  1.

Team is looking a lot stronger

I think the squad is looking stronger but the first team looks barely effected - Okore for Baker/Clark and thats about it

Good stuff so far but I'd like to see another couple that are confirmed first teamers - Luna and a really good CM (unless Lambo think Gardener is ready for that role)

How much are Bents and Irelands combined wages?

I think thats the stratagy here, to replace them with two quality signings on less wages and whom will improve and fit easily into  the first team.

  2. Well, I'm glad we got our new players in early!

Im still of the opinion that we will need to bring in some better quality, and these fixtures just emphasize it. The players brought in will help competition within the squad, but we just dont know how they will fit in or settle just yet. Im pretty sure we will be adding that quality in the next couple of months once we have shifted some.

  3. It's simple. Board are in charge of the club. Manager is in charge of playing staff. Consultation happens when it comes to new signings. But the board take the blame for financial reckless spending. Manager takes the blame for poor signings.

Thing is, at the time MoN was wasting money on some mediocre players (i say some because we foget about the Ashley youngs), we had nobody on the board who knew anything about football. Somebody whom could of said " hang on Martin, thats a little much for a player thats past it". Whos fault was that, and we still dont have anyone with that knowledge.

There's no question that Lerner has made mistakes but it looks like he may have learned from them.

Can you explain why you think he has learned from them, or what evidence is there he has? He's merely slashing the wage bill and drastically reducing spending because he has to, he's run the club into this situation. Also we got lucky last summer that there were a few good managers available and nobody else wanted Lambert. His signing of Benteke was the key to us staying up.

The fact that he is bringing the wage down to a sustainable level from where it was could be seen as evidence that he is learning his lessons.

Ive noted the word "could" since it may equally mean that he is bringing costs (debt assembled by his decisions) down for an easier sale.

  5. People somehow thing that merely putting money into a club absolves him of any blame for other mistakes. He came in and mismanaged the club financially, then made 2 years of shambolic managerial appointments and he was rather lucky Lambert was the blindly obvious choice last summer.

An owners job is not simply about putting money into the club. People should realise that.

    This :thumb:

  6.

It's not so much praise I guess, it's more that we should be grateful that we have an owner prepared to lavish enourmous sums of money on our team, it's a blessing. Of course on the other hand, if he wasn't so occasionally bone stupid, he could probably do a lot more with it. I'll take generous and daft though.

I'm struggling to see why we should be grateful for the last 3 years. Especially when the last 2 have been the worst in our premiership history.

I think the argument is that "oh well, hes nothing like Venky's, so lets cream his arse"

We have been transformed into the new Bolton because of the decisions he has made, and we are supposed to say thankyou.

    Staggering :D

  7. I don't think anyone can seriously question Lerner's financial commitment to the club. Yes, question his wisdom for giving O'Neill such a free reign, yes, wonder what on gods earth made him think it was a smart idea to appoint Alex McLeish, but the guy has put his own money in in spades. To me that says he does care. He just knows we need to be run differently now. Fine by me. I'm in no rush to see the back of him, the grass ain't always greener...

    .......but sometimes it can be.

  8.

He has a beard and that is what matters.

Yeah what's with the beard, i thought they had a barber in Seville?

Yeh! He could easily of saturn had a short back & sides too! :)

Stop talking out of uranus :P

  9. just for the financial posts above.

Randy put in around £105m as equity (ie: doesn't have to be paid back).

He also put in around £105m as loans with low interest rates (Libor +2%).   He never took any of the interest over the years of the loans, and as at last year this had added up to £21mill interest owed in total.   Randy then wrote off this £21mill, in effect giving all his loans interest-free.

    Overall hit to Randy - £64m to buy club +£105m equity + £21m interest write-off = £190m.   plus £105m loan still outstanding.

Well with those figures. he's just not going to let that continue. Lets hope he does still care and not sell us without finding a decent owner.

  10. Luna played for Mallorca on loan for 11 games at the end of last season.

Alan Hutton also played on loan at Mallorca.

Has he given Lambert a scouting tip?

    Huttons revenge?

  11.

Lerne has made his fair share of mistakes but seems to be putting them right with Lambert and backing him in the transfer market.

    I stopped right there.

     Why?

Re-reading what i wrote i guess it could be misconstrued. I was more trying to point out that lamberts transfers (for the most part) are low fee's/low wages and potential where as in th past it has been the complete opposite. If Lerner was as stupid as some make out then we would have mark hughes or someone of that ilk in charge blowing money on sub par premiership players. All indications are that Lerner has learnt from that approach hence the massive change over the last 2 years in the way the club is being run.

Its to early to tell one way or the other at the moment. The only definitive answer will come when the Window slams shut, so im happy to wait and see. Im only basing my ideas on Lambert s quotes and the way the club has been run for the last couple of seasons, and the fact his lost interest since the divorce.

Its no coincidence our fortunes changed at the same time. But who knows?

  12. Technically, this guy will be better than Bennett. Dont care about that no one knows anything about him, hes Spanish and will have been taught the right way. Up to Gordon to raise his game ;)

  13. Lol Another player I had to look up on Wiki. The only player other than Guzan that I had heard of was Bennett and even then I knew precious little about him.

Paul Lambert's Villa revolution continues full speed ahead.

I really hope these deals don't backfire however in Lambert I trust.

Its about beefing up the squad before pre-season training starts, looking at it and then pinpointing where we feel quality is needed most. I guess money is tight again so its using what he has got to get the numbers up, then using cash from sales to bring in the quality.

  14. I was always a medium for the Nike shirts and then was a small in the Macron shirts. I take it I should still stick with the small?

That, or go for a few more happy meals.......
