I think the we could easily spend £10m between now and the end of the transfer window In Villa terms that is certainly a significant spend, it would be the most we have ever spent in a summer I believe. It is furthermore pretty much what i thought we'd spend this summer.

I think that as everton are demonstrating, and Wigan, and West ham, it is one thing to have money to spend, and another altogether to find players to spend it on. For what its worth I believe that we have money to spend, but have been, as of the time of writing, unable to spend it. The club retains its policy of not paying more than they think a player is worth, and it is also the case that we are not that attractive a proposition. For me this would be the key thing about acquiring Baros. Regardless of your opinion of him as a player, he is a major name in world football, and a national hero in his homeland, arguably the biggest name we have signed since Merson. yes, I know Angel was a superstar in South America, but no-one in europe really knew who he was. Being able to attract such a player as Baros would, to my mind, be a major step forward in the club's image, and if the figure of around £6m is to be believed would also represent pretty much what i expected in terms of spending this summer. so happy? Yes, i think so, based off low expectations to begin with.

As both of the above are subjective, it is difficult to answer. I am optimistic that villa can achieve a top ten finish I am pessimistic about our chances of winning the double. How should I answer?

I believe that there is absolutely no doubt in his mind that Villa would be a good move for him and I have no doubt that Aston Villa can afford his wages and consider them reasonable. I think that of all his current options Aston Villa is the most attractive. I also believe that the manager of Aston Villa is *very* keen on this deal going through very quickly, and was hoping it would have been done so the player could play against Wolves. I also believe that Aston Villa could afford the deal, should they so wish. So once again, do Aston Villa (perhaps more accurately the board thereof), want to sign Milan Baros enough? We will see.

AS I said in another thread, for me Vassell is a player who represents that Villa that we have all seen and are all familiar with, that Villa where its Ok to lose every so often, where its OK to be nearly good enough but not quite. O'Leary's quotes are quite a strong indication that he sees it the same way. He is stale O'Leary says. He is complacent is the implication and I have to totally agree with the manager. We have no chance of moving on if the culture of complacency which has been allowed to filter to the dressing room from the boardroom isnt rooted out. We need to get rid of the players in the comfort zone like Vassell and a few others and bring in players who are hungry and will not stand for second best. Players who hate losing. Players used to winning and being successful. Players with big egos and personalities. Players like Baros.

To be entirely fair, unless JPA scores the goals to take us into Europe then it may be that he is kicked before he jumps.

I think that the squad looks alot more solid than it did 12 months ago. We havent yet added the quality to take us far into the top six. As things stand today I would say 7th or 8th, given an average run with injuries. If we can bring in a couple of more players then 5th-8th.
