  1. Barrett gets it for me, at least when he didnt play well he could provide all with some new shoes!!!
  2. I can't help but doubt the guys ability. Yes he scored 21 premiership goals. Yes 10 of them were penalties. Yes he scored 11 from open play in a struggling side. But I really doubt that he is worth gambling on at the prices being quoted. If it were a toss up for AJ or Ashton for around £4 million, I would take Ashton every day. I would accept AJ if we signed him but I would be disgusted if we paid over £4 million for him.
  3. Staunton could do more than take a corner, he could bloody score them too. In his first spell here, he was awesome. Who remembers that goal in 92/93 at Old Trafford. Roberto Carlos would have been proud!!!
  4. I think he will feature quite regularly to be honest. O\'Leary likes him and he is, on his day, unstoppable with some of his shots and step overs. I think he and Solano will be rotated a little to keep them both fresh. I think he could be at his best and most dangerous coming off the bench with half an hour to go. He has great energy and an eye for goal. Not sure if he will be happy with that sort of role though.
  5. Wait for next week? Wait for what exactly?
  6. I dont think they are the only 4 that will be added but it is obvious that the next arrivals will not be DOL's first choice targets but fall back plans. Lets just hope that they are the quality we are looking for and not aging has beens i.e. Stubbs.
  7. Although a good marketing ploy, you are assuming that the Villa board are competent in the transfer market. They have done ok so far but ok is not sufficient!!!
  8. I am very sceptical about the notion of any transfers being completed this week. Thats not to say I don't expect any more, simply that we may take a bit longer to wrap up Distin, if rumours are to be believed, as the future of SWP would be a more pressing concern to Man City. Also, as we lost out on Bellamy and have turned our attention (apparently) to an unnamed striker (who?), I cannot imagine a deal being concluded so soon after the conclusion of the Bellamy saga. I may be wrong, but I would imagine that we may see some progress at the end of next week at the earliest.
  9. Maybe but I think Jagielka could do that and develop further. I don't think Konchesky will ever be better than Samuel!!!
  10. I'm not, although he would be competition for Samuel, I don't really rate him. I would much prefer Jagielka as I think he is extremely versatile and could make the step up. I for one would like to see Whittingham tried at left back. He is too light weight for midfield but his style would suit us (provided he could tackle) as he is not slow, he can play the ball out of defence and could provide an over lap and whip in a few good crosses. He has played there for the U20's and U21's too.
  11. Has anyone mentioned the possibility of Jon Dahl Tomasson. If Milan keep Crespo that will leave them with Crespo, Shevchenko, Vieri (now that he has signed) and Tomasson. Surely he cant be happy with that. £6 million? Who knows! but he will know Tommy and Laursen well and surely we could sign him on the quiet!!!!
  12. Pele of the desert, happy memories of another player with rave reviews failing at the Villa i.e. Curcic, Collymore, Balaban. Need I go on?
  13. Anyone fancy Steve Marlet, his loan from Fulham to Marseille has ended and Fulham have reportedly granted him a free transfer. He could be worth a punt for nothing! We could sign him on a similar deal to the one Newcastle had for Kluivert and see how it turns out.
