  1. I am not sure if that bid really existed, or if West Ham wanted to tone it down after it being unsuccessful. 18M surely is too much for him, didn't van Nistelrooy and Kuyt go for around 10M? In all fairness I think the price for Bent if thee go down is: Chelsea - 14-15M Man Utd/Liverpool - 12-13M Aston Villa/Newcastle - 9-11M I am baffled clubs like Arsenal and Liverpool haven't gone after him, he just looks the perfect target in my eyes. Imagine Henry and Bent, pretty scary huh? I think he will join Newcastle though, typical deal. They need a striker if Owen is to be forever injured. Bent, Martins and Owen wouldn't be a trio who doesn't score goals to be honest..... Imagine a fee of 9,5M
  2. Eidur was never really the poacher anyway, more likely the joker. Darren Bent ladies and gentlemen, he is the obvious answer in my book.
  3. Difference is that Gudjohnsen never went there expecting to play every week being their star. Remember he left Chelsea, whom were never known for their attacking displays. He is the ultimate reserve and I think he loves that role.
  4. Quaresma and Ronaldo are supposedly best friends..... no wonder why they are so similar!
  5. Tevez has had an inhuman pressure on his shoulders, no wonder he has failed a bit! I think the West Ham-lot has been satisfied with his commitment of late, I wouldn't mind him.
  6. Funnily enough, people always mention one or two incidents and believe that proves a point. Looking at Sørensen over the last few seasons I think he has been good, but never great. We need a great keeper. From what I hear, I have never seen him, Craig Gordon is supposed to be a potential new great. I think Jääskelainen is great, one of the major reasons Bolton is where they are. Last season Bolton let in 14 goals less than us, which is the difference between a season for two teams. This season I guess we have improved our score, but it has much to do with our good start.
  7. In all do respect, who gives a crap about a name? As long as Tommy is doing his job surely it doesn't matter if his name is Cech or Spink? It seems to me that fans are not happy these days unless a player is signed who is big in the media and with other fans, trendy you could say. I would bet people would want Robbinson over Tommy because of his name, but Tommy has been better than Robbo this season less mistakes and won us plenty of points. Its a shame as people only remember crap stuff. Against Fulham, he makes 1 mistake and then later on keeps us in the game with 2 saves. Yet the 1 mistake is the one remembered, don't understand it personally. In all do respect, I wasn't talking about his reputation or his appearance as some other guy mentioned. I am talking about his sole ability. "Wow" for me is a keeper that keeps giving us match-winning displays and assures the defenders without any hesitation to his game. Sørensen is a bit of a confidence keeper don't you agree? Sørensen is good, and like I said I like him, but he has some weaknesses to him, and he isn't very vocal. Well, sometimes he is, but it often arrives when he is arguing with different players such as Mellberg.
  8. Because Sørensen never gives you that "wow-feeling"... I am a fan of his, I just don't know if he is good enough for the top level.
  9. To compete against the best, to be level with at least Tottenham, and to be much better than Everton, Blackburn and Newcastle we need: GK (Perhaps a new one for Sørensen, who never really seems to hit that top level over time. Sørensen is a 4 out of 6, we need a 5) LB (We have Wilfred Bouma as DL, I rate him as a 3+ perhaps a 4 if injury-free. We need a quicker one with a more modern approach) RB (When Bardsley goes back to United, we are left with Hughes whom I rate as a solid 2. Bardsley is a 3+ right now, but he is a talent) DEFS (Mellberg is a 4, Ridge and Cahill are 3+ as of right now. Laursen a 3+ due to injuries. We need a guy with great skill and age 26-29. More experience!) LM (Barry is one of our best players, I rate him at 4+ and he is a keeper without a doubt. We lack cover though!) RM (Young is our RM in my opinion, right now he is a 3+, perhaps a 4, a true talent and a 'keeper) CM (McCann is a solid 3, perhaps 3+. Not good enough and one of the most obvious places we need to replace. Petrov must be given more time, never slate that early) ST (Carew is a 4, maybe 4+ and MON's biggest signing. Moore is a 4 IMO, Gabby a 3+ with bags of talent. Angel a 3+ from next season and Sutton a 2+) So after my short assessment I think we at least need a striker, a left back, a right back (Bardsley leaves, but we can always buy him back), a central defender and maybe a goalkeeper if MON thinks Sørensen isn't good enough. GK - not so important DL - I think we need one DR - extremely important as Bardsley leaves (as of now...) CM - very important, we need the cleaner like someone mentioned ST - We can't rely on Moore to score 20+ yet, he can improve under a better poacher.
  10. Erm... What are you erm..ing about?????? Giles Barnes is 18 or something, clearly there is a big difference you should have noticed.
  11. Giles Barnes would be awesome, from what I have seen from him he is just the right guy for us. English and extremely skillful, can you ask of more Why buy Kamara and Gera? Both players at a Championship team. We want to go up, not buy players who have been around for a long time and never really set the world alight.
  12. UEFA has to throw money in the UEFA cup immediately, or else it will just become the new Cup Winners Cup, which was abandoned. It's all about money and TV-rights.
  13. To be or not to be.... lies on Villa being in Europe or not. So a big yes from me
  14. Koumas and Kamara? Damn that would be extremely shit. Yakubu would be a nice player to have, instead of Juanpi Angel.
  15. Having watched Quaresma the last week against Chelsea, he does look a very talented footballer. However, I think that he'd get on alot of our fans nerves, if you thought Baros' diving/complaining was frustrating then Quaresma is not for you. I also reckon that he'll end up at a While we're talking about Portuguese midfielders, what are peoples thoughts on Simao? Simao would be ace, he is also a specialist with corners and free-kicks. Quaresma would frustrate people, but not the way Baros made us feel because he is such a talented player compared to him. Tricks and flair makes you love him, and ignore the other bit that might follow.
  16. The CL can easily be won based on pure luck over a season (on top of some level of skill of course) You have seen Monaco, Porto and Liverpool in recent finals, none of them who has a good enough team compared to all the others. The Premiership isn't disputable, you win because you are good for 9 months. I don't want to win the CL for everyone to say "you don't deserve it", like Liverpool, I want to win the Premiership because it would mean we are better than ManU, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool, which also means we are good enough to win the CL some time that year or the next
  17. If you are talking down David Villa you just haven't seen him play. He is Wayne Rooney, just better as a striker and not so good at the things Rooney do. Young, great finishing and destined for great things. He takes corners, free-kicks and penalties as well.
  18. Charlton won today but they could easily hit a run of bad losses. If they relegate, Darren Bent will go and he might as well go to us. That's why I hope they go down.
  19. Prices go down when they relegate, they just want to get more money in to buy new players. Interesting to see what happens with Carlos Tevez!
  20. Well my impression is that he has been injured all of the time, which is very frustrating... He is back now ain't he? If he stays fit then, well, OK.... but if not then let's make a decision.
  21. We need a guy who can do the odd thing unexpected, the player who other fans wants to see when we are on TV, but not see when we are playing them. We need a free-kick/corner-specialist who can give us 10 extra goals per season. There are many players who can fit this bill, any suggestions? I know Quaresma wouldn't leave Porto for Villa though (I didn't have him under my Ins-list mind!). He is playing for the best club in his native country and making money which is just as good as what we would offer him. They are playing in the CL every season, we are under the middle of our own table as of now and last year. I would like a player such as him though. Ribery anyone?
  22. I never said Carew out. Bent, Moore, Agbonlahor, Carew and Ashton? Yes please. It would give room for rotation, rest, mixing and tactics. Agree on NRC, like I said I am unsure about him. I haven't seen a lot of him to be honest, but the hype is very, very much around him. And I wonder why? A bit like Scottie Parker who was also under the same type of hype at Charlton.
  23. Outs and why Mark Delaney - Free (Gives us nothing except injuries) J'Lloyd Samuel - 500K (Offer us nothing as he is totally off everything) Martin Laursen - 1M (His ability is wrecked by injuries that doesn't justify his wages) Patrik Berger - Free (He is old and he is injured a lot, get him out) Lee Hendrie - 2M (Don't really rate him anymore) Eric Djemba-Djemba - 1M (Take the loss and get him out) Aaron Hughes - 500K (I don't even think of him as a squad-player anymore) Chris Sutton - Free (Thanks for the goal against Everton. A superb career) Juan Pablo Angel - 1M (Go to Spain and succeed a bit in the league you are fit for) Total income (not that it matter): 5M Ins and why - realistically Darren Bent - 12M (One of the best strikers in both the league and England) Dean Ashton - 5M (His club will relegate, better than Carew as a target man) Nigel Reo-Coker - 5M (There is a lot of hype around him; worth a shot?) Phillip Bardsley - 2M (Very hungry and he has been tutored by the best) Curtis Davies - 5M (Unlikely, they will promote. I like the looks of him though) Scott Parker - 8M (Very unlikely as he is at a club equal or bigger than ours) Mathieu Bodmer - 6M (French playmaker with a lot of "it" in him I think) Don't buy him and why Craig Bellamy - Never settles, never gets his talent out and very disturbing The important thing in situations like this is to never believe you are better than others. Why should he succeed at Villa when he doesn't do it other places? Star-buy watch Quaresma Well 99% on here hate C. Ronaldo for various reasons. Some hate him because he dives, some hate him because of the England-thing, many hate him because he is an amazing player and I guess many hate him purely on the fact that he looks better than them. Fair enough, but Quaresma is exactly like him. Why? They are best friends! (or so I have read) Quaresma is greasy(er) than Ronaldo, works less in defence and dives a lot more. Other than that he is very good, has great technique and perhaps better crossing than Ronaldo. I would love him here, would you?
  24. Because Bellamy, like Carew, is another of those who never holds one club during 5 years. He transfers all over the place and never gets comfortable. That says something about a person, and certainly in his case!
  25. David Villa, maybe the most highly regarded striker in 2007, would cost around 30M if any club was to buy him and he wanted to go. He is young and he bangs in goals. You don't just buy him now, you buy him for 7-8 years and he will score 25 each season. Ability + potential + reputation + contract length + goals = 30-35M 12M? Get out of town, you wouldn't get even get Darren Bent for 12M (so it seems)
