  1. Good point by BOF And that probably applies to every club with a player who is a regular first teamer or superstar. The players won't leave unless their clubs are offered stupid prices, or the players aren't necessary at their club's. I'm hoping Lerner will seperate the men from the boys and show Villa as big money, high quality transfer dealers. But if we have to settle for those players who aren't getting a game at their current clubs, then who might be available? Has anyone got a list of European club player appearances? That might give us a clue as to whose available...
  2. Yeah okay, the press think its £25 mil. But I doubt that will be too far off the mark, unlike that transfer window where Ellis claimed we'd have significant funds to buy with (£20M was reported in the press) and then the net spend in the window turned out to be pretty measily.
  3. If M'ON has £25M to spend in Jan, as has widely been reported, I'm sure he won't go after a cheap fix. He's going to look for quality and he won't just pick up squad fillers. I'd be very surprised if there was any truth of the Griffin rumour.
  4. Beattie would be such a boring, uninspiring signing. "He's good on his day" some will say, but when his day is once every 10 games, he's not worth it at all. 20 goals a season? I don't think so. I'd be dissapointed if we went for him.
  5. He wouldn't come to us - we haven't got Champions League football, or even UEFA Cup, so I think he'd much rather go to one of the big boys.
  6. I think he said that hypothetically But good news on the scouts nonetheless. I'm glad they are scouring the continent and not just looking at Prem based players.
  7. But Arsenal are really interested in Ribery, and he'll want champs league, so its an unlikely target for January I think we need to focus on a striker, right winger, defensive midfielder and right back. Bent & Milner would both be great, but not sure about the other two positions.
  8. How about Cassano? He's fallen out with Capello at Real - would be a great purchase if he was interested.
  9. Can't imagine there won't be a target man upfront. I don't think Moore and Defoe would work as a stike pairing. Probably right, although I'm not sure who would work? Not really seen this Nugent guy play, but in the Prem there's not many who would fill that role. Oh and to the other guy who replied - Laursen would also be on the bench with Hughes or Bouma as defensive cover. I don't think he's performed as good as Mellberg or Ridgewell this season to warrant first spot.
  10. The ideal and plausible team post January 07: GK: Sorensen DL: Bridge DR: M.Richards DC: Mellberg DC: Ridgewell ML: Barry MR: Wright Phillips MC: Diop MC: Petrov SC: Moore SC: Defoe Bench: Taylor Bouma / Hughes McCann Davis / Milner Agbonlahor / Angel Sell: Baros, Hendrie, DJ DJ, Samuel All possible changes in my opinion. Only problem is the team probably wouldn't gel straight away. If MO'N spread these signings out over Jan and the summer then I'd be pretty chuffed.
  11. Yeah Mourinho would be up for that I'm sure How about Mauro Esposito? He's got a shed load of pace.
  12. Plenty of nice goals by Farfan here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rg3uzVOPn68 especially the last 2
  13. Hi all, first time post - long time reader anyway... Huntelaar would be an awesome signing, but can we compete with the big boys of Europe? Doubtful. My suggestion would be Jefferson Farfan from PSV. He's a very skillful left wing / striker who plays in the same role as Agbonlahor (but on the left). Great cross, plenty of pace, top finisher and very creative. He could fit in great into a 433 with Moore or Angel in the centre with Farfan and Gabby on the wings. If we agree that Gabby probably won't play all season out on the right, then we could play Farfan there because he's right footed. Otherwise, Milner or SWP would be top players to get in that position. Another improvement I'd like to see would be right back. We really need some quality there as Hughes is only average. Daniel Alves is unlikely as we can't attract that sort of quality, but Luke Young or Micah Richards would probably be interested. Maybe Darijo Srna aswell. Finally, a new defensive midfielder to compete with McCann would be excellent. DJ-DJ is obviously not up to the standard. My choice would be Nigel De Jong - another young, up and coming gem from Holland. Thoughts?
