  1. Good post. McLeish aint a bad manager. I wouldnt be against giving him a crack at it. We could do worse tbh I agree. I know a lot of people are talking about his dire football, but I don't see any reason he'd have to play that style with the better players he'd have available at VP. Did he play shit football at Rangers? (Serious question). Or does he just play that at SHA because the players are of limited ability?
  2. Gullit about to be sacked So, given the timing it can't be coincidence and he's clearly nailed on to be the next Villa manager. Or at least the press will make that seem the case before long.
  3. Just finished and currently reading
  4. Is Mcleish honestly the best available ? - in 3 premier league seasons - 2 of them have ended in relegation. Mark Hughes IMO is a better manager - and is currently unemployed - ok we need fulhams permission - but thats only similar to Mcleish I would rate McCleish and Hughes on pretty much the same level. McCleish never really had a great deal to work with at the shite and better managers would still have faced difficulty. That's not to say he would be my first choice (or 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th for that matter), but I accept that (a) my choices may not be available, whatever the board are offering and ( my choices are not necessarily the best choices.
  5. So, am I the only person in the world that things McCleish could actually do ok here and is a decent manager? However, if he were appointed (I don't think he will be) then sadly some elements of our support will work overtime to ensure he is never seen as a success, whatever he does.
  6. I believe there has been contact, Nothing more. MM said he has been ruled out. Then why contact him? Did they ask him where the best place was, to get a tan? Taylor was one of those appraoched for their advice when MoN walked out, and guess what...he mentions Maclaren, and suddenly we are contacting him. Hopefully, after the Villa PR team read the anti Maclaren sentiment on here and other forums, they pulled the plug quickly 8) Contact could also mean he approached us.
  7. Along the same lines, recycling. You're apparently meant to wash everything before putting out for recycling; using water and energy. The recycling process itself i believe is quite energy intensive. Do we save enough on the recycling to make all this worthwhile?
  8. The answer is in the question. He's way out of our reach. (but he's still be mentioned somewhere in this thread)
  9. Which part of that ridiculus statement was 'like last season'? when did MON leave? when did houllier take over? during which time did the transfer window not expire? coincidence? Is this serious? Please tell me you are on the wind up, or 8 years old?
  10. Stoke after Kabore from Marseille apparently. Poor mans Reo-Coker imo.
  11. I would rather have that tramp whom lived under the Holte end 8) I thought that was O'Leary!!??!! Nah, it was Salfiou.
  12. I doubt Darren Bent has any more idea than we do at the moment who the next manager will be. I believe he's just stating the sensible and obvious fact that any new manager needs to be given time.
  13. I'd rather Hoddle than Steve Mac. In fact, I'd rather the joker.
  14. I'm sort of coming around to this way of thinking as well. There are some very bright managerial prospects out there (the three you mention in particular, plus maybe Coyle), but one of these would be a huge gamble that could easily backfire.
  15. Hmmmmm who to believe, the man himself or a man who makes his living off writing stories. Actually, technically you only have a choice of 'a man who makes his living off writing stories' and 'a man who make his living off writing stories'. Unless you have seena spoken interview with Ancelotti ? Why does no-one realise they can both be true? Villa have spoken to representatives of Ancelotti's, as Kendrick said, but have not spoken directly to Ancelotti, only to his advisors, as Ancelotti has said. It's not that complex.
  16. Who then went on to do very very well for a while, in the face of an initial shit storm of criticism for not being a big name. Very true. Won 7 of his first 9 games. Only lost twice, both times at home to Bolton and Barnsley. All started to go a bit wrong when he started believing his own hype though Going totally off topic, but I thought that Barnsley game was a 0 0 draw? Just remember shot after shot some how not going in. Edit: No, just looked it up. Lost 1 0. Memory is a funny thing.

  18. STEAK JUST FOR YOU! Good for Marseille at least Hopefully he has some players left to work with in August....
  19. How can Lerner have a terrible record of appointing coaches since? MON wasn't a bad appointment for us and Houllier didn't work out, it aint he hasd appointed 6 managers in since he has been here. Without Randy's money we would not have the expectations we have, Randy has got us there which I think a lot of fans do not appreciate. Lerner is the best thing to happen to our club in a long time. I would rather have an owner like Lerner that the Venkys at Blackburn. judging by your post maybe you would prefer the latter. He may be referring to Randy's record in American football, which I have know idea about really but understand the Brown's have made some questionable appointments. Personally, I don't believe that has any bearing on our situation. His only appointment at Villa is Houllier and I personally don't see it as a bad appointment.
  20. No, it's much more fun to slag of the board for something they may or may not have done.
  21. Pretty sure Randy has a phone and will be involved in the decision :!: Probably right - but I would prefer it if he were here pulling the strings. I m starting to precribe to the 'he's lost interst theory' - you ain't gonna nail a top manager via the telephone. I might put a few quid on easy option Mclallister But Randy doesn't need to be involved in the initial negotiations, finding out who's interested. I'm sure he's had some input as to who would be on a short list (but not to much) and once someone from that list is coming in for serious talks Randy will be in the UK. He really doesn't need to be here the whole time.
