  1. A really excellent player on his day and far superior to Wilson, can't believe the number of people turning their nose up at this!

This excites me the most out of all the links so far this summer, and the one I want to happen the most

Getting to see our team play because Sunderland has a better online service than us.

    AVTV is an embarrassment.

To be fair, AVTV used to show pretty much all the U23 and academy games, even free on YouTube

But a couple of year sago they decided to push womens football and pretty much dropped anything to do with the youth sides on all social media fronts

I understand they want to push womens football, but I dont understand why they couldnt create new accounts for the youth stuff.

  3. If someone said we'd be replacing Guilbert with Cash a few weeks ago people would have laughed.

Even the posters on here who watch Forest regularly didn't think Cash was all that, but it seems the excitement of signing a new player has elevated the abilities of the new signing ahead of an existing very good player.

I hope this is just paper talk, but I want Guilbert to be our main right back to start the new season and when he drops standards then Cash to come in to see if he can do better.

Letting Guilbert go to bring Cash in would be much of a muchness and not really progression if an aging Elmo is still here as the back up choice.

I don't think he's impressive even if you decide to use goals per minutes played. He's played 9622 minutes. He's scored 36 goals from open play. That's 36 goals from 107 matches. So about 12-13 goals each season depending on where you cut your decimals.

Don't get me wrong, it's not bad. But I was hoping for better. And that's before we start talking about his injury history.

This is why I don't subscribe to this goals per minutes ratio thing.. people then start adding ghost goals onto tallys

If a payer is injured or not good enough to be selected every game then you have to accept he's injury prone or not the best option every game at the club you are buying him from.

Let's stick to real life stats instead please, he's hit double figures once in 5 years.

Is he playing less games than the average PL striker? I know he had injury problems a few years back, hence the lack of appearances. I don't know how often the average PL striker plays.

I'm using goals per minute, not appearances. 13 appearances doesn't mean he played 13 full games.

You can find the numbers here - https://understat.com/player/468

Does that include the injury times at the end of each game? which is roughly 4-7 mins

If you look at minutes per goal, last season is actually his only below average one. Assuming we know what an average PL striker looks like (and I'm not sure we do judging by this thread, tbh)

    19/20 - 365

    18/19 - 182

    17/18 - 250

    16/17 - 230

    15/16 - 153

His shots per 90 number was way down last season, at 1.64 vs 2.30 the season before and 2.42 the one before that. Which would probably explain the lower output. How much of that is down to him, and how much the supply?

Thats a double edged sword though, you have to ask why is he playing less games than the average PL striker?

    loss of form, injuries?

btw what formula did you use for 15/16 as youre suggesting goal every 1.5 games.. 5 in 13 is closer to 2.5

I’m not sure he’s massively in the decline. Just a very poor Bournemouth season overall. Their relegation is the only reason he’s available at such a price. His goal contributions in the last 3 years are right up there.

Like I said, one good season 3 years ago.. funny they try to extend it with the 2 years that follow..

Wilson was being linked with Chelsea for around £60m not too long ago. For the rumoured fee of around £17m it’s good business. He knows the Premier League, has a half decent minutes to goals ratio and is over his injury issues. Played nearly every game for 2 seasons. Get it done Villa.

The only thing that proves is that they dodged a bullet

He's only had one real productive season in the 5 years Bournemouth spent in the top flight.

His last season was very reminiscent of Gabbys relegation season with us. A player on the decline with little to no motivation left.

If we were after Josh King on the other hand.. that's something I would get excited about. Be a similar price and much the better player that can play wide or up front.

The speculation tag has disappeared from this thread >_>

I just saw that and rushed to the last page of this thread thinking we made another signing..

Think they just got the wrong thread as its still on the Matty Cash one?

  10. I watch a lot of Bournemouth, really don't rate the guy.

He doesn't really get involved in build ups, doesnt take people on, he is just a finisher who doesnt score that many goals.

If we are buying a Bournemouth forward then Josh King is the far far better player

I think your getting wound up over silly stuff. Southgate, Twitter and media?? Nothing you can alter at least and all bollox.

Jack's in the squad now. People need to chill and let things play out.

You've got 9 months coming up of getting wound up over all sorts of shit lol.

Not getting wound up about it at all, just think the way it played out and how Maitland-Niles got selected first as the replacement for Rashford is very telling that Jack is there just to make up the numbers.

If people think Southgate will be playing him now just because he is finally in the England squad and doesnt matter how he got there aren't seeing the bigger picture.

Once everyone in the England set up is fully fit I dont expect Jack to be in the next squad because he wasn't originally selected for this one (until a 3rd change was required) , I am not expecting Southgate to give him any minutes during these 2 games. (unless a few more pull out for whatever reason)

I don't think it really matters who he is replacing. It's all smokescreens and mirrors anyway..

The main thing is he is in the squad and if he gets game time it will be a very proud moment for everyone Aston Villa. One of our own, in the biological sense.

The reason why I think it matters is because its very telling, Southgate kept going on about how he sees Grealish in a position where he is blessed with quality players. He said Rashford was one of these. So when he pulled out Southgate still did everything he could by not calling Grealish up.

There was a lot of Twitter chat and confusion as to why Maitland-Niles was called up instead of Jack because Southgate had previously stated Rashford as one of Jacks direct reasons for not being included.

But now it annoys me how the media are still favouring Southgate here by stating Jack has been called up to replace Rashford

  13. I don't get the stock argument at all, these things cost about £3 to make, and they sell them for £50 aprox

So what if they have loads left over at the end of the season, better to have enough to meet the demand than have excess stock which can be sold in a sale or gifted to growing nations
