  1. Martin Jol was my first choice last time around.
  2. Hughes is very different from O'Neill.
  3. This. The general mentioned in the past we have been willing to enter into negotiations with "want away" players on similar terms than the buying club. Sadly, we did not have players who were loyal to Aston Villa and our ambitions.
  4. Just read Downing's comments. He is definitely engineering a move with that statement, I expected a little bit more dignity from the guy.
  5. We need to start again, and I suggest as a start by allowing these two to leave ASAP.
  6. Please stop moaning. Downing is one player. That is still largely unproven at a consistent level in this league. I am sure there will be players intent on leaving whoever is appointed anyway. If a player wants to leave, they must go IMO.
  7. He knows nothing, it will not be McClaren.
  8. I like Hughes and would be fully behind the appointment.
  9. Come on mods sort this crap out.
  10. I will not be responding sensibly until Cap'n_Guttiwuts is reinstated back to the forum.
  11. Ron Saunders never ever attempted to smile and what did he achieve?
  12. He is a winner, he does not like losing one jot.Sometimes it seems as if he cares more about not losing than about winning. He's the draw specialist. The draws gave him a base to build upon. He has had a strong end to the season with Fulham with a lot of wins in the past few weeks.
  13. I can see where you are coming from, although that realism is your opinion not a fact. We will have to agree to disagree Trenty. I hope our future manager adopts my resolute attitude, rather than just accepting, what seems to be, uncontrollable fate.
  14. Disagree. With the right manager we are geared for success, and that certainly includes competing for the top four. I don't agree, we are no closer now than we were when Randy arrived and it is unrealistic to think that any manager we could appoint would have us challenging for the top 4 in the next couple of years. Challenging for the top four is possible. Achieving a top four finish? Yes, I agree it will take a lot to build a side capable to achieve that feat. It is not beyond the realms of possibility though and that is the attitude we will have to take in coming seasons.
  15. He is a winner, he does not like losing one jot. The reason why he comes across as arrogant and stubborn is partly due to his winning mentality, and that has been in him at every club he has been associated with. You certainly will not see Hughes fawning over his previous clubs at the match or in the media.
  16. Disagree. With the right manager we are geared for success, and that certainly includes competing for the top four.
  17. Who do you want? Pulis? Big Sam?
  18. Why is Makoun being criticised this strongly? The guy has some class about him. He had a bad game physically against Newcastle, he still managed to create opportunities with his vision and technique in that game. I guess "some" will not be happy until we have a meat head in the midfield, oh let's say someone of the Glenn Whelan mould. It is really amazing.
  19. Depends on whether our soundbites regarding ambition actually match our true ambitions. How was the sound bite when we signed Bent in January?
  20. You might be able to argue this, but we have no clue what the Board's list for potential replacements looks like. Fair point.
  21. Hughes is better than most on the current list of potential replacements.
