Kerr Smith (St Johnstone) 10th/12th [Scottish Premier]
Away at Celtic (3-1) - Not in the squad.

I think Kerr's loan was cancelled as reported on Friday

    justice for Orgreave.

    Quite.

I was too young to remember the political machinations, but I remember seeing the police on horsies with their truncheons in the newspapers and on the telly.

Seminal moment. Both for the young minds of me and my friends growing up to bear witness to, and as others have alluded to, for the country as a whole.

I have to say mine are pretty helpful, but the thing I tend to lose each time I ask them a question is hundreds of pounds for the next license

    I'm buying a shed.

I want to put it at the back of my garden, only potential issue is the neighbour at the back of the garden has a wall onto our garden that will be slightly shorter than our shed.

It's the side of their house so I can't see it making any difference to them whatsoever, but also I don't know them so they might be mental.
So I want to make sure I'm doing everything by the book.

However I'm getting conflicting information online.

Some sites say the shed has to be 2.5m tall or less if it's within 2m of the property boundary.
Others say it has to be 2.5m tall or less AND more than 2m from the property boundary.

I'd rather the former was the case, as it being 2m from the back wall would look a bit odd. But like I said i want to do everything by the book. Does anyone have a robust source? Or knowledge?

The legal disclaimer bit, as ever, is contact your local authority (Council planning dept) and enquire - but as I understand it the rules say that if it is within 2m of any boundary then the total height of the building (including roof) must not exceed 2.5m.

The difference being that once 2m away the building could reach 3m - 4m in total with different style roofing but the eaves must still be a maximum of 2.5m

    Quote
    • Outbuildings and garages to be single storey with maximum eaves height of 2.5 metres and maximum overall height of four metres with a dual pitched roof or three metres for any other roof.
    • Maximum height of 2.5 metres in the case of a building, enclosure or container within two metres of a boundary of the curtilage of the dwellinghouse.

as others have said Planning Portal

I think the source of information changing is the key issue. Where and from whom people get their news. It started in the US when they were allowed create partizan news channels in the 80s. Stopped the laws requiring TV networks to show impartial news. From there

I'd certainly argue that the roots of the problem pre-date the 1980's and the ditching of the Fairness Doctrine in '87. Bernays was writing books about propagana in the 20's and helping the CIA overthrow democraticaly elected foreign governments (Guatamala et al) in the 50's. The film Network was made in '76.

it's just spiraled with the internet and particularly social media where people get fed "news" which keeps them engaged on a platform. Also negative emotions keep people more engaged than positive, so "news" which people are outraged by is what to feed people. I think we are seeing the consequences of that in our society.

I do think more people are realising this effect now, there is a rise of people being more aware information you are fed is via other people and they will add their spin or their views to the information, or sometimes completely misrepresent something. Now AI will be able to create legit fake video footage means people will be foreced to disbelieve more and more.

Agree with this bit. I'd add that it's very much by design. Surkov's 'non linear warfare' is hardly confined to Putin's Russia.

The ditching of the Fairness Doctrine certainly helps to enable the misinformation of the post truth era imo, but it hardly codified impartiality, much like our ofcom rules. It more stated that opposing opinion(s) must be presented alongside others, with hindsight perhaps leading to the birth of counterpoint journalism, itself I'd argue contributing massively to the proverbial race to the bottom in news standards.

    it seemed pretty direct.

Having re-read it it is particularly badly worded. I'm just going off the thought that if it had been anyone else there might have been the potential for a bit of doubt in my mind, but the day @tonyh29 is posting in defense of any "lefty loons" is the day we all know he's been hacked or we're living in a sim, or both :D :detect:

Superb result for Italy in Cardiff - their best ever 6 Nations and should’ve had a penalty retaken to beat France.

Wales looked clueless until a couple of replacements came on. Their transitional phase is going to be long and painful as they just don’t have the talent coming through in their domestic league.

I think there'll be lots of reflection after this tbh. The fans consoling themselves with it being a young team is only going to last so long. The WRU stumble from embarassing expose to embarassing expose. And you're not alone in bemoaning the state of the proverbial conveyor belt.

The reality of gutting the national league structure chasing the money with the franchises along the M4 is hitting home I think. The way Ireland set up the provinces might be the way out of it if 3 or 4 teams is Wales's quota in the professional structure over by here. But in reality the professional game is being run by the WRU in Cardiff in a very Cardiff centric way.

Places like Pontypridd, Neath, Ebbw Vale and so on that historically churned out players are places with real social issues, poverty, unemployment, crime, drugs - and will likely never have the funding to compete or even operate at any national level.

It's far from the death knell of Welsh Rugby but they're proper hurting tonight. The streets are deserted by me.

  8. Ocasionally the father in law drops bits of food off at ours. Stuff he doesn't really want but bought on a whim or something he's changed his mind about. He's quite faddy with his eating, what he fancied one week he might not fancy the next week, and so occasionally we end up with his 'gifts'.

This is how I ended up with something called Brooklea SKYR yoghurt in my fridge. A passion fruit flavoured one and a strawberry flavoured one. We tried them yesterday.

It had the consistency of foamy plastic and a taste which I could only try and describe as what I imagine every carcinogenic artificial sweetener mixed up together must taste like. Utter rancid shite. 2 spoons and in the bin. File under 'legally food'
