I think his goal record was ok but his all round play was lacking so much. Compare to Watkins and it's night and day. Although Big Wes was an excellent passer.

Still he did ok and deserves a chance when he's back.

I don't think anyone is expecting him to replace Watkins, but when we are going to have so many games tightly compacted then Watkins will miss a few through injury, suspension  and tiredness.

I'd much rather a fully fit Wesley coming in than K Davis, I'm still scratching my head why Davis was given a new contract in the summer

Well done Deano. First Villa manager to win one since O’Neill. Well deserved. 👏

Has it seriously been that long?

I guess Deano must have won it in the championship during the 10 game winning streak, but in the prem no one? Just further shows how dull have the previous 10 years have been

  3. My Man Utd mates texting me saying how did Smith get it over Ole, especially "as we beat you"

Had to remind them that they beat us in January and even then it was because of a Pogba dive.

We only conceded 1 goal all month and won 2 of those games despite being down to 10 men.

Cry me a river. It's not exactly ideal for us either. It was a pain in the arse for both Villa and Toon when the Newcastle game was postponed, that has yet to be resolved. Other clubs have also been on the wrong end of postponements.

I can give you directions if you're looking for someone to feel sorry for Fulham.

Its not about the postponement games have been rightfully called off and our game should too, but nobody should be forced to play on short notice

The annoying thing about this scenario is that everyone has known since wed/th last week that Aston Villa will have to isolate for 10 days, so they could have starting rolling the changes from then rather than whispers about it on monday morning when we havent even had confirmation that the Villa Spurs game is postponed yet.

Wheres the organisation here? Its a multibillion industry and they seem so slow in making decisions. You'd expect them to be the sharpest tools in the box.

  5. If it comes down to it, i'd rather take a 3-0 loss that comes with a forfeit rather than send the kids out and potentially destroy our goal difference.

This will also get us greater sympathy in the football world as the narrative would be that we couldn't put a team together due to covid whilst other teams were allowed to postpone.

United States Mens National Team...but to be honest I prefer your suggestion.

    Haha

I knew, was just thinking it would be easier to just write USA as we all know Vassilev won't be playing for the womens team 😝

  7. I don't see why the Euros have to be cancelled or postponed, if they have to halt football for a month then just push everything back a month like how this season started late, just start 2021/22 in October. Play the Euros in August and finished by mid September.

It's not like fans have bought tickets so they have to stay on schedule

I would have thought Davis would play unless he has Covid

It was announced earlier today that the whole first team bubble (including the better u23s that train with them) will not be involved tonight

Not a bad word to say about him. Remarkable value. 2 million. Done a great job but this isn't his level. If he doesn't move in January, i think we'll move him on in the summer.

Pretty sure his contract is up in the summer anyway, it's been mentioned a few times on various podcasts I listen to

  10. I started following Villa in '87.. for me he's the most skillful player we ever had. I used to get to games extra early just so I could watch him ball juggle in the pre-match warm up.

He should be a legend, makes me sad he's not considered as one

    Thanks for this Omar

  11. Dele Alli is the type of signing we had been making in the last 3-10 years that got us in a mess.

Past it players on the decline who still demand massive contracts.

It's no coincidence that our fortunes started changing for the better when we started signing upcoming younger talent before they hit their prime .

Big no from me, that goes for Jesse Lingard too.

  12. Why are people suggesting Cash, I can't think of a single shot he's had all season. Where is this notion coming from, from so many people? Did he used to take them for Forest or something?

    Unless I'm missing a joke?

(notice how quickly this discussion moved to the 'predators in the bathroom' trope)

Maybe because that's where the true acceptance lies. When it becomes personal

I personally don't see any reason why any one discriminates against anyone else in any form of life..

But when it becomes personal, thats when people tend to draw the line.

Women by nature are more private than men, having a man getting changed next to them is uncomfortable hence why we have separate changing rooms to begin with. So having a stranger in the changing room who looks like a man (irrelevant that he is gender reassigned as she wont know that, as they've never spoken). Its cause for alarm, first thing you think is "what is this man doing in here?!"

So the bottom line, how someone feels on the inside is their own business, but when it encroaches on other people thats where it becomes different. So that's why people jump to the 'predators in the bathroom' trope

Gets said every time, but would be great if they could stream the U23 & youth games like they used to. Especially now they have made a new website. Can they at least give us a reason why not so we can stop asking every time.

Mr Purslow will be speaking to fan groups on Tuesday.

If there's anything you'd like us to try to squeeze into that conversation, let us know here!

Ever since the major push for women's football, they have put the u23s, u18s and academy coverage right to the back

Can you state to him that we as fans appreciate you are pushing womens football, but for those of us who used to follow the various youth teams and news would appreciate it if they could set up a separate account on the various social media outlets, so we can still follow the players who will be the future of the club.

This isn't a dig at women's football, just miss the coverage the academy used to get

I wouldn't worry too much about hypotheticals because the story is complete and utter bollocks anyway.

I don't think its is this time unfortunately, I've been reading about it, been in the works for 6 months and it's as far as clubs just needing to give their signatures apparently.

JP Morgan have apparently prepared a loan of $6bn to kickstart it.

I've got a very bad feeling about this, seems a lot more than the usual super league rumours that surface every few years.

What you have done there is identify two practical challenges in this idea ever happening:

    1] 'Playing fringe players and kids' in the league would simply mean that they do not finish in the European qualifying spots in their domestic leagues;

2] UEFA are indeed unlikely to drop the Champions League, which might potentially remain more popular.

These problems interact with each other. If these teams do not finish at the top of their national leagues, or even get relegated, then it will be harder to argue that the EUPL represents the best sides in their country, even if they cannot be relegated from the EUPL. Similarly, a new sporting venture carries inherent risk. They sometimes fail, like the North American Soccer League or the XFL or the Stanford Series. Promises of money are not always delivered, and ratings can be fickle. It would be ironic if the Champions League brand turned out to be stronger than the brand of the clubs themselves.

That's just it though, money talks, they will make a deal with UEFA for all members of super league to automatically enter the Champions League. UEFA won't say no to that as it adds more prestige to their tournament so will allow it.

That's why I was making the point of the them playing their reserves in the domestic league as their place in both European competitions will be assured. They will point to the fact that they cant qualify through their domestic leagues as they are also playing in another league. You just know they will come to some kind of arrangement, the greedy  b******s
