  1. I'm not arguing but England play with a star above their badge when they play in the European Championships.

    That does not make sense!

Ladies and Gentlemen, remember Chewbacca. Chewbacca is a Wookiee from the planet Kashyyyk who carried a gun and ran from the mob. But Chewbacca lives on the planet Endor. Now think about it. That does not make sense. Why would a Wookiee, an eight-foot-tall Wookiee, want to live on Endor with a bunch of two-foot-tall Ewoks. That does not make sense.

But more important, you have to ask yourself what does this have to do with England having a star above their jersey in european championship games? Nothing. Ladies and Gentlemen, it has nothing to do with this England having a star above their jersey in european championship games. It does not make sense. Look at me, I'm talkin' about Chewbacca. Does that make sense? Ladies and Gentlemen I am not making any sense. None of this makes sense.

And so you have to remember when you're deliberating and conjugating stars above crests, does it make sense? No. Ladies and Gentlemen it does not make sense. If Chewbacca lives on Endor you must not have stars above crests in different competitions.

I know it seems nice. But ladies and gentlemen this is Chewbacca. Now think about that for one minute. That does not make sense. Why am I talking about Chewbacca when we are talking about stars above crests? Why? I'll tell you why. I don't know. It doesn't make sense. If Chewbacca does not make sense you must not have stars above crests.

I think I have made my point

 Alas I get it and it made me smile.

  2. Wow

I wasnt even aware there was a debate on this subject. I thought this was all perfectly clear, logical and straightforward

Does it realy matter if other clubs have it, or whether they will understand it's significance? It will mean something to me, a constant reminder of what the club is capable of.

This is what matters, well said ddid

The debate appears to be above. I would prefer to have the badge on our Champions League shirt only. I am also not to bothered what other teams do, but I am happy to set an example. It would mean more to me to keep it special.

  3. How special would it be to buy and wear that shirt knowing that it had to be earned and a real representation of the achievement of the new Aston Villa, but still referring to the glories of the past.

Thats what will make buying our Champions League jersey so sweet when the day does finally come.

And no small money spinner for the club as well. As a rule I tend not to buy the shirt, this may tempt me

  4. You know what, I was all up for getting a star above our badge, but this makes sense to me. I am not particularly interested about the opinion of other fans, but the point about only wearing the star when playing in the appropriate competition is hard to deny. Of course I am more disposed to this argument now I feel we have a real opportunity of wearing that star in the coming years.

How special would it be to buy and wear that shirt knowing that it had to be earned and a real representation of the achievement of the new Aston Villa, but still referring to the glories of the past.

  5. I am thoroughly upset by Padfields efforts at rousing the little Englander mentality in Villa fans. It is pathetic and unnecessary. I want to judge each bid on its merits, however given that AV06 are giving out little other than retoric I can only judge them on personality. I don't like Padfield. Not being American is not an advantage when purchasing a football club.

Understanding the needs and wants of your consumers (read fans) is an advantage. I am not on the same page as Padfield, I feel as disconnected from him as I ever have from Ellis from the little I have heard from him so far. He does not understand that Lerner has filled me with hope. He does not understand that I feel he is patronising me. He does not understand that as a"man on the terraces" I am an expert in recognising when I am being patronised. He does not understand that American is not a dirty word. I can tell the difference between a Glazer and a Lerner please don't behave like I cannot. He does not understand how disenchanted so many of us became under the desperate Ellis years and that we are not all motivated by a lust for money to be thrown at the club.

Don't get me wrong I want the investment, but most of all I want my club back. I want the links with the fans reformed, I want to feel emotional ties again, I want to feel that the person in charge knows what I as a fan and a consumer want. Lerner is offering this to me. It may be spin, it may be PR, but he has laid his cards on the table I like the hand he was dealt. Padfield has campaigned with all the subtlety of a red top headline writer. I don't like the sentiment, I don't like the ideas behind the sentiment, I don't want that attitude in charge at my club.

Most of all I fear that Pafield just does not understand period (another not to our American buddies). Padfield I don't believe you. I think you are lieing to me to get your investment through. I am fed up to the back teeth with being fed lies by Ellis for years and you are beginning to remind me of him. I don't think I can be much more cutting that that really.

Could the last one to turn their back on AV06 please turn down the bid.

(edited for rather embarrassing speling error  )

  6. I am a big fan of the Learner bid. However as John Maynard Keynes said "Sir, when the facts change, I change my mind. What do you do?". Learners bid seems good to me, but it is possible for a bid to be better. I will look at the facts and form my opinion in the light of them and not before. Right now Learners is the only bid and my favourite. AV06 change my mind I dare you.

  7. I just heard Steele on Radio 5 talking about O'Neill being appointed. During the conversation he said that we would be taken over. There was no hint as to who it would be, but it was a straight up and down yes there will be a takeover.

  8. The squad is like Ellis himself. It's small, does not contain enough talent for the job in hand and both needed major surgery in the summer.

Ellis got his surgery, the squad got an elastoplast.

Even IF Baros comes the words were still much bigger than the actions and I will be watching yet more mediocre football at VP. So no they will still have lied to us.

  9. Can't say I'm the biggest fan of any of them, unlike Stan at left back I have always felt we could do better. I gave my vote to Delaney purely on the basis of his last ditch sliding tackles. I cheer them almost as much as I cheer goals. I'm really hoping Hughes will have the capacity to eclipse all of these.

  10. Bossie for me, his penalty stops really stood out. Pretty much the only keeper I can remember being pretty sure would stop any given penalty. Ian Wrights being a classic example.

Having said that, the other abiding memory I have of him is seeing Shearer leg him up, making Bossie spill the ball in to the path of David Batty (I think) for Batty to score. All with the refs back turned, I couldn't believe it when he turned round, saw the ball in the net and just gave the goal.

Never forgave Shearer that one either.

It's a shame Spink isn't on the list though, I would like to vote for him

  11. I just don't like the sound of this deal. In theory I'm quite pragmatic about seeing the back of DV. I've enjoyed his time here, but things change and for me he can be improved on. My concern is will the board actually get a striker in that will improve on him, or get another striker in at all. History suggests that we can really balls up negotiations for strikers (on the occasions that we actually try) so has DOL been counting his chickens.
