After taking a bump to the head playing rugby and having a suspected concussion, I went there (guessing you mean Otley) to get checked out as didn't want to burden A&E on a Saturday night. They wouldn't see me and sent me to St Jimmy's which was chaos. They took one look at me and said "Yup, it's a concussion. Go home."

Just shows how things have changed over time. As a teenager I got a concussion playing rugby. Went into A&E, was examined quickly by a Dr and admitted to hospital overnight for observation. I had puked a couple of time as well so I don't know if this made a massive difference (I suspect not). I was examined again in the morning and sent home .  This will have been 30 or so years ago. Can you imagine anyone getting a hospital bed now for a concussion?

I think part of the problem is that a lot of people still think the NHS is the thing I experienced all that time ago. The crisis it is in is still not really being covered, certainly not in proportion to the scale.

One last point. I worked selling tech into the NHS for a large part of my professional career. It was a big part of my job to understand the strategic direction of the organisation, how it was funded, what the priorities were and the political pressures.  As such I have been calling out for years that the position we are in now is the deliberate end game of consecutive conservative governments.

Labour are not without blame here too, the Blair years, whilst good for facilities and waiting lists etc still encouraged the growth of private interest and happily sucked on that lobbying teat.

But labour wanted the NHS to work. The Tory position has, for my entire life been to break it. To stop it working so they can sell it off. This is what it looks like when it breaks. It is why they won't raise a finger to fix it.

It makes me so angry to watch this happen over decades. It took generations to build the NHS, it is one of the few things that actually does make Britain great and the Tories have and are very deliberately stealing that legacy away from our children.

    Utter **** scum.

One of our local 'small' hospitals has a 'minor injuries clinic', but insists it has 'NO A&E'. Which requires some fine judgement on the part of the prospective patient.

I took my son to one of the minor injuries clinics after a fall at school, waited 2 hours to see someone and got told they can't treat him and to go to the A&E instead. Waited 4 hours there to be told to go home and. Come back if he gets worse.

If you haven't seen Glass Onion yet on Netflix, without giving too much away, it's nice to see the whole "Musk is a genius" narrative getting royally skewered like this. The whole film is basically a relentless "**** that word removed Elon Musk" in dramatic form. The Musk character is called Miles Bron, which is an anagram of Elon is Mr B.

It's managed to wind up loads of Musk bootlickers. Love it.

SPOILER ALERT: Don't read this thread if you haven't seen the film and want to watch it.

Or just never read anything written by Ben Shapiro regardless of spoilers. The guy is an absolute bell end.

Got round to buying this after testing the Beta version. EA want shooting. The demo was brilliant. Fluid, felt fun to play, pinging passing and good AI player movement. Jesus this is sluggish, slow, at times unresponsive. Even the menu is sluggish. What the hell have EA done!?

I'm staggered how they can mess up what felt in the beta release a great return to how FIFA used to play.

They seem to do this every year. The problem is, as a community we keep giving them obscene amounts of money, despite them constantly providing a buggy mess. No competition, no consequences, no incentive to do better.

The one thing? 🤣 Show is full of bad writing. My explanation

      Hide contents

The writers want the audience to trust Halbrand, so saving Galadriel makes them trust him. This will increase their surprise when he turns out to be Sauron.

This is the same writers that had Galadriel jump into the ocean with what a plan to swim back to Middle earth!?

    Nail on head.

After the Meaning Evil gave him a 9 out of 10 i googled him and this came up. Beautiful passer of the ball and really aggressive in the tackle

He has a wonderful left foot on him.  Takes all the set pieces including this free kick from last night.... (4mins in roughly).  It was his assist at 2.43 from the corner too.  His striking of the ball really does stand out.

Almost forgot that he scored the last goal from the spot too, another clean and powerful hit.

  7. I will remain hungry until I eat something. I shall also stay in bed until after I wake up. I will not drive the car until after I have started the engine.  F me how does anyone think to press send on a tweet like that.

  8. I don't get why energy companies get to hold a surplus. It's my money, I'd rather have it in my account than sitting with a massive energy company. It's 100% to cover their risk. They get an accurate reading from my smart meter, I've never defaulted on any bill, so why do they think holding 500 quid of my cash against future use is ok? I'll pay them when I use the energy thanks very much.

  9. Andor is a breath of fresh air in the Star Wars universe. It has nailed what I would want out of TV Star Wars. It is on my personal list of all time great SW stuff including the films. Probably in my top 3.

It is a such a compelling setup ,the rise of an empire creating the conditions for its own downfall. The crushing threat the Empire wields combined with it's own casual cruelty and central power base resulting in low level incompetence and grasping ambition. Serious Putin vibes.

With this world to live in, it is set up for drama, and tension and high stakes. All you need then are decent characters to behave in a logical way and you have a show worth watching. It feels like for the first time in forever that they have just told a good story rather than have the writing be a a vehicle to get you from one big visual set piece to another.

There are good strong action scenes in Andor. They happen very organically and have greater impact for them.

    Spoiler

The tractor beam destruction and subsequent spinny Lazer tie fighter destruction was very satisfying to watch.

Of course there were some really strong acting performances, the leads were excellent and most of the periphery cast were at least serviceable.  The relief I feel that they just told a good story and gave us as audience members enough credit that we could watch a show without all the clowning around is palpable.

I really really hope they can take the lessons from this show

  10. Even if it is some sort of revenge for Monaco, it is the most petty minded, pathetic form of revenge. Max won last year, he won this year, he is on the top and by some distance and he still feels the need to settle the score? Even if Perez did crash deliberately,  he has been doing a solid team job helping Max win on countless occasions. Apparently all the good things count for nothing if there is a single bit of red in the ledger.

I hoped we had seen Max grow up a little bit this year, but petty stuff like this just confirms what an asshole he really is. It is all but impossible to enjoy watching him win even when watching him be quite brilliant.

Slight problem with this. Currently there's no way to get HIMARS units across the Dnipro and I think Ukraine maybe wary of pushing them across and getting them potentially captured, So for now, the range is the range. Very telling that they've buggered off after two days though. If Ukraine can get the HIMARS across the Dnipro safely with the ability to retreat then that is the next game changer in that direction I think

Well at least I got the bit about me not being an expert right ☺️

  12. The thing is, if the Russians keep retreating beyond the range of the artillery, then all the Ukrainians have to do is keep moving said artillery forward.  I'm certainly no expert, but I don't think running away is a winning strategy. It's good for not getting blown up, but a strange strategy for holding territory. All that said I'm all for the running away and not getting blown up tactics, long may they continue.

I just had a look and decided I’d need several cups of coffee before I try to sign up. I got the impression you needed to join a certain group to get on the platform. Most of the groups I saw were French. I think I’m doing it wrong.

This isn't just doing it wrong. This is you Mastodon it wrong.

Have any of the latest patches fixed the slider/personal settings resetting randomly yet?

Just checked and the answer is no.  There is a work around that involves saving all your settings to your profile, but it just makes it a bit quicker to reload them, it does not stop them from resetting.
