reasons I've stated above, I'd still tell them to piss off and wait. I agree with what BOF said earlier. It would be difficult, even if a bid came in on say 20m for the new manager to sell, unless he had a ready replacement that was of equal ability. There is the possibility that Downing could improve again though. To my mind there is improvement in him. I want to see more shots (yes on target please Stewart) No more hospital balls putting others in the shit and more telling crosses. His confidence seemed to grow as the season went on to the point of thinking he could go to Le Arse. I think he could thrive even more this season with an inspirational manager.
  17. In other news a meteor the size of Wales is due to hit earth at lunchtime.
  18. 2 or 3 solid signings and i think we will be there or there about too. So do I but they have to be solid signings. McCarthy, Adam and Dann and Foster (thats 4 I know)
  19. I'm with you on this Maz. Marc Albrighton could be a real blast this coming season. I think he will thrive under McLeish. (NB Not all our players are nice people - Marc Albrighton is very nice chap)
  20. I couldnt disagree more. Albrighton's defensive work was very good.
  21. I'd be happy too but Johnson isn't coming and we'll be mighty lucky to get N'Zogbia. I dont think we'll see so much 2 wingers on the pitch and I for one will be glad.
  22. Thanks for the downspin from the Brothers Glum. If we can get 20m for Downing take it because he's not worth it.
  23. Well he got it right didn't he. We're not in the CL and Barry is while he doubled his wages. What people have to understand is that footballer's aren't particularly bright, they're not loyal (there has never really been loyalty in football) and furthermore they're not all particularly nice people.
