    Another comment for the website - I think getting rid of the VillaWorld subscription service would be a good idea. If the video content was accessible to everyone the website would get a lot more hits, and slightly more interest in the club would be generated. Also, what about linking fan sites like this so that these sites can grow.

    Sidwell would be a good signing and adequate competition and back up with Petrov. Hopefully we'll see someone come in better than him though.

    if MON can bring in a couple of players then great - we might be capable of a late push for 6th/7th. But to be honest, as long as we finish somewhere midtable (8th - 13th) I'll be happy and we can improve big time in the summer. This season is over in terms of cups, so the best we can hope for is a decent league finish. I can't see us dropping into a relegation dogfight with the squad and manager we have.

    I could not agree more with that I disagree. Ok ok, we've got money now, and Randy's willing to let MON spend it, but thats not limitless and I very much doubt that MON will want to spend 18M on a player now when he could save that till the summer and get someone just as good if not better for a far better price. At the start of the window, most people valued Bent at around 7-9M - how his price has doubled is astonishing, and shows how well MON has done in bringing in Carew for a straight swap. I think we should ignore Bent, and go after better targets in the summer.

    I think the hype is very often justified. These players are technical masters, a league ahead of many of the players in our national side, hence why we perform quite poorly in the major comps (WC/EC). But putting these players in a physical league like the Prem where they don't have time to show off the tricks or play the slow passing game and they struggle immensely. If the whole team was made up of Aimars, D'Allesandros, Tevez's, Mascherano's, Crespo's etc etc then the link up play would be far superior and they might succeed.

    Of all the Argies to have played in England, you'd have expected Mascherano to be the best since he seems built for this league. But it didn't quite work out for him did it?

    Something to get remotely excited about though isn't it?! Its the sort of player I'd love to see the new Villa after... what about Gourcuff from Milan?

    I know its a suspicious rumour off the Sky Sports Rumours page, but for some reason I feel this could have a bit of credibility. Or maybe its blind hope that Aimar is going to be lining up against the codes on Wednesday! Isn't he on loan from Valencia to Zaragoza at the moment?

    So do I, but really, Newcastle don't need another Striker! Sort out your defence roedent! I doubt Martin will bring in another forward unless we can get rid of Angel.

    Bent is probably not going to happen. O'Neill's said he's got his eye on a couple of other players - one being SWP, but I can't see the other being a striker since we've signed Carew. This may be wishful thinking, but I think it will be a central midfielder. If not that then perhaps someone experienced to add to the back 4.

    Matty Taylor would be an excellent replacement for Samuel and a great bit of competition for Bouma. But I can't see it happening to be honest

    Etherington can't get in the Spammers team so he can't be that good.

    Baines has been suggested plenty of times. I'd like him as a replacement for Samuel.

    What a great few days for the Villa. Now our team is really starting to look impressive. If we can sign a decent left back, centre back and another winger between now and next season, we will have a UEFA cup challenging side.

    A rumour from tonight on the BBC website says we're going to sign Steve Sidwell on Monday. Would be a pretty good player to have in the squad.

    I'm not giving up hope because we all know most deals will occur in the last week of the window. MON hasn't said we're a million miles away from signings. In fact he's not said anything regarding who we're after or how its going. The only thing we've heard is that he doesn't want to be held to ransom. He and Randy both know we need players and they've both said they are working night and day to bring in players. If we are after some of those we're linked to, then I'd expect the big money deals take a fair amount of time to sort out.

    Imagine if MON pulled all the stops and we got this team: Sorensen Bardsley Bouma Mellberg Laursen Petrov Young Barry SWP Moore Defoe That would be an epic team, easily capable of Europe next season. Only thing that would need improving in the summer would be the defense.

    Here's some sad sad maths for you: 380 pages with 15 posts on each page, at an average post speed of 3 minutes, equals 285 hours of time spent posting in this thread alone. That's an awful lot of time people have been discussing the transfer window, and we've only managed to sign Phil Bardsley. Woopdedoo!
