  1. So, you're saying only the hummel pants are quality? hehe.

I bought the nike made Brazil shirt for the 1998 world cup almost 10 years ago. I was 11, and it was Aus$110. HEAPS for me at the time, but I still wear it now, it is in excellent condition, and it has proved to be an excellent value purchase considering it looks only slightly worn after 9 years.

Very, very happy with Nike. In fact, the day after the deal was announced I bought myself some nike air runners to celebrate, and they are awesome too!

mate, why are you wearing clobber that you brought 10 years ago?

Maybe it's retro like my Brazil away from the same year, only difference is that I was 15 not 11. What can a fully grown adult wear that they could when they were 11?

  2. Ahh, the eternal "if I can find one example that differs then I prove everything is a hoax"!

If MON only bought players from Celtic I think there would be a riot on here.

But it's close to not being exaggeration though....

You know what mate no one cares who they played for as long as they do well for ASTON VILLA. These players that MO'N is after from Celtic have got to be good if they can play with shit players like Lee Naylor and Paul Telfer and do well in the Champions League.

  3. There seems to be a common misconception that just because Nike are supplying our kits, this means Villa shirts will be available wherever Nike kit is sold.

This is not the case. It will always be up to the retailer whether or not he sells our shirts. We're not suddenly going to start appearing in sports shops in Truro and Inverness just because they stock other Nike gear - we'll only be stocked in those places if the owners think there is a market for our shirts.

The only way we're ever going to start shifting kits in places like that is by being successful on the pitch. Yeah, the Nike kit will be better quality and will look nicer, but that alone isn't going to start making people queue up to buy it at the Barcelona club shop.

Sunderland Nike kit was sold all over when they were sponsored by them and I know that I saw Wolfsberg kit at Barca. At least people who want to buy Villa kit will be able to buy it, it seems pretty basic but as others have said, the current situation isn't ideal.

  4. 3. Financial. I believe that the financial package is more attractive to us than the Hummel deal. I think someone mentioned something like £5m a year, though can't remember who.

If you can get this informatioon I will quite happily say that this is a better deal, but I want hard facts, not some people who see teh Nike swoosh and go weak at the knees.

Would the man who matters, the owner do that? If so, why? Is this billionaire a muppet? Do tell.

So you're basing somebodies intelligence on their financial worth. I trust you never questioned the previous owner then, unless of course you're worth a cool 100 million yourself.

He could be right, I would like proof before I blindly follow, that's all.

I could base it on him being a Cambridge graduate but won't go down that route. Everyone can see that we are going in the right direction as was MO'N when he took the job after meeting with Lerner. Now if we are going in the right direction and clearly on our way back to being a force again would you expect us to have smaller offers for being our kit manufacturer? Wouldn't Hummel increase their offer for us?

The size of our sponsorships will be reflected by the investment which the chairman puts into the team and in comparison to previous regimes, that has been substantial and he will back his manager again this summer.

  5. Fulham's deal is a 3 party distribution deal, not direct with Nike I believe. Always worth checking your facts before you post...

But it's still Nike, so surely it will still be sold in a Nike store, as was the point I was making wrt the shirts being stocked in the Barca store. Please read the thread before you post.

    What crossman said!

  6. Ok, how easy is it to get an Aston Villa Hummel kit? Outside Birmingham it is pretty hit and miss from what I have found. The Nike distribution network however is vast and our shirts will be stocked in shops within markets where our shirts have been practically impossible to get.

Are you saying that a Nike store in L.A. will stock a Villa shirt?

I think that is a good shout seeing how few teams they choose to sponsor, we could also have a presence in the club shop of Barca which has a section devoted to shirts of other Nike teams and countries. Not sure if they do that in their sponsored club shops, I can't really see it at Old Trafford or Celtic but certainly the likes of Barca with it's great tourist footfall.

Villa shirt in a Barca store? absolutely no chance I am afraid, it's only Man Ure and other really premier teams that get in there.

I thank you! You have proved my point, Nike have chosen us to be a Premier team because they BELIEVE in our owners business plan.

Villa ank Nike will be collaborating to have a store in Birmingham city centre in the future to reflect this partnership to fill the gap between Man Utd in the north and Arsenal in the south.

They must be really impressed with Fulhams plan then too, what elite company we are in.

Do your reseasrch on the Fulham deal in off tpoic, theirs is through a third party. I'm not prepared to go over that old ground, read the thread and the comments of NV on the issue.

  9. I was waiting for you to pop up on this thread, Poodle. The value of the details doesn't matter to us as we are a privately owned company and the owner seems very pleased with who is making our kit thank you very much, the most popular sports brand in the World and one of up to 8 partners that we wish to have in the future.

Oh, sorry I thought (from the initial comment about the commercial dept.) that the deal with Nike was of a higher commercial value than Hummel. Don't know what made me come to that conclusion.

Do you think it is of higher commercial value?

I don't pretend to know, so I don't voice my opinion as fact either way.

Exactly, I want to get a kit, I can't from a shop over here, yet most other premiership kits are available... I wonder wht that is....

And Poodle, who is pretending to know anything?? People have voiced opinions...

I remember not evening seeing Villa kit in that outpost known as Newquay or the remote terrain that is known as York! Nothing more annoying than thinking that you have seen a Villa shirt on a hanger and then picking it up to find that it is that of West Ham!

  11. Well, as far as commercial monetary gain, I think you will find that Nike will sell far more shirts, Villa will have greater exposure due to the worldwide popularity of the Nike brand, greater sales, invoke greater revenue, the board have released no figures on the deal itself, but taking on board other premiership deals and the fact the Nike sponsorship budget is probably larger Hummels entire turnover, I would imagine this deal dwarfs the Hummel deal!!

Whilst I agree on running shoes quality, I see you don't mention Hummel in your list of sporting manufacturers, and with Nike being one of the biggest in the business (if not the biggest) they don't do to bad!

We have already benefited from a friendly with Nike sponsored Inter Milan, confident that we wouldn't have had this game without this sponsorship.

I see Nike are arranging our fixture list now.

No, they are making it possible for us to play teams that wouldn't normally do so.

Have you ever posted anything positive about the current board? Why not just try it once you big wind up merchant.

  15. I thought the Hummel kits were crap in quality, certainly when compared with Diadora and Reebok kit which I own and still wear after many years, the best kit I have is a Brazil away from 1998 which is stilll in excellent condition after wearing for years. I bought my nephews the Hummel kit last season and the tacky claret arrows down the side were stuck together in one place which caused a crease and I didn't want to pull them apart.

  16. Why the **** can't we attract the likes of Nike and Adidas, we get stuck with Hummel and diadora, Just what do our commercial dept do???

Just found this - what was that Bob Dylan song....

The times they are a changing ........

Certainly are.... good find, just shows the difference in class between the old board and new

    Nick,

I am interested in seeing the research that you have based this opinion on. What is the value of the Nike deal? What is the value of the Hummel deal?

  17. i have just heard a rumour from a guy at work, i work in a private leisure centre and i got talking to a guy about football, and he assured me that his mate who is a private investigator was given a job on someone in a hotel in leicester and he texted him while on the job saying that MON was havin a meeting with none other than Jermaine Defoe. i am in no way suggesting this rumour to be true before people start hating me if this doesnt happen, im just saying what this guy told me, to be fair he doesnt seem the bullshitting type. he is adamant this is not a made up rumour.

    thoughts??

    Magnum PI? :crylaugh:

    what does magnum pi mean.

again this is just what i have been told and i wouldnt post something just to make it up for the fun (or lack of) it

He was a Private Investigator played by Tom Selleck who lived in Hawaii and drove a Ferrari. I don't think he saw Jermaine Defoe though!

  19. i've just read that Barton and Parker have turned us down, hense us going for Reo - Coker

i'm starting to fear the financial muscle of West Ham abit, i'm not sure whether or not we will pay out the sort of wages West Ham and Newcastle are prepared too, to get the better players.

It seems West Ham want Barton as well now, if both midfielders go to West Ham, then Newcastle will probably sign Reo Coker who obviously wants to go there.

i'm getting a bad feeling that we are going to have to settle for second best with a lot of players i.e Koumas instead of Sneijder.

I hope the big wages, opportunity to be living in London or the opportunity to play infront of a guarenteed 52000 every week, doesn't play too much of a factor in where players go.

I need a big name signing to settle my nerves

If Big Sam needs a centre mid because Barton goes to West Ham I think Newcastle would be more likely to go for Kevin Nolan. No need to worry about insecurities regarding how we compare to other clubs, we will follow the market if we have to.

  20. A few points-

IF we were to sign Dean Ashton tomorrow the Spammers would post that he's a shite to average injury prone player.

    Was just thinking this.

There are very few players that, if leaving, fans could not make themselves feel better about by concentrating on the negatives & playing down the positives.

I have been going the Villa since 1988, and Paul McGrath & Gordon Cowans aside (and even when they left it was due to age) I reckon I could have done it with every other player we've had.

(Well, Dwight Yorke, but lets not talk about him :winkold:)

Although, that has been easier to do the last few years :?

    Platt?

Didn't think he was as good in 90/91, he'd started diving a bit - which, bearing in mind the era, was more of an issue then - & had his heart set on a big move to Italy.

Also helped fund the Big Ron revolution.

As a 6-8 year old when he was here in his pomp I loved him and his stats were great:

    1987-1988 Played 11 Scored 5 goals (Division 2)

    1988-1989 Played 38 Scored 7 goals (Division 1)

    1989-1990 Played 37 Scored 19 goals (Division 1)

    1990-1991 Played 35 Scored 19 goals (Division 1)

Even better record in 90-91 and we were shit that season.

  21. £6mil is way to much for Koumas, £4mil at a push. Ideally we will get Sneijder though, fork out the extra £4mil for real quality.

Err out of interest how do you know that Sneijder is real quality in english football? I'm not saying he might not be but..

He is a 'big name' as such but could quite easily be a flop in english football as has not been proven. You could argue that Koumas is proven, as has done well to a certain extent

Its the same old wanting the name before the quality, if a name is trendy or good on FM etc then they are going to be good in real life/do well automatically.

Koumas could be awesome, Sneijder could not and vise versa, we should all except who MON buys and support them as a Villa player, give them time to be good or bad then judge them.

Koumas won't be awesome he wasn't the last time he was in this division and even Bryan Robson a manager who likes a few creative players put him on the bench.
