  1. The name he was Gobsmacked about was David Moyes, he said it on Twitter...
  2. General, i was just wondering why you are so adamant about the next manager having Premier League Experience? This is the strangest thing i have ever heard and i don't know of any other club that insists on this? Did Sir Alex have PL experience before he went to United? Did Moyes have PL experience before he went to Everton? Did Wenger? Did Mourinho? Ancelotti? Hiddink? i could on General as the list of successful managers over the last 20+years without previous experience is far greater than the list with! Reports in the paper today are suggesting Quique Sanchez Flores wanted the Job, to rule someone like that out because they don't have premier league experience is stupidity. Names like Rijkaard, Klinsmann, Van Gaal all ruled out because they don't have PL experience, you'd even rule out Guardiola from Barca?? instead you would consider the likes of McLaren, McLeish, Curbishley, Allardyce etc because they have experience in the PL??? this just doesn't make sense to me on either a football or a business sense as they are all average managers that have won little between them and don't even play attractive football! As for the Talk on Mcleish, obviously if you do appoint him i will, like most, give him my full support and give him a chance. However i really can't see where he can take us? The fact that he was Blues manager has nothing to do with the anger shown on here by a lot of fans, frankly the majority don't give a flying f... that he managed them, the reason is quite simply that his record as a manager in the premier league is very very poor, he has taken them down in 2 of the last 4 seasons. Ok so this meets your premier league credentials, but surely you also have on there that they need to be half successful too? That's like getting the cleaner to do your accounts because she has experience of the company! Surely General if we can't get the quality of manager we want at the club with PL experience, then surely it must be time to look abroad at the top managers over there and the type of foreign talent that they can bring into the club? After all we don't limit the players to having PL experience so why do we limit the manager?? It really doesn't make sense at all and whoever has advised you that this must be the case really is going to hurt/limit our club! I still trust Randy and yourself as all you've done so far with our club is good things and you have, and always will have, my 100% backing and support, however i do think that you are taking poor advice from somewhere and its hindering your attempts to get this club where you and all us fans want it, challenging for trophies year after year. hopefully you haven't been scared off here yet General and have had a chance to read my post, and hopefully we'll see you back online in the near future! Regards Wayne
  3. I'd say Faulkner is more to blame than Lerner. We all know that Lerner knows little about the game and only really what he has learnt since coming to Villa, he uses Faulkner's advice to guide him in the right direction, so as far as i can see Faulkner is guiding him in completely the WRONG direction!
  4. I can't understand why so many people are getting wound up?? All the club has said is they are going to interview AM. They have also said that they are going to interview a number of candidates and then pick who they think is best for the club. This is common practice for any successful business, if you rule candidates out without interviewing them, then you are stupid and will most likely fail in your business. I believe that Villa will be interviewing all the candidates that meet their criteria and then going from there. i also believe they would have a number 1 pile (with the likes of Moyes Ancelotti etc) a number 2 pile (Hughes, Martinez etc) and a number 3 pile (McLeish, Mclaren etc). You would start with these piles, but still give careful consideration to the other piles as you may actually need to move from your number one pile when you can't get them. Also once interviewed, I'm sure names could also change from one pile to another depending on how the interview went etc. Simple facts of being successful in business, don't count anyone out until you talk to them. And at the moment all Villa have said is they want to talk to him and others. Now stop being the laughing stock of football fans, because yes, it's us fans that are the ones being laughed at, and reading this board i can see why! Easily we are the most Fickle fans in the country.
  5. Talking to someone is the best way to find out their motives/ambition, obvious really you could just try and get Ancelotti for example, but his ambition is to get back to a big club and would be gone in another 12 months....not much help to us really! And how do we know how many we have spoken to? Ah yes because the press say so.....
  6. If i had to put money on it, i would have to split it between Moyes and Hughes. There are a few things that make a good case for either of them to be the one. These are 2 possible scenarios... Moyes - we know Randy wanted him last year before GH, so we know he is a choice of the board. BK stated a few weeks ago that there is no money to spend and he would have to sell to buy. Moyes stated that without money that he thinks 7th is as good as it will get for Everton. he also stated that he is ambitious and wants to win trophies. To me this suggests that he is growing tired of not having the backing at Everton and would be open to other options. But the one thing that keeps my hopes up is, if there is nothing in it why hasn't someone from Everton come and and dismiss the rumour as a lot of people up there are talking about it also? We know we approached Wigan and Fulham, and we know we approached Everton last year, surely we would have approached them again?? The silence from both clubs makes Moyes my favourite. Hughes - we know Fulham were approached, but we were told no. Hughes then resigned thinking he would have a clear run, we said we don't do that. Well maybe part of letting the press have their field day and letting the likes of Wigan say we tried to get their manager and we did it all in the right way is all part of waiting until July 1st so we can get Hughes. Then when Fulham try to get money out of us we can say we didn't want him, we tried other avenues without luck and Hughes was number xxx on our list and the only other (best) option left to us. No compensation to pay. The longer it goes the more i would favour Hughes, but at the moment my favourite would be Moyes. However i wouldn't rule something out from Leftfield Like Klinsmann, Deschamps, Rijkaard etc. I would be very surprised if it was someone like McLeish though and don't for one minute buy into the fact that he is being considered. I truly believe that it is coincidence that he left whilst we are looking and that he left because he was sick of having no money to spend and being told to sell his best players. And... I can't understand how anyone can get on the backs of the board? they have done nothing but good since coming here and deserve the chance to get the right man in. They do this behind closed doors as is always the case and the best way to do it. At this time of year most of the Football world is on Holiday so it is most likely that the man we are after is away on holiday with his family somewhere and we have to wait for them to get back. Do we want the club to come out with a statement that our number 1 target is xxxx xxxx and is on holiday until such a time or do we want them to wait until they get a chance to speak with him and try to persuade him? Moyes may well have been approached and has gone on Holiday to think about it? The club won't put out statements every time we are linked to someone and i am surprised they did with McLaren. hopefully they have stopped reading this board as they will be putting out club statements every we get a new link and this place goes into meltdown. I've never seen a board have so much shite written on it as this last week or so, and all from what? stuff we read in the paper, it just goes to show you how much sway the British Press has and how gullable we all are! ask yourselves one question...After all that Randy and the board have done for us, do you trust them or the press more??? i think the answer to that is simple... UTV
  7. Ladies and gentlemen we have a WINNER!!! The prize for the most ungrateful, pig-**** ignorant, over the top, factually bereft reaction goes to..... C V Byrne. The prize? A season ticket at another club of your choice. My treat. We don't need idiots like you near this football club. **** off newbie. Loads of you new **** crawling about the place these days. So the basis of your arguement appears to be, "I have posted on this website more than you (regardless of the fact that 5999 of my posts have been me pulling the Pope's cap off myself into oblivion over the latest mobile phone) I therefore am more informed on club matters than you." Ok. Remember Bodymoor Heath, the free coaches, free flags, mosaic, refurbished Hotle Suite, Acrorns sponsorship etc. **** me. Randy really has been a shit owner hasn't he. :bonk: I'll go halves with you on that ticket Eames! I've seen some silly post on here this last week or so, but this has to be the worst. What a complete and utter Prick of the highest standing! Oh and Eames, you forgot to mention the endless amount of money that he has given for players... Can anyone give me one example of something bad that Randy has done for this club? and i don't mean little things like the kit stuff up last season, whilst it upset a few it didn't have any major effect on the club in a bad way!
  8. Guys calm down i just tweeped Phil Neville he laugh his head off because one hour ago he had spoken to moyes so its liar about him. Phil Neville isn't even on twitter. @fizzer18 is his account and as he posted a pic yesterday of him and his kids by the pool on hol i'm going to stick my neck out on this one and say its him !!!!!!!!!! Yeah @fizzer18 is his account, but he hasn't posted a tweet on there for 3 hours, so i would guess you tweeted a fake account.....or are making it up...
  9. That's quite a bold statement to make? Correct!
  10. Nope. Twitter very quite so far this morning, hopefully the calm before the storm though.....
  11. .H Surely that is a H for Hiddink!!! I'm sure i've seen him sign his name Guus .Hiddink somewhere.........
  12. Oh, and that's just a feeling i have, not some ITK before i get hammered.... i just think today we will hear something and i also it could be something we remember for a long time!
  13. This! not sure it would be as DOF, but my money is on Klinsmann. Hiddink would be the gobsmacker for me. Can't think of any other gobsmackers other than Fergie, Wenger, Mourinho or Pep and we ain't getting them.... I also think if Hiddink was nailed on for Chelsea why isn't it done and dusted? Chelsea don't normally hang around, i think they are waiting for Hughes on July 1, even more so with Terry's comments earlier in the week.
  14. Nice to see my tweets being mentioned Does this mean i'm ITK??? Who are you then?? Coop_86 or thevillans haha thevillans...i don't have anything interesting to mention.... so don't start hounding me :winkold:
  15. Nice to see my tweets being mentioned Does this mean i'm ITK???
  16. As far as i'm concerned any appointment now will be a decent one as the 2 i was dreading have been ruled out, Mclaren and Rafa. Mclaren because i think he is a woeful manager and should have stayed as a number 2 and Rafa because i despise the fella and i'm sure Randy still has similar feelings to this after the Barry Saga and probably never even considered him!
  17. Of course, that is based on the assumptions you and other people have been fed through the media. The same media who, in all honesty, haven't got a **** clue about what's gone on behind closed doors in the past week. Nah the media no nothing, nobody has turned down we have hundreds of millions to spend and all the top managers are queuing up to manage us or am i dreaming ? **** wake up ! it's Villa not **** Manchester Utd... I would say that you know nothing, like i know nothing, like the media know nothing (or very little at least). I would also say that its you getting desperate not the Villa board and certainly not me, its only been a week ffs and in that time we've been turned down by all and sundry, i think you need to wake up mate, Lerner only flew into the country a couple of days ago. God imagine some people on here if we wait a couple of weeks for the right man....
  18. He is Boro's most successful manager He did alight in the cups, but his league form was average at best with the amount of money they were spending, usually buying our players. 12th, 11th, 11th, 7th and 14th is average spending the money they did then. Sorry Oaks, but pinching another one of yours....summing it up perfectly yet again! i really hope we can look forward to the success of finishing 12th, 11th, 11th, 7th and 14th! Maybe we should go for Avram Grant, he's won much more than any of them....he is actually Hapoel Tel Aviv's most successful manager! :winkold:
  19. i was just about to start replying to a few posts, but read this.....pretty much sums it up perfectly for me.
  20. Mate he won the league cup with Boro, which blues won this year and got relegated....does that make Mcleish a better manager than all of them? He got to the UEFA final by luck more than judgement, wasn't he 4 goals down in both quarter and semi final and threw on all his forwards for defenders and they won? hardly takes a genius tactician to employ those tactics does it.. He won the Dutch league...woohoo, sign him up! he had a 38% win ratio at Boro & a 23% win ratio at Wolfsburg, now that is impressive! So yes he has won more than the others, but is that the reason you would like to see him come to Villa? Sorry just noticed you said wouldn't mind him at Villa* how about this line from wiki... During a 0–4 defeat at home to Aston Villa, a Middlesbrough fan ran onto the pitch and threw his season ticket at McClaren signifying his disgust at the club's performances. i think that would be happening a lot if he becomes the next manager...
  21. I voted Klinsmann as he wasn't on the list and think he would be the ideal man for us. 2nd choice would be either Hughes or Moyes. I would be happy with either of them and personally don't think there is much difference between the 2 of them. My big concern with Moyes is can he take a club to the next level? or is Everton his limit a bit like MON took us to his limit? he may get money to spend here, but will he be able to use it or is he a better manager when he is made to work on a small budget? The more i think about it each day the more i get a horrible feeling it will be FSW that gets the post, and that to me is one step above Mclaren. I wouldn't be upset if we appointed Coyle or Martinez as i think they are both very good upcoming managers that could both turn into excellent managers, they just need a chance, so why shouldn't we be the ones to give them that chance? I wouldn't be adverse to Rijkaard either as i think he could attract the kind of names we want. I would be well p!ssed off if we got Rafa as i can't stand the bloke and always told my reds fans that they would never win the league under him, also can't forgive him for the Barry saga and this is why i have a passionate hate for Liverpool these days. if we get Mclaren i will take up lawn bowls on a Saturday afternoon this season, at least i have a chance of winning and enjoying it!!!
  22. To be honest mate, you didn't catch too many, it was mainly people like me that live in Australia and others that live in the US that were posting at that time. It was midday here so when i get to log on in my lunch to have a look at whats happening....which usually isn't too much around that time, however you did create a bit of good banter!
  23. I can't see any reason why the Hughes deal couldn't have already been done. ok legally he can't do anything until July 1st, but whats that to stop anything? he can easily tell Randy his targets and let the board get on with it, no reason at all he can't take charge and start making changes without it all going public. If nothing has happened by the weekend i think this is more likely than not the situation.
