  1. http://news.ladbrokes.com/en-gb/football/premier-league/lambert-sticking-with-lower-leagues-for-first-aston-villa-january-signing_133887.html He was supposedly going to be our first January signing according to this which was posted 5 days ago and I dont recall any backlash!
  2. What I should have said is that there must be another big scandinavian CB knocking about that we can snap up like we did with Vlaar. I didnt actually mean he had to be Swedish and the reference to Mellberg was an example of the type of player I would like to see come in.
  3. Surely we didnt just look at Vlaar when we were scouting pre-season, we must have had a shortlist of CB's in Holland/Scandinavia. Who else was on it? There must be another Mellberg over there waiting to be snapped up! Vlaar came out of nowhere for us, I'm hoping there will be a repeat of that along with Coutinho, Gouffran and M'Vila. In the meantime we may as well accept any offers on Given, Bent, Hutton, Warnock, Dunne, Ireland, N'Zogbia & Makoun as none of them play much, make no effort when they do and are costing the club too much in wages.
  4. You could be right but if Giggs and Scholes can still do it then surely Becks can seeing as hes always been one of the fittest players about. Ok his legs probably arent what they were but I bet he can still put the ball on a blade of grass from 50 yards, he can read the game and his work rate is immense. Not forgetting the experience he would bring. If he couldnt help us get a few points against some fellow relegation candidates then i'd be surprised. It kind of irrelevant anyway seeing as he probably wouldnt come but at least we would be seen to be actually trying to avoid relegation instead of rolling over and being kicked out of the premiership!
  5. I think we should put a serious loan offer to Beckham and Robbie Keane to help dig us out of the shit. Can you imagine what that would do for the youngsters!? Doesnt matter how much they want in wages compared to the cost of relegation. Neither would probably be interested but can it hurt to ask? Just daydreaming really because I'm getting bored and fed up with how quiet the transfer market is at the mo.
  6. Just been reading the carling cup rules and the only one I can find regarding player eligibilty is this: 6.1 A Player shall be considered bona fide if he is registered by his Club with The Football League, in accordance with the provisions of Football League Regulations or with the Premier League in accordance with The Premier League Rules save that Players registered on a temporary basis will not be eligible to play unless the loaning Club gives its written consent. No player shall play for more than one Club in the Cup Competition in any one Season. Therefore, I cant see any reason why a player signed from anywhere cant play in the second leg unless hes cup-tied.
  7. Ok, bad day at the office but this performance really stripped us bare and made it very plain for Lambert to see what he's working with. A thrashing by the champions of europe can happen to anyone but to be owned by a team 3 divisions below you is a reality check so hopefully there will be some emergency meetings going on behind the scenes with a positive outcome. Keep your heads up lads, Bradford played out of their skins and their GK had the game of his career but I feel we will easily put 3 past them at VP, maybe more. Hopefully we will have the players in we need by the end of Jan to put up a good show in the final. We've got to keep behind the manager and team as we are the only stable part of the club right now. If we turn on them now, when they most need us, they will sink without a trace. VTID!
  8. I would like to see Gouffran and Coutinho in for a bit of excitement and M’Vila in DM (he’s apparently just turned down QPR). It would also be nice to see another big Scandinavian CB to pair up with Vlaar just like the days of Mellberg & Laursen. Aubameyang is not worth pursuing as he will head off to African Nations Cup. I would think that little lot would cost in the region of £20M but if we ditch the deadwood i.e.: Makoun, N’Zogbia, Ireland, Dunne, Warnock, Hutton & Bent we would save money in wages and top up the kitty at the same time. I know we need experience but it’s no good if it’s all injured or sitting on the bench so why not trust in ability!? We can all dream…
