Part of me would like to see a Twins-Rockies World Series because that would b the worst-case scenario for the TV executives. On the other hand a Red Sox-Dodgers World Series would be the worst-case scenario for these neurotic Yankee fans who are just as obsessed with the Red Sox/Mets/Manny as they are with their own team.

if you watched the video clips of his post-game press conference, Eli looked clearly annoyed at the questions about the injury, which is out of character for him and usually a tell-tale sign that a player is worried and fearful. yeah, nice win, but another crap team so you can't read too much into it. you know a team is desperate when they attempt an on-side kick to start the second half. i don't think i've ever seen that.

We make our living on the ground so it shouldn't really matter. It the pass-oriented teams that are more effected by windier conditions. Interesting piece in the News today suggesting that Ahmad Bradshaw is or should be the #1 back over Jacobs.

Now, to come back down to Earth, the Giants gave up a worrisome 251 rushing yards and still struggled inside the 20. That's not gonna get it done most weeks. I'm sure that's what Coughlin will be focusing on in this week's preparations. Jacobs and Tuck react to Cowboy cheap shots

On the one hand I'm not too crushed because, considering the clubs involved, it's not a huge competition to begin with; plus it was cheapened even further after last year's Moscow capitulation. Also, I don't think we'd have gotten anywhere near the final, so why waste the time and effort. On the other hand, it's hugely frustrating coming off such a great result @ Liverpool Monday, and given all the negativity the supporters really needed something to get excited about. As it stands now, unless we reach the final of one of the domestic cup competitions and/or finish in the top 5 (i.e., ahead of one of the big money clubs) the season is a disappointment and a step backwards.

How about Captain Jack, because we'd all like to get high tonight after Saturday's performance. Seriously, though, I think it should be John Carew. But that would require MON acknowledging the fact that he's the best striker we have and putting him in the starting XI every week.

I wouldn't mind. More over I'd be very happy for him if he "escapes" the Red Bulls and gets back to Europe for one last crack at serious football. He has really conducted himself like a great professional over here despite being in a less than enviable position.

So no one's watching the Mets vs. the Padres right now? What a surprise. Yeah, I'm not watching it either...

Phillies aren't in for Halladay now that they've traded for Lee. Got a feeling he's staying in Toronto.

It's nothing to do with it being "poor form", you just can't make player moves (trades, free agent signings) in the middle of the playoffs. If someone gets injured during one of the playoff rounds, you can (with approval from the league office) activate another player from your 40-man roster for the following round (if you advance).

I honestly have nothing positive or optimistic to say about the Mets at this point. Their season has been pretty much wrecked by injuries and--although you might be able to make a move or two--there's no way you can replace these guys or re-invent your team mid-season. And most of the guys who are out have no timetable for returning--and even if they do return it's questionable at best if Delgado, Reyes, et. all will be productive even if they do come back by August. If the Mets came into the season with the line-up and pitching rotation they have now, you'd have picked them to finish 4th. Beyond Santana (who hasn't been great lately himself) their rotation is awful. Beyond David Wright, they have a AAA-caliber line-up. And aside from K-Rod, their bullpen is mediocre at best. I guess the best I can say is that I now have zero expectations of this season and can't be disappointed.

And regarding the Cubs, I've nothing against them really, but most seem to be more enamored with Wrigley Field and a nice day out than they are with the actual team, the baseball, and the results.

It's called character. Something the steroid-using Yankees and their tourist, glory-seeking fans know nothing about.

Nice results; both of them. Mets are doing well to stay in the race despite all their injuries, but I think they'll have to make some moves to stay in it over the long haul.

Montreal must look like a gold mine to them right now.

Generally I always liked the English national team, but the longer I follow Villa and the Premier League I find it tends to be just a Big 4 All Star Team, and it becomes harder to pull for them. Still, if it came down to them vs. Italy or a South American side, I'd be supporting England. Not that I have high expectations, but the US naturally is my first priority, followed by Germany (my grandparents were from there and I always rooted for them in World Cups growing up, dating back to 1982).

I heard or read the other day that Langoria was the leading vote-getter, which really surprised me as he's from a small-market club. Heading down to Philly on the 4th of July for the Phillies-Mets game (just got tickets the other day). Hopefully the Mets will still be in ti by then. The wheels are coming off but fortunately we play Washington this weekend--by far the worste team in the league.

I already have my dream woman so it's a moot point. But if I was still single, I'd take Villa winning the CL, simply because that is something I've absolutely no control over, while meeting and attracting a dream woman is at least somewhat within my power.

C'mon, you don't have to call the standings the "table" for the sake of the UK users. It's baseball. Call it what it is. They'll figure it out.

A good manager but emotionally unstable; plays too many mind games, paranoid, etc. He's the perfect guy to take a young, not-so-good team, and bring them to respectability. But not so good with a more veteran team that is expected to win big. When you consider he won the NL Pennant in 2000 with an outfield consisting of Jay Payton, Benny Agbayani, and Timo Perez (not to mention Todd Zeile at first base and an unremarkable starting rotation), that's a pretty damn good managing job.

When Bobby Valentine got fired but Phillips kept his job, most Mets fans thought it was a misprint. i.e. they were pretty stunned. Most fans loved him at the beginning, hated him in the end. In retrospect, I'd say most wouldn't criticize him too much given he returned the team to respectability and won a pennant, after several years of futility. Personally I like him better as a broadcaster.

Good thing baseball's here, as Villa's season pretty much ended today. Was at the Mets-Red Sox preseason game Friday night; first-ever Mets game at Citi Field. I think I speak for most people who were there in saying that I spent much more time looking around the new stadium than actually watching the game. It will take some getting used to after a life-time of Shea.
