  1. One of the Villa View presenters has been caught being naughty..

    https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/lloyds-bank-worker-sold-customer-18845382

    Quote

A 'stupid' Lloyds Bank worker sold customer account details to her gambling addict friend for £50 each - who then swiped more than £80,000 from them.

In the space of a few months Jaspreet Marwaha, who now works for Sky Sports, supplied information on 82 accounts to Mohammed Saif Maqsood including how much money was in them.

At one point the 27-year-old part-time customer adviser 'laughed' at the prospect of going to jail for the plot.

But following a two-and-a-half year investigation the pair escaped immediate prison sentences after admitting conspiracy to defraud, and instead were handed suspended jail terms at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday, August 28.

Marwaha, from Hall Green, began working at the Shirley branch in Solihull in 2009. She sold bank account details from November 2017 to March 2018, when she was arrested after suspicions arose. A mobile phone was seized from her as was £1,500 in cash she said was for a trip to Dubai.

She only used to do the odd show with Dan Bardell when Julian was away, guess she wont be back now - or at least I hope she wont if Dan has sense.

Again - I thought he only came back in for the last couple of games. Thought Elmo played there mostly after the restart.

You forget even Konsa played at right back ahead of a fit Elmo whilst Guilbert was out

We had Konsa playing out of position at right back at the end of last season (and so were weaker in central defence as a result).  Not sure why people seem so certain that we didn't need to recruit here.  Maybe not top priority but just because it looks like being the first transfer to complete - it doesn't mean it was the first deal to be planned / put into action by the club (just the easiest?).  I like Freddy so hopefully the competition between them will help them both step up.  I think there are too many people at the club now who know how to run football / sports clubs properly to worry (too much) that we have spent money in one position and so will be short elsewhere.

    True,

Plus when you consider that Elmo is 33, if Guilbert gets another injury then can we really rely on a 33 year old to be playing twice a week? lets not forget its going to be a very compact season. Konsa had to switch to right back even though Elmo was available because of this reason a couple of months ago as well.

I think its a smart move getting a younger fitter right back to compliment Guilbert.

We know we will be signing strikers and wingers as well, so nothing to worry about!

I can think of several other areas that need to be strengthen ahead of right back. Seems a bit of a odd signing unless either Elmo or Guilbert get sold.

Its Bruces 2nd season, Elmo follows Bruce in the 2nd season for the last decade. Its an age old tradition.

Cash scores goals which is good.  But i am concerned again we dont seem to be linked with many players with premier league experience

Its essential we dont have another season like last

To be fair, last season was like 2 seasons in one. Everyone in the squad is now a seasoned premier league pro, so I'm not that fussed about signing premier league experience for the hell of it.

Our worst player last year was our most experienced (Drinkwater) and in the championship our worst player was also an experienced pro (McCorcack)

i dont know much about martinez, but from the few highlights of games i have seen, he looked a top notch goalkeeper.

Agree, I was very impressed with him. I'd actually say in my eyes he was the best keeper during the project restart period in the Premier League

I listened to the podcast too and whilst I agree with some of it, they are a very cynical bunch. I think they are being contrarian for contrarian's sake. An example is Grealish creating Keinan's chance against Arsenal. They mention that's not a big chance and Keinan still had to run and outmuscle a player. Whilst on the face of it that may be true. It was a massive chance created by unbelievable play that you would see someone like Messi do for Barca. Grealish does not play in the same position as Sancho or Rashford. They are forwards. Grealish plays from the left but is always in behind the midfield and between the lines. Foden and Mount are his competition. We all know it. Southgate knows it and I was dissapointed MOMs twisted it the way they did.

Edit: they've always been fairly critical of Grealish and comparing him to players of 20/30 years ago. It's an unfair stance given the teams he is playing in.

I came here to say the exact same thing, I'm a long time listener to this podcast and they don't rate Grealish as high as most Villa fans.

So just to add to what you've already said - It was strange them saying staying up wasn't down to Grealish but the whole team, sorry but if we didn't have Grealish we would have finished 20th.

Also they completely dismiss all of the stats, and refuse to even consider what most Villa fans are saying about Grealish playing in midfield by saying Grealish played most season left wing. Sorry but how many games did Winks start in CM? I bet Grealish started more in CM as thats where he was being selected first part of the season.

Also they don't consider how key utility players are in competition squads, by having some person who can play 2 positions allows you to pick an extra player in another position.

  8. I don't understand why some of our fans are happy for us to let Targett go for 25m, and at the same time happy for us to sign championship players for the same price?

Surely a good solid season in the premier league makes him a more valuable asset than someone who's had a decent season in the championship?

Targett was one of our best players last season, will only be better this season and still relatively young. I've also heard a few pundits saying he should have been in the England squad.

Why do we never rate our own players or always look for flaws in them?

Scores a lot though doesn't he? He did score 26 so i wouldn't mind him missing a couple!!

But like I said, we dont create those kind of chances so he wouldn't have scored 26 for us, well not in last seasons team. Depends who else we bring in..

It would have been better if he had more strings to his bow, if some of the goals he scored were curlers from outside the area, or taking on the last defender then placing it in the far corener, or rounding the keeper etc..

Every goal was a tap in in that clip.. (apart from 2 I think)

But we do though don't we. Think of Luiz should have made it 2-0 v Spurs H and El Ghazi should have made it 2-0 at Everton A , Wesley should have done the same v Norwich H

They just come to mind but they are exactly the sort of chance that Watkins gobbles up!!

But you're presuming Watkins scores every chance, he missed a lot of very easy chances on top of the ones he scored in the games I watched. He easily could have scored 30 plus last season, he missed similar chances to the ones you mentioned above

  11. ^ Nearly every goal in that clip is around the 6 yard box where it's been put on a plate for him. With some of those goal were shot straight at the keeper but he failed to save them.

Thats not me saying he's not a good player, but we simply dont create those kind of chances. I feel a striker who can create some of their own chances would be better for us, or someone who can curl it into the top corner.

Think thats the mistake we made when buying Hogan, his highlights clip was full of close range finishes and a few running through on goal latching onto a through ball.

I guess what I'm trying to say is when a player scored 26 goals in a season and you see that they were all types of goals then you dont mind paying £25m, but when nearly every goal is a tap in you start to think if he's a one season wonder and worth that kind of money.

  12. I think its pretty telling when we didnt try to get Reina back that we are not interested in a new keeper.

We have 4 on the books already, 1 outstanding, 1 good, and 2 average. But they can all do a job if Heaton isnt fit.

    Really not a priority.

Other than the fact he was a completely fecking selfish b*stard who would have easily been closed down by Prem defenders who knew he wouldn’t pass....ever?

No not at all, think it was more likely that if we didnt have him then we would have got relegated

Is every single linked player getting his own thread now?

    I hope so

The main summer speculation thread I see as more of a fantasy thread full of Kenneth Williams jokes and puns

At least with individual threads you can have a quick look at the latest page or 2 to see if theres been any development

  15. Remember him playing a few games a centre back as well, looked decent there but never got a run in the team. Might have been useful utility player had we got relegated, but he's not a premier league player so I'm fine with him leaving

6 against City when facing about 30 shots nothing to be ashamed of. And none of his mistakes cost us unlike reina's who could have gotten us relegated on the last day with his inability to step back and make a simple catch.

Simple catch is stretching it lol, but a more athletic younger keeper is definitely getting to it
