  1. Sidwell- He was good at Reading and Mourinho signed him on a free to prove a point to the Chelsea board that he wasn't getting enough money at the time, he signed Ben Haim also NRC- He was u21 captain, look at him now, we've ruined him, when he came here he was 1 of the best young english CMs around, he almost made the 2006 WC squad if I remember rightly Davies- Probably also gone backwards in his time at villa, largely due to injuries that have plagued him throughout his career though, I still rate him though and hope he gets his career back on track Heskey- I'm sure he had about 3 goals that season, to pay £3.5m for a then 30 year old who was out of contract at the end of the season was madness
  2. I take it back after looking at his goalscoring record for them, he was terrific
  3. I agree Ronaldo wasn't that great there, Puskas was though, Zidane was up there also, no matter what you think
  4. I agree with you, when we played Man City away we would've had a lot more incentive with those extra 3 points, I was only saying what the typical response would be, not what my opinion was
  5. Di Stefano, Ronaldo, Puskas all put him to shame, there's no way he was their best ever
  6. I think we might need to wait for a few players to be sold, or just Milner, before we buy new players - not for transfer funds but to ensure that the wage bill doesn't go through the roof! Also, if you check any of MysteryMan's comments from the last few weeks, the insight is that MON prefers to buy players near the end of the window to ensure the price is as realistically low as possible. Be patient. :winkold: The reason I disagree with this tactic? The extra three points from the Wigan home game might have made a huge difference. Having those players in place, Dunne, Warnock etc could have been the difference between 6th and 4th. Get it done, stop arsing about. I agree completely but prepare for the typical "we finished more than 3 points from 4th at the end of the season" response
  7. It'd make it a bit disappointing though when he leaves for nothing at the end of the season. If he played regularly, do you think he would leave? He won't sign a new deal, you can guarantee that
  8. Got it all from wiki - admittedly he doesn't appear to be important squad member for City, but he has made 49 appearances for them. you do realise anyone can edit wiki?
  9. No it doesn't, he never got a chance at spurs and he did well at Derby but his progress was halted by injuries, he's a very good footballler who I think would flourish here
  10. You know Valencia have spent that money already on Aduriz, Soldado, Feghouali etc are actually stronger on paper than last year stronger on paper
  11. ^^^ This!! It's that simple MON, we'd be a lot stronger if we signed those players, can someone tell me why our transfer plans have been on hold for around 2 months whilst this brat makes his mind up?? I said all along that we're skint!
  12. Mixed feelings for me. Happy that we kept our best player but sad that we would have drastically reduced our transfer budget But we will have kept our best player who we should be building a team around? Bring in Bentley (8), Keane (6), Prince Boateng (5) and Flamini (5) and sell Heskey (2), Shorey (2), Davies (6 or swap for Keane/Bentley), Sidwell (2), NRC (2), Beye (1) and we have a net spend of 9m (and probably little change in wage bill) which is less than normal and less than the speculated sponsorship deal and I think we would have a much stronger side than last year with options out wide, up front and in the CM? No Dorrans? Is he not flavour of the month anymore?
  13. Jordi Gomez, Jason Scotland, Gary Caldwell, Marcelo Moreno, Scott Sinclair, Ben Watson, Steve Gohouri all disprove this theory not all bargains pay-off and 3 of them were loan signings. What about N'Zogbia, Palacios, Valencia, Bullard, Rodallega, Figueroa even Bramble all bought for peanuts and became solid premier league players or better They've had roughly the same amounts of flops and good signings imo I still think they'll go down this season

  15. 100% agree. but you will find many wont. Finishing 6th is great for them. Not only that, theyre happy to watch the most boring football played by a villa side in years. Sorry don't get this. Where should we be finishing and please explain why :? We've challenged top 4 two years running now. 1st time, 08-09 - realistically, chances went middle of March. 2nd time, 09-10 - realistically, chances went end of April when we lost to Man City. We are doing our best to compete ABOVE ourselves but simply fall short, I'm thankful we are in those positions to start with and at least competing above our standard really. We're not Wigan, we're Aston Villa, there's no way we should be settling for 6th imo we are the 5th most successful club in the history of the english league system. We should be looking to improve like those teams around us are doing such as Man City and Liverpool. Some fans are so negative, it seems like they're happy with Europa League football every season. No, it's called being realistic. We've got a great history!?!?! Whoopeeedy **** do to be honest. "Oh hey there Silva come to Villa, I mean, we have a better history than Man City and we willgive you £60k a week, what more could you want :)" "Silva, we will give you £120k a week oh and did I tell you about our plans for the likes of Yaya Toure, Adebayor, Tevez, Toure....want me tell you about what we are planning for the future too?" "but David......look at our history. HISTORY!!!!!" get the point? saying we should be competing like Man City is the sort of unrealistic expectations which make our supporters so negative because it can't be done and when it's not done, people moan. Am I happy with Europa League football every season!?!? Yes. Do I want Villa to improve on that and push higher!? Yes. The club, nor the fans are 'settling' for 6th/7th place but we also are realistic. We should aim high as long as you can accept that when you don't reach it, it's not a bad thing. finishing below our ability is unsatisfactory, i.e. 8th or below. Finishing in the position which our team is ability wise, 7th....is solid. Finishing above our capabilites, in 6th or 5th for me is a good league campaign. finishing 4th is simply unbelievable given the competition. wow at this though, so you're resigned to finishing 7th at best already? I think that's a terrible attitude to have, there is no reason why we can't finish above Man City next season or at least compete with them, we did a good job of it last season! Imo we have a far better team spirit than Man City which is something you cannot buy! I understand that they can offer players silly money and they can blow us out of the water but that shouldn't stop us from trying to finish above them, should it? why are you happy with Europa League every season? I can understand it if it's because young players can gain experience in reasonably high pressure situations
  16. I don't have a big issue really. I personally enjoy watching our younger players in competitive competitions. A reason why I went to watch Brighton at home in the Fa Cup when well getting to VP isn't exactly easy. There is a certain buzz for me seeing the likes of Fonz, Albrighton, Delph performing for Villa. I agree with this

  18. I've said this all along, that we've got no money and was ridiculed for it Because previous windows have suggested that Randy will back MON. Of that i have no doubt He can't back him if there's no money.... Seriously? Of course there is money to spend. How on earth would you know?
